ON THE BUMP: RHP Jordan Lyles is making his second start of the season tonight...he made his Pirates debut last Thursday BUCS WHEN... against the Reds at PNC Park and pitched 5.0 scoreless frames...lyles, who was signed as a free agent on 12/17, posted a Last five games... 4-1 2.57 ERA (28.0ip/8er) in his final 15 appearances in 2018, 14 of which came in relief. ONE OF THE BEST: Since 2011 the Pirates have produced the fourth-best record in the National League (671-632;.515), trailing only the Dodgers (741-566,.567), Cardinals (728-579,.557) and Nationals (722-583,.553). WANNA BE STARTING SOMETHING: After the first nine games, the Bucco starting pitchers have produced a 1.98 ERA (50.0ip/11er); the lowest ERA among all National League starting staffs and the second-lowest in the Majors behind Tampa Bay (1.77)...The staff enters today s action having surrendered seven earned runs in its last 44.0 innings of work (1.43 ERA). BUCS/CUBS: The Pirates and Cubs are scheduled to meet tonight for the second of 19 times this season...after Thursday s game, however, the clubs aren t scheduled to meet again until July 1 at PNC Park...The Bucs posted a 9-10 record against the Cubs last season, going 5-5 at Wrigley Field while hitting 14 home runs in the 10 games. REHABBING BUCS: Outfielder Gregory Polanco (left shoulder surgery on 9/12) and RHP Dovydas Neverauskas (left oblique strain) began rehab assignments with High-A Bradenton on Sunday...Polanco has gone 1-for-7 with two walks and an RBI in two games...neverauskas struck out one batter in a scoreless inning of relief on Sunday...Catcher Elias Díaz (virus) went 2-for-4 with a double last night with Triple-A Indianapolis after beginning his rehab stint with Bradenton on Friday and going 2-for-5 with two RBI and two walks in two games with the Marauders.
