Pitcher Amanda Dennis pitched her 7th complete game victory and 10 th complete game overall, striking out 3 in 5 innings while walking just 1.

On 9/16/11, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds lost 10-4 to an excellent Lassiter JV Trojan team. Trailing 8-1 in the 5 th inning, Pope didn t quit, coming back to 8-4 with the tying run on deck with 1 out. The next 8 Pope batters all hit the ball hard, but Lassiter s defense made all the plays to complete the 7 inning victory. Pitcher Amanda Dennis pitched the complete game, striking out 2 and walking only 1 in 7 innings. Amanda finished 8-5 on the season with 11 complete games. Shortstop Shawna Finister made the defensive play of the game, starting a 6-3 putout on a tough backhand chance in the 4 th inning with the score still just 4-1. The JV Lady Greyhounds finished the season with an overall record of 9-6. The team was 8-3 in its regularly scheduled games, and 1-3 in tournament play. On 9/15/11, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (9-5) played its final road game of the season at East Paulding High School. Leading 7-0 after 2 and a half innings, Pope staved off a Raider comeback to win by a final score of 8-6. Shawna Finister led the offense with 2 doubles and 4 RBI s. Pitcher Amanda Dennis pitched her 7th complete game victory and 10 th complete game overall, striking out 3 in 5 innings while walking just 1. With the lead only at 2 runs in the 4 th and 5 th innings, the defense produced some highlights. On a single to center with 2 out in the 4 th, Lauren Palace fired a strike to catcher Haley Roberson to nail the runner attempting to score from 2 nd to end the inning. In the 5 th inning and trailing by 2, the Raiders had runners at 2 nd and 3 rd with no out. On a grounder to 3 rd, Temaya Turner threw home to Roberson for the first out, leaving runners at the corners. The next batter scorched a low line drive toward right that 2 nd baseman Lauren Jones snared and then tagged the runner for her 2 nd unassisted double play of the season, ending the game in exciting fashion. On 9/16/11, playing for the 4 th straight day, the team will wrap up its season versus the Lassiter JV Trojans at Pope. The Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (8-5) coasted to a 12-0 win over the home-team Kell JV Longhorns on 9/14/11. Haley Roberson and Alana Tinsley both reached base safely in each of their 3 plate appearances, and both had 2 base hits, as did Megan Metzinger. Pitcher Amanda Dennis pitched her 6th complete game victory, striking out 6 in 4 innings including striking out the side in the 1 st. To date this season, Amanda s record is 7-4 with 9 complete games. Centerfielder Lauren Palace s 4 th inning running catch in right center was the defensive play of the game.

On 9/15/11, the team plays for a 3 rd consecutive day, visiting the East Paulding Raiders. Pope registered a 5-2 victory in their previous matchup. On 9/13/2011, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (7-5) continued to scuffle in the 2 nd half of their season, falling at home to the Hiram Hornets by a score of 7-2. Pope started well, taking a 2-0 lead in the 1 st inning on 2-out hits: Megan Metzinger s double, Temaya Turner s triple, and Hayley Roberson s single. But that was it for the game, as the team proceeded to make some untimely errors in the field, and was unable to produce the timely hits needed when runners were on base. Amanda Dennis took the loss while pitching her 8 th complete game of the season, striking out 5 in 4 innings. The defensive play of the game came in the 1 st inning, a 2-6 (Roberson-Finister) putout on the Hornet s leadoff batter attempting to steal second. The JV Lady Hounds have an immediate chance to get back in the win column, travelling to Kell on 9/14/2011 to play the Longhorns. Pope topped Kell 9-3 in their first meeting. On 9/9/11 and 9/10/11, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (7-4) competed in the Kennesaw Mountain HS / North Cobb HS JV tournament. On Friday, the team opened with a 2-1 win over the Allatoona Buccaneers. It was a well played game, with Pope scoring 2 times in the bottom of the 6 th inning to finish off an exciting victory. The tables got turned on Pope in the second game on Friday. The Collins Hill Eagles scored 6 runs in their final at bat to win 8-4. On Saturday the JV Lady Hounds were flat, losing to host team Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs and to the Etowah Eagles by scores of 7-3 and 13-0, respectively. The offensive leaders for the tournament were Amanda Dennis (6 base hits), Temaya Turner (4 base hits and 4 stolen bases), Shawna Finister (4 base hits and a stolen base), and Hayley Roberson (3 base hits and 3 RBI s). Amanda Dennis pitched 2 more complete games, one of them a victory. Lauren Palace made her Pope JV pitching debut, pitching 5 innings while yielding only 3 walks. The defensive plays of the game: In game 1, third baseman Temaya Turner made a 5-3 putout on a rocket while keeping the runner at third from scoring. In game 2, rightfielder Lauren Jones made 2 running, tumbling catches on dying quails in front of her. In game 3, a 2-6 putout (Roberson- Finister) on an attempted double steal in the first inning allowed for a scoreless inning. In game 4, shortstop Shawna Finister made a spectacular diving backhand snare of a low line drive. On 9/14/11, the team looks to get back on track at home versus the Hiram Hornets. Pope topped the Hornets 11-8 in their previous meeting at Hiram.

On 9/8/2011, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (6-1) suffered their first defeat of the season, losing on the road to the North Paulding Wolfpack. After 2 innings the score was 3-3. North Paulding scored 6 times in the 3 rd on some solid hitting coupled with some shaky defense. Down 11-3 after 4 innings, Pope did not give up, scoring 4 in the 5 th to close to 11-7. That turned out to be the final score when Pope failed to score in the 6 th inning. Amanda Dennis pitched her 5 th complete game of the season, striking out 4 in 5 innings. The offense was lead by Amanda, Megan Metzinger, and Temaya Turner, each with 2 base hits. Alana Tinsley had 3 RBI s. The defensive play of the game was a 6-3 putout from the shortstop hole by Shawna Finsiter in the bottom of the 5 th inning. The play helped Pope stay within 4 runs going into its final at bat. The JV Lady Hounds will be right back at it, playing in the Kennesaw Mountain HS / North Cobb HS JV tournament on 9/9/11 and 9/10/11. On 8/31/2011, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (6-0) visited the beautiful Blessed Trinity campus to play the Titans. Pope overcame a very slow start, eventually prevailing by a final score of 14-6. In the first three innings, Blessed Trinity out-performed Pope on all fronts pitching, fielding, hitting, and base running, and the Lady Hounds found themselves trailing 6-0. The game turned in the fourth inning, which started with backto-back triples by Lauren Palace and Megan Metzinger. Next up was Hayley Roberson, and her grounder to short was a key play in the game. The shortstop chose to throw home, but a hustling Metzinger slid under the tag to make the score 6-2. This helped prolong the inning, which eventually culminated with a two-out, bases loaded triple by Shawna Finister to tie the game 6-6. When the Titans failed to score in the bottom of the fourth inning, Pope s hitting momentum carried into the fifth inning, in which the Lady Hounds scored eight more runs on eight hits, including Hayley Roberson s team-leading third hit of the game. Devyn Smith pitched the first three innings, and was followed by Amanda Dennis, who pitched scoreless ball in the fourth and fifth to pick up her fifth win of the season. Amanda struck out three batters in the two innings, including a called strike three on her classic changeup to end the game. Devyn turned in the defensive play of the game in the first inning. With runners on second and third and one out, Devyn knocked down a hard line drive right at her and threw the batter out at first, with no run scoring on the play. This helped Pope escape the inning down only 3-0 when it could have been far worse. The team has won its first six games of the season, and now enters its mid-season break. The next game is at North Paulding on 9/8/2011. Pope beat the Wolfpack 8-1 at Pope in the season s first game on 8/16/2011. Playing at Sprayberry High School on 8/30/2011, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (5-0) scored a 6-2 victory over the Sprayberry JV Yellow Jackets. The Pope offense scored five times in the first two innings. That proved to be enough as the pitching and defense

controlled the game. Amanda Dennis pitched her fourth complete game victory, striking out two in six innings while allowing seven hits and four walks. With the Yellow Jackets keeping the ball in play, it was up to the defense, which rose to the occasion. Second baseman Lauren Jones had an outstanding game, recording four assists and four putouts, including an unassisted double play in the final inning. In midgame, Temaya Turner made her Pope JV Lady Greyhound catching debut, and nailed a runner attempting to steal second in the fifth inning. The 2-6 (Turner-Metzinger) putout was the defensive play of the game. The offense was once again a team effort, with eight players contributing either a run or an RBI. The JV Lady Hounds will be at it again right away, travelling to Blessed Trinity on 8/31/2011 to take on the Titans At Kell High School on 8/25/11, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (4-0) beat the Kell JV Longhorns by a final score of 9-3. For the second straight game, the Pope offense managed only four base hits, but the usually aggressive Pope batters made necessary adjustments to wait out eight walks. Creating runs was a team effort -- nine players either scored or drove in a run. For the second time in as many road games, Shawna Finister led off the game with an extra base hit, a long double to the left field fence. Pitcher Amanda Dennis earned her third complete game victory in as many starts, striking out five in five innings. Once again she used her changeup very effectively. Down 7-1 with one out in the fourth inning, the Longhorns plated two more on a single to right field. On the hit, Pope caught the batter attempting to take second on the throw home, squelching the rally. The 9-2-6 (Smith-Roberson-Finister) putout was the defensive play of the game. The next game for the JV Lady Hounds is versus the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets at Sprayberry on 8/30/2011. Playing at home on 8/23/11, the Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (3-0) topped the East Paulding Raiders by a score of 5-2. The offense made the most of its four hits. Pope went ahead 2-0 in the first inning. The lone hit of the inning was Lauren Palace s triple to right center, her first of two hits in the game. In the third inning, Pope scored three times to go up 5-1. Alana Tinsley produced the key hit of the inning. With one out, the bases loaded, and a full count, she came through with a hard line single up the middle, driving in two. Devyn Smith made her Pope JV pitching debut. She started in fine fashion, striking out the game s first batter. She finished with a complete game victory, recording three

strikeouts in four innings. She did not issue a walk until the third inning, and that base runner was immediately caught stealing second base on a perfect throw from Hayley Roberson. Using two more walks, the Raiders loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning, and a tiring Devyn went to a 3-1 count on the batter. The freshman pitcher fought back with strikes, inducing a flyout to centerfield in what turned out to be the game s final play via an 8-6-2-5 (Palace-Metzinger-Roberson-Finister) double play. The JV Lady Hounds will travel to Kell on 8/25/2011 to take on the Longhorns. The Pope JV Lady Greyhounds (2-0) prevailed 11-8 over the Hiram Hornets in Hiram on 8/18/2011. It was a see-saw battle, with the lead changing hands five times in the first three and a half innings. Shawna Finister set the tone with a game lead-off triple to the right-center field gap, her first of a team leading three hits. The entire lineup went up swinging and consistently put the ball in play. Pope sent 30 batters to the plate, drew only one walk, and did not have a single strikeout. Seven different players had at least two hits and/or two RBI s. Five runs in the fourth inning gave Pope a lead they did not relinquish. Amanda Dennis pitched her second consecutive complete game win, toughing it through a game without her best control. In five innings she issued five walks and hit a batter, but battled enough to strike out six, and ultimately held the Hornets to just one run in the final two innings with the game still up for grabs. Megan Metzinger produced the defensive play of the game on the game s final play, a beautiful 6-3 putout on a tough backhand chance in the shortstop hole. Next for the JV Lady Hounds are the East Paulding Raiders on 8/23/2011 at Pope. The JV Lady Greyhounds opened their season on 8/16/11 with an 8-1 victory over the North Paulding Wolfpack. The Lady Hounds started slowly, yielding an unearned run in the top of the first inning, then going down quietly 1-2-3 in the bottom half. Alana Tinsley smacked the only hit in the second inning, but it was the catalyst for a 2-run inning and a 2-1 lead. The offense produced 6 runs in the third inning by consistently putting the ball in play. The inning included singles from Devyn Smith and Amanda Dennis, well-executed sacrifice bunts from Shawna Finister and Lauren Palace, and RBI groundouts from Megan Metzinger and Maddie Johnson. Amanda Dennis pitched a complete game, striking out five in five innings. She had two called third strikes via her changeup, which was used very effectively. She also struck out the final two batters of the first inning, stranding runners at first and third. Amanda was also the only Greyhound batter with two hits. Catcher Hayley Roberson displayed excellent defense throughout the game, including starting and finishing the defensive play of the game. In the top of the first with no outs

and runners at the corners, Hayley and Megan Metzinger perfectly executed a 2-6-2 putout on an attempted double steal. With a 1-0 record, the JV Lady Hounds travel to Hiram High School on 8/18/11 to take on the Hornets.
