Boone County Sportsmen's Club Spring Newsletter / April - 2018 Welcome to the start of another shooting season. Please take time to review the 2014 Rule Book and refer to it for placement of targets! Remember to remove all targets and dispose of properly before leaving. A good habit is to leave the range in better shape than when you came. Please do not move the benches! They are not designed to be moved or used for shooting prone. Safety is our number one priority! No bullets or ricochets should leave our property! Be sure of your target, and the background behind it. Make sure all shots go into the earthen berms. Targets placed out too far in front of the berms can cause ricochets that go over the berms. Every shooter needs to make sure the other shooters are aware before going down range to check, place, or remove targets. Spring Clean-up Day, will be Sunday, May 20th, starting at 8:00 AM and going until we are done. (usually around 11:00 AM). All shooting Ranges will be closed until cleanup is done! This is a general clean up, fix up, spruce up event. If you can help, please stop out, even if it's only for an hour or two. Rolls and beverages furnished to all workers Shooting Hours remain unchanged from previous years. 8:00 am - 9:30 pm. No after dark shooting except trap and skeet under the lights in the fall. NO OTHER EXCEPTIONS!! (Unless pre-approved by the board). Calendar of Events: May 1 st : our regularly scheduled Trap & Skeet will Start and will run through October. Hours will be 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays. There will be pop and water available. May 19: Clean-up day 8:00 AM - Until Done (Rain or Shine) Aug. 24, 25, &26 th : Gun Show @ Boone County Fairgrounds. (Help Needed) 4th Saturday of every month / "Defensive Pistol Match" (9:00 am starting time during daylight savings time). Range Closings: Tuesdays: All North Ranges (rifle & pistol) will be closed at 5:00 PM, May through September. Thursdays: All North Ranges (rifle & pistol) will be closed at 5:00 pm, May through October.

4th Saturday of each Month: All Ranges closed, for handgun matches, from 8:00 AM until done. Other Closings: Closings that come in, between newsletters, are posted on the website as we get them. Please check it often and before driving any distance to our range. (www.boonesportsmensclub.com) Club Meetings: Club meetings are held 6:00 pm on the second Monday of each month, March thru November (Saint s Avenue Cafe). All members are invited to attend. Trap and Skeet: Mark needs help running Thursday Night Skeet!! If this is something you might be interested in, please contact Mark (212-0125), or any officer. Trap and Skeet shooting will be held on Tuesday and Thursday starting in May. Start time - 5:00 pm, and last round started no later than 9:00 pm, to be completed by 9:30 pm. Steve Gus (432-7772) and Rick Howell (230-0641) will run Tuesday evenings events & Mark Hasstedt (212-0125) and Someone will run Thursday evenings events. Prices will be the same as last year. Below is a breakdown of the cost for each type of game, per 25 target rounds. Type of Game Member Price Per Round If you plan to come out closer to closing, you may want to call one of the people running the shoot. If it's a slow night, they may close early, after all, they are volunteering their time. Archery Range: Members are encouraged to use this range as long as they do so within the guidelines of the club rules. Shooting towards the neighbor s property to the south will not be tolerated & will result in revocation of your membership. Also, please remember that the tower is not a play area for kids! Bench Shooting: We are still having a problem with shooters placing clay birds on the backstops. This needs to be stopped! You're blowing away the frame work of the backstop. If anyone sees someone doing this, please write down a license number, time, and date and give it to an officer. We will handle it from there. If you're using something other than paper targets that can't be pinned or taped to the backstop, place the target at the very base of the berm to the north or south of the backstop. (which ever gives you the most berm to shoot into). Gun Show: August 24, 25 & 26 Non-member Price Per Round Standard Skeet $ 3.50 $ 5.00 Standard or Wobble Trap $ 3.50 $ 5.00 Wobble Skeet (Thursdays Only) $ 3.50 $ 5.00 Modified 5 Stand (Tuesdays Only) $ 5.00 $ 6.50

We need help for this year s gun show!!! We still need volunteers to help with this year s gun show. We need people for the following categories: Set up: Friday, Aug. 24th, 7:30 AM until approximately 9:00 AM. Working the Gun Show: Approximately four-hour shifts. Security: Three hour shifts from 9:00 PM Friday to 7:00 AM Saturday 5:00 PM Saturday to 7:00 AM Sunday Tear Down: Sunday Aug. 26 th, 3:00 PM - approximately 6:30 PM. * Helping with set up, sign up for tear down, or work a four-hour shift during the show, or a three-hour shift on security will get you into the gun show for free all weekend. Interested members please call Duane Ely 432-8413 or Mark Hasstedt 212-0125 to get on our call list. You can also email Duane at "boonesportsmensclub@q.com. Memberships: You must have a 2018 Membership Card to use our facilities. Memberships for 2018 are : (NRA Member $50.00 / Non-NRA Member $70.00) For the benefit of new members that do not know; the reason for the different membership costs is that we are insured through the NRA. They give us a break on the cost of our insurance based upon the number of our members who are also NRA members. The larger the percentage of our members that are NRA members the cheaper our insurance is. We gladly pass the savings along to those who help us keep the cost lower. You must provide a CURRENT NRA membership number in order to qualify for the reduced annual dues. No Exceptions! You can become a member of the NRA by going to http:// membership.nrahq.org/ If you do not belong to the NRA, I urge you to join. Sure, there are things I don't like about them, including all their mailings, but they are the main fighting source helping to keep the 2nd amendment intact and you and your guns together. Here's something to think about. If you buy an annual membership at the Des Moines Gun Show, it costs $30. You get into the Gun Show free, saving $7. You save $20 on your membership to the Boone County Sportsmen's Club. Add it up, it only cost you $3 to join the NRA and keep them fighting for your 2nd amendment rights. Kind of knocks the wind out of the old "I can't afford to join the NRA, doesn't it? There is a blank 2018 application on the last page of this news letter. If you use it, pick up one at the gate, or download one from the website to fill out by hand, Please, print legibly, and / or attach a return address label. And please pay attention to the mandatory fields. The form on the website is interactive, you can fill it out before you print it, but you still must sign it and make sure it's dated. If you check the NRA box, you must provide your NRA number. No Exceptions! NRA numbers are not kept on file by BCSC from one year to the next. They are for NRA when we get audited. Ways to obtain a membership: 1. Fill out the attached application, sign & date it, and mail it with the appropriate fees to the

address on the form. 2. Catch an officer at the club, or on a Tuesday or Thursday trap & skeet night. They can give you a temporary membership, good until you receive your card in the mail. 3. Get an application from the clear plastic box at the gate, fill it out, sign & date it, and mail it with the appropriate fees to the address on the form. 4. If one of the above won't work for you, Steve Gus has agreed to take applications and issue temporary memberships at "Bacon Jewelers in downtown Boone, where he works, but you may have to be patient and wait for him to finish up with customers first. You should have your application completed, and have your check made out or the correct cash if using this option. Steve shouldn't have to use his boss' money to make change! Remember: Steve will only accept applications that are typed or have a mailing address label attached. Since he's at work, it's hard for him to take the time to review each box on the application and we are getting way too many that have to be called or re-contacted to get the spelling or other information correct. Also, as usual any paid up club members have the right to ask anyone on club property to show their membership card. (Be sure to check that it is for the current year). Our club is for paid up members only!
