The Meeting December 21 st 2004 January 2005 This is the last newsletter. Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 18 th at 7:30 The Changing of the Guards? Actually, no but after the January 18 th meeting- The GATE COMBINATION will Change New Members- six new people were voted in by the membership. Additionally, there were seven New Applicants for membership. Currently we have 530 members in our organization. ELECTIONS! It is VERY important for all members to attend the January meeting on the 18 th! ALL OFFICER positions- will be up for election at the meeting. Two-year terms include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Officer, Indoor Range Officer, Outdoor Range Officer, Chief Instructor and also the Newsletter Assembler and Membership Clerk. Additionally, three of the six BOARD member positions will be open- two for full 3-year terms and one for a partial 2-year term. In the December meeting, the following persons were nominated for these positions: 1. President No nominations 2. Vice-President No nominations 3. Secretary No nominations 4. Treasurer Don Varenhorst 5. Executive Officer Wayland Moore 6. Indoor Range Officer Charles Phelan 7. Outdoor Range Officer Bond Kinney 8. Chief Instructor No nominations For the Board of Directors- John Curran, Matt Gusdorf, Jim Liapus, Billy Stallcup, and Bill Thompson

Can you imagine a ship at sea without a captain, the first mate, or missing a lot of the crew? Does the number of positions where no members have shown an interest, concern you? If the SJWF was a ship at sea, and you were a passenger, would you want someone with appropriate skills to step forward and keep it off of the coral reefs, and guide it to a wonderful destination? PLEASE think about this and either step forward if you can or approach someone who you think could do a good job- and encourage him or her to rise to the challenge! All positions will still be open for nominations on the 18 th, before the ballot voting begins. GUN SHOW UPDATE- already there is only about 30 tables left of the original 86! More people are still required to help make the show a success- please sign up to assist for a half-day or more if you can. Each year the show brings in a lot of much needed cash for the Federation! Please contribute some of your time to help it be a success. TRAP LEAGUE Shooting- Dave Brooks says that the range may shut down for two weeks or so when the trap houses will be getting new concrete roofs. Also remember that a skeet range is also in the works! OFFICIAL SJWF caps and sweatshirts are available for sale! You can contact Don Varenhorst to get yours. Let others know where you belong! THE NEW RANGE SCHEDULE- will be coming out real soon. New matches to be offered next year will include Cowboy Long Range Rifle and a Production Gun Varmint Rifle match- no need for a fancy, expensive bench rest rifle! To be held again: BULLSEYE.22 Pistol Indoors, any sights, will continue to be 7 PM on Thursday nights;.22 Rifle Indoor Silhouette continues on Tuesday nights. A 40-round course of fire, twice over;.22 Hunter Pistol, on Wednesday nights also 40-rounds, twice over.

Please be advised, that if you want to hold an event at the range, you must contact the Executive Officer to schedule your event or risk getting shutout by an already registered event. INSTRUCTORS CLASS for HUNTER EDUCATION- building support for future generations to safely enjoy a great sport! Billy Stalcup is trying to schedule a class to certify/train new instructors for teaching the class to our young shooters. Please contact him if you are interested @ 326-6397. Elections! All Officer positions will be up for elections at the January meeting. These are two-year terms. They include; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Officer, Indoor Range Officer, Outdoor Range Officer and Chief Instructor. Additionally, three of the six Board member positions well be open. Two full terms of three years each will be open and one partial term of two years needs to be filled. The Federation can not exist without members stepping forward to meet the challenge. Please consider running for a position that suits your interests and abilities. Gun Show Signup To help make the show a success, we will need around forty members to signup for volunteer service. If you can possibly help out, please contact Billy Stalcup at 326-6397. You do not have to sign up for a full day, as smaller blocks of time would be a big help! ANNOUNCEMENTS This is the last newsletter you will receive till someone else steps up to do it. I do not have the time to commit to the newsletter anymore. I would gladly stay on the board if I didn t have to do the newsletter too. But it doesn t seem fair. I am now the Department Head for Spinning and Weaving for the San Juan County Fair and will also be taking on official duties for the Wool Festival of the Southwest. Also my spinning and weaving business has taken off to a point where I need to be spinning and weaving more. From the Outdoor Range Officer The range will be closed for maintenance January 20th. Since this is the last newsletter till who knows when, remember the range will be closed the Thursday after every general meeting. Range Rules The mesa top pistol ranges are for paper targets only. We don t want any metal targets, or target stands. In the past there were wheel rim stands that were on loan from IPSC. These will be removed and wood or paper will be used instead. The range just west of the clubhouse is for straight walled cartridges ONLY.

We need volunteers for the February 4 6 Gun Show We are going to have our February gun show and need volunteers to sign up. This will be a three day show starting Friday evening and ending Sunday afternoon. This will give the vendors more time to sell and it s better for repeat customers too. Concealed Carry The Club is still offering classed for $150. You will need 200 rounds of factory ammunition and you must have a strong side holster. Classes will be scheduled for two night sessions 6:30 10:00 and all day either Saturday or Sunday. For further information on dates and times, call Mike Freestone at 325-5355 evenings. Texan to recognize New Mexico s Concealed Carry permits Just before the New Year, Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) issued a proclamation announcing that Texas will recognize New Mexico carry permits. New Mexico currently has no reciprocal provision in its carry law, so Texas CHLs are not currently valid in this state. However, legislation is expected to be considered in the 2005 session of the New Mexico Legislature that could authorize the NM Department of Public Safety to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states, including Texas.
