Germany - Switzerland - Austria - Lake Constance Bicycle Tour 2019 Individual Self-Guided 7 days/ 6 nights This classic tour takes you round the entire lake showing you all its highlights along the way and the historic towns of Constance, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Lindau as well as the festival town of Bregenz.
Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance / Kreuzlingen Take the opportunity to visit the island of Mainau, wander through Constance s old town or visit the aquariums in the Sea Life Center and go to the Archaeological Museum. Day 2: Constance Stein a. Rh. / Gailingen 45-55 km First, you cycle along the Gnadensee to the former Imperial town of Radolfzell, now a spa resort. Continue through beautiful countryside along the Höri peninsula to the Swiss town of Stein am Rhein with its many frescoed houses. Depending on where you are staying the night, you cross the border again for Gailingen. Day 3: Stein a. Rh. Überlingen 45-55 km + boat trip Today you will be cycling along the side of lake, through small Swiss fishing villages. Via Constance your route takes you on to Wallhausen where a boat then takes you to the old Imperial town of Überlingen. Visit the gothic church and go for a walk along the popular lakeside promenade. Day 4: Überlingen Wasserburg / Lindau 60 km (Category A) or Überlingen Kressbronn / Nonnenhorn 50 km (Category B) From Überlingen you cycle through vineyards to Friedrichshafen. On the way you will pass the Baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau. In Meersburg, take a break to wander around the old town and its castle. In Friedrichshafen we can recommend a visit to the Zeppelin museum. You continue on through extensive orchards to today's destination of Kressbronn. Day 5: Lindau Arbon 50 km (Category A) or Kressbronn Höchst / Rorschach 40-50 km (Category B) On your way today, you soon reach Bregenz, the capital of the Vorarlberg region of Austria and famous for its annual festival on the largest lake-stage in the world. You finally reach Höchst where you soon cross the border again and then, after pedaling onwards for a few kilometres, reach Rorschach or Arbon. Day 6: Arbon Constance 35 km (Category A) or Höchst Constance 60 km (Category B) The last day of your tour takes you through Romanshorn which is home to Switzerland's largest harbour on Lake Constance. Now you continue on along the banks of Lake Constance back to Constance. Let your tour come to a pleasant end with a wander through the old town or an ice cream down at the harbour. Day 7: Individual departure or extension of stay After breakfast, you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.
Route Technical Characteristics: Route Profile: Relatively Easy. The first three sections are slightly hilly and otherwise level, following separate paved cycle paths close to the lake. The path sometimes follows brief sections that are unpaved and around Friedrichshafen the cycle path is alongside the main road. The banks of the lake are widely accessible to the public.
