FOSSUM/SPARTAN INVITATIONAL The Indiana University men s golf team will travel to the Fossum/Spartan Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 22-23, in East Lansing, Mich. The event will be hosted by Michigan State and played at the Forest Akers West Golf Course. The course is set up as a par 72 with a yardage of 7,013. The event consists of three rounds, 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Ten teams will join No. 51 Indiana and No. 60 Michigan State in this loaded field, including Big Ten rivals No. 29 Northwestern, No. 33 Minnesota, No. 56 Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Additionally, No. 38 Xavier, No. 48 Denver, Ball State and Toledo will participate in the event. Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun first-round start at 9 a.m. EDT. The second 18 opens with a shotgun start following the completion of round one. On Sunday, the final round commences with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. This is the 39th year of the event, and the Hoosiers captured the team title in 2004. Last season, IU claimed sixth as former Hoosier and current PGA Tour member Jeff Overton earned medalist honors for the second straight year, sharing the title with Minnesota s Ben Greve. IU also won the championship in 1969. PARTICIPATING HOOSIERS Indiana will send the same team it fielded last time out at the Kepler Intercollegiate (April 15-16). Jorge Campillo (No. 1), Drew Allenspach (No. 3) and Seth Brandon (No. 4) make up the freshman contingent. Sophomore Santiago Quirarte will play in the second position, while senior Brad Marek will participate in the five spot. Campillo (72.21 avg.), Allenspach (73.76) and Quirarte (73.97) have played in all 10 of the Hoosiers events this season and own the top-three averages on the team, respectively. Brandon (74.43) has seen action in eight tournaments, while Marek (77.22) will make his fourth appearance. TOURNAMENT RESULTS Complete tournament results will be made available on the web at IUHOOSIERS.com following each round. Additionally, there will be live scoring for the final round available through www.golfstat.com. For more information, contact Jeff Keag at (812) 855-6209 or via e-mail at jkeag@indiana.edu. TOURNAMENT NOTES LAST TIME OUT Freshman Seth Brandon shared medalist honors as the Indiana men's golf team claimed second place at the 15-team Kepler Intercollegiate on April 15-16. IU shot a final-round 304 for an 882 total (286-292-304), four shots short of the champion Northwestern Wildcats (298-284-296). Despite IU shooting the third-lowest round in the field, NU answered with the only sub-300 round. The Hoosiers also placed second amongst the nine Big Ten teams in the field and finished 21 strokes ahead of third-place Xavier. Brandon and Northwestern standout Kyle Moore (68-73-74) entered the final round even and remained that way after the final 18 holes. However, Moore won the playoff between the two with a par on the second hole. Brandon closed with a final-round 74 and ended the tournament at 215, a new career low and garnered the best finish of his career. 2005-06 INDIANA MEN S GOLF SCHEDULE SEPTEMBER 12-13 NCAA Central Regional Preview 11th/17 teams 17-18 Gopher Invitational 6th/12 24-25 Wolverine Intercollegiate 8th/15 OCTOBER 3-4 Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge 11th/14 10-11 Xavier Invitational T5th/19 FEBRUARY 19-20 Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic 2nd/11 MARCH 4-5 Orange County National Invitational 8th/15 19-21 Pinehurst Intercollegiate 3rd/17 APRIL 8-9 Boilermaker Invitational 1st/12 15-16 Kepler Intercollegiate 2nd/15 22-23 Fossum/Spartan Invitational East Lansing, Mich. 28-30 Big Ten Championships Chicago, Ill. CAMPILLO ROLLS TO VICTORY Freshman Jorge Campillo joined exclusive company at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9). The Caceres, Spain native collected his first career title by eight strokes to become the first Hoosier to win a tournament since Jeff Overton claimed medalist honors at the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8). What is even more impressive is he became the first true freshman to win an event since current assistant coach Josh Brewer was victorious at the 1995 Legends Intercollegiate. BRANDON SHARES FIRST On the heels of freshman Jorge Campillo s victory at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9), freshman Seth Brandon shared INDIANA MEDIA RELATIONS JEFF KEAG MEN S GOLF CONTACT PHONE: 812-855-6209 FAX: 812-855-9401 E-MAIL: JKEAG@INDIANA.EDU HOOSIERS ON THE WEB: IUHOOSIERS.COM

Fossum/Spartan Invitational (April 22-23) - 2 medalist honors the following weekend at the Kepler Intercollegiate (April 15-16). Brandon tied Northwestern s Kyle Moore but dropped the second playoff hole. Despite losing out on sole possession of the title in the playoff, it goes down as a share of first place for Brandon. The Dalton, Ga., native joins Campillo and current Hoosier assistant coach Josh Brewer as the only true freshmen to claim first place in the program s history. FRESHMAN RECORD IN JEOPARDY With a championship and a tie for third in his last two outings, freshman Jorge Campillo owns a team-best 72.21 scoring average in 10 events. If Campillo keeps up his red-hot ball striking, he is on pace to shatter the school s all-time freshman scoring record. Former Hoosier All- American Jeff Overton owns the mark following a 74.45 (31 rounds) in 2002. If not for Campillo, freshmen Drew Allenspach and Seth Brandon would be battling to see who would set the new freshman mark. Allenspach is second on the team with a 73.76, while Brandon sits fourth at 74.43. FRESHMEN SIT IN SECOND Following its runner-up finish at the Kepler Intercollegiate (April 15-16), the Indiana men's golf freshman class remained second place in Golfstat's Freshman Class Impact Ranking. The Hoosiers (498.209) trail Mississippi State (515.565) and hold a huge lead over third-ranked South Carolina (399.036). The four freshmen that have seen action - Drew Allenspach, Seth Brandon, Jorge Campillo and Brandon Pike - have accounted for 31 of the 50 total spots in the lineup during the Hoosiers 10 events this year and hold a 73.71 average. 2005-06 INDIANA MEN S GOLF ROSTER NAME YR./ELG. CONSISTENT Along with Jorge Campillo, freshman Drew Allenspach exceeded expectations with some brilliant play in the fall. The Sugar Land, Texas product netted five straight top-30 places en route to posting a 73.47 average, the third-best mark on the team. He kept pace to open the spring with three top-25 finishes before breaking out with a tie for second at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9). He responded with a tie for 18th at the Kepler Intercollegiate (April 15-16), capturing his eighth top 25 in 10 events this year BACK IN THE WINNER S CIRCLE For the first time since the 2004 Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11-12), Indiana claimed a team championship. The Hoosiers took apart a loaded 12-team field at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9) at the Kampen Course (7,083 yards, par 72). IU finished the tournament at 882 (301-287- 294), finishing 14 shots better than second-place Purdue (310-288-298) and 18 strokes ahead of third-place Notre Dame (307-300-293). The win marked the seventh title for the Hoosiers in head coach Mike Mayer s eight-year tenure. CAMPILLO BIG TEN GOLFER X 3 For the third time this spring, freshman Jorge Campillo earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors after winning the individual title at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9). Campillo became the first Hoosier to collect the award three times in one season since current PGA Tour member Jeff Overton (2002-05) won the award five times during the 2003-04 campaign. The Caceres, Spain native claimed his second straight top-10 finish at the Orange County National Invitational on March 4-5 to net his second league accolade. Campillo closed the tournament with a 212 (70-68-74), just four shots behind the tri-medalists. In his first outing of the spring, Campillo led the Hoosiers to a second-place showing at the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic in Guadalajara, Mexico on Feb. 19-20 for his first Big Ten honor. MAREK MAKING HIS MARK In his first action since the fall campaign (Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, Oct. 3-4), senior Brad Marek came out blazing as the Hoosiers place second at the Kepler Intercollegiate (April 15-16). The Arlington Heights, Ill., native placed in a tie for 11th place, and the best finish of his career. Marek turned in a 224 total (72-74-78) to give Indiana three golfers in the top 11. YOUNG GUNS The Hoosiers boast a youthful squad in 2005-06. Only three seniors appear on a roster featuring five freshmen, two sophomores and three juniors. The freshman class has appeared in 62 percent of the lineup spots (31-of-50) in 10 events this season and 10 more starting spots went to sophomore Santiago Quirarte. QUIRARTE S HOMECOMING Sophomore Santiago Quirarte enjoyed a brilliant return to his home country after netting a share of fourth place at the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic (Feb. 19-20). The Queretaro product carded his third straight 71 to close at 3-under 213. Quirarte's finish was his first top five this season, the second of his career and matched his best career placing (fourth place at the 2005 Pioneer Classic). On the season, Quirarte is third on the team with a 73.97 average. AN INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR Beginning with David Butwell (Southampton, England) in 2003, Indiana has welcomed an influx of international talent to Bloomington. Santiago Quirarte (Queretaro, Mexico) joined the Hoosiers last season, and Spaniards Jorge Campillo (Caceres) and Eric Serch (Barcelona) came aboard this season. Quirarte and Campillo have played in every event this season and will lead the Hoosier contingent to the Fossum/Spartan Invitational this weekend. MARTIN SIGNS NLI Alex Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Indiana beginning in the fall semester of 2006. Martin, who is currently ranked the top junior golfer in Ohio by Junior Golf Scoreboard, led his team to consecutive third-place finishes at state and had the team ranked No. 1 in the city the entire 2005 season, which concluded in October. Fossum/Spartan Invitational (April 22-23) - 6 NCAA CENTRAL REGIONAL PREVIEW (SEPT. 12-13) CHARDON, Ohio - Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Jorge Campillo garnered a tie for 15th as the Indiana men's golf team finished in 11th place at the NCAA Central Regional Preview. Campillo finished with a 218 (75-71-72), and IU claimed an 894 (300-297-297) at the Sand Ridge Golf Club (par 71, 7,085 yards). Campillo started the final round in a tie for the 21st spot but made a move up the leaderboard with a 1-over-par 72 in the final round. His finish was the best for a freshman making his collegiate debut since Ryan Cassidy tied for sixth place at the 2000 Legends Intercollegiate. GOPHER INVITATIONAL (SEPT. 17-18) MINNEAPOLIS - Two Hoosiers netted top-20 finishes, and the Indiana men's golf team claimed sixth place in the 12-team field at the Gopher Invitational. IU staked a 902 (301-304-297) at the 54-hole tournament hosted by the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Spring Hill Golf Club (par 72, 7,020 yards). For the second straight week, IU freshman Jorge Campillo posted a top-15 finish. After tying for 15th at the season-opening NCAA Central Regional Preview (Sept. 12-13), Campillo tied for 14th in his second tournament as a Hoosier, closing with a 1-over 73 in the final round. The Caceres, Spain, native finished the tournament with a 221 (73-75-73). Joining Campillo in the top 20, sophomore Santiago Quirarte placed 19th. Quirarte ended the weekend at 222 (72-76-74). The finish was the first top 20 for Quirarte in two events this season and the fifth of his career. WOLVERINE INTERCOLLEGIATE (SEPT. 24-25) ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Wrapping up play at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, the Indiana men's golf team moved into eighth place in the 15-team field with a 1-over-par 285 on the final 18. Entering the final round in a tie for ninth, the Hoosiers finished the tournament at 862 (291-286-285) on the University of Michigan Golf Course (par 71, 6,704 yards). Despite shooting a final-round 77, Jorge Campillo garnered the top Hoosier finish, tying for 22nd at 215. Rounds of 70 and 68 on Sept. 24 helped the freshman corral his third straight top-25 finish. Following Campillo, freshman Drew Allenspach notched his third consecutive top-30 result, claiming a 73 on the final day. The Sugar Land, Texas native posted a 71 and 72 in rounds one and two, respectively, giving him a 216 total and a share of 26th place. BIG TEN/PAC-10 CHALLENGE (OCT. 3-4) CHICAGO - The Indiana men's golf team reached as high as fifth at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in the third and final round, but a tough backend at the Glen Club (par 72, 7,236) caused the Hoosiers (293-294-299-886) to slip to an 11th-place finish overall. Freshman Drew Allenspach (72-70-77-219) performed more like a veteran at the challenge, pacing the Hoosiers with a career-best 18th-place tie. The Challenge brought the top-seven programs from the Big Ten and the Pac-10 together with Allenspach showing why he will be a Hoosier to watch this season. Allenspach's top-20 finish was the ninth-best Big Ten individual finish in the highly-competitive field. Illinois (1), Minnesota (2), Northwestern (2), Ohio State (1) and Purdue (2) each had competitors finish amidst the top-15 in the individual standings. Allenspach held a 1-over for most of the day before a slip in the front nine dropped the Sugar Land, Texas native to 5-over for the round. The outing was his fourth top-30 performance in as many tries. BIG TEN/PAC-10 CHALLENGE (OCT. 3-4) LOVELAND, Ohio - Capping off its fall season at the Xavier Invitational, the Indiana men's golf team closed with a 1-over-par 289 during the final round to finish in a tie for fifth place out of 19 teams. Playing with four freshmen and one sophomore in the lineup, the Hoosiers posted a 2-under 862 (289-284-289) at the Oasis Golf Club (6,921 yards, par 72), matching their best 54-hole total of the fall campaign. Leading IU for the fourth time in five fall tournaments, Jorge Campillo tied for 19th with a 1-under-par 215. The freshman notched even-par 72s in the first and final rounds with a 71 sandwiched in between. Campillo closed out the fall season leading the club with a 72.87 scoring average in 15 rounds. Freshman Drew Allenspach followed Campillo in a share of 23rd place, collecting a 216 total. After rounds of 69 and 71, the Sugar Land, Texas, native shot a final-round 76. Despite his third round, Allenspach netted his fifth straight top-30 finish in as many events. CLUB DE GOLF SANTA ANITA/NT CLASSIC (FEB. 19-20) GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Securing its best finish of the 2005-06 campaign, the Indiana men's golf team placed second at the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic. The Hoosiers posted a 290 in the third and final round to finish at 868 (297-281-290), three strokes behind firstplace Houston (288-290-287) in the 11-team field. Participating in its first event in just over four months at the Club de Golf Santa Anita (par 72, 6,884 yards), IU recorded its best showing since a runner-up finish at the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8). Freshman Jorge Campillo appeared to have medalist honors in hand only to be thwarted by Houston's Pablo Acuan (72-70-68), who birdied five of his final six holes to defeat Campillo by one stroke and lift the Cougars to the championship. Campillo closed with a sterling 4-under-par 68, matching his best round of the season and ended the tournament at 5-under 211. Following Campillo, sophomore Santiago Quirarte enjoyed a brilliant return to his home country after netting a share of fourth place. The Queretaro product carded his third straight 71 to close at 3-under 213. On the heels of a sensational 68 in round two, freshman Seth Brandon cruised to the best finish of his career. The Dalton, Ga., native posted a 219 total (76-68-75) to garner a three-way tie for 13th. ORANGE COUNTY NATIONAL (MARCH 4-5) WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Freshman Jorge Campillo claimed his second straight top-10 finish as the Indiana men's golf team finished eighth out of 15 teams at the Orange County National Invitational on March 4-5. IU recorded scores of 291, 285 and 296 en route to a team total of 872 at the Crooked Cat Golf Course (par 72, 7,277 yards). Campillo began the final round in second place after firing rounds of 70 and 68 on day one. A final-round 74 assured Campillo of a sixth-place tie. It was Campillo's second top-10 finish in as many tournaments, coming on the heels of a second-place performance at the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic (Feb. 19-20), which earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors. PINEHURST INTERCOLLEGIATE (MARCH 19-21) PINEHURST, N.C. - Due to unplayable conditions, the final round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate was canceled. Therefore, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, and the Indiana men's golf team claimed third place out of 17 teams at The Centennial Pinehurst Course No. 8 (7,035 yards, par 72). SMU captured the team title by one stroke over UAB (298-298) and five shots over Indiana at 592 (291-301). The Mustangs Colt Knost earned medalist honors with a 1-under-par 143 (71-72). Drew Allenspach led the Hoosier contingent at the event. The freshman struggled to a 77 in round two but finished the tournament in 11th place due to a sparkling 1-under 71 in the opening round. The Sugar Land, Texas collected the best finish of his career (previous best - tie for 18th at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, Oct. 3-4). BOILERMAKER INVITATIONAL (APRIL 8-9) WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the first time since the 2004 Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11-12), the Indiana men's golf team won a team championship and a Hoosier (Jeff Overton) won medalist honors at the same event. The Hoosiers took apart a loaded 12-team field at the Boilermaker

Fossum/Spartan Invitational (April 22-23) - 7 Invitational, and freshman Jorge Campillo captured individual honors by eight strokes at the Kampen Course (7,083 yards, par 72). IU finished the tournament at 882 (301-287-294) for its first title since the 2004 Xavier, finishing 14 shots better than second-place Purdue (310-288- 298) and 18 strokes ahead of third-place Notre Dame (307-300-293). Meanwhile, Campillo claimed his first career title and became the first Hoosier to win a tournament since PGA Tour member Jeff Overton claimed medalist honors at the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8). Additionally, he is the first true freshman to win an event since current assistant coach Josh Brewer was victorious at the 1995 Legends Intercollegiate. Campillo capped off a remarkable tournament with a spectacular 68 for a 4-under 212 total. The Caceres, Spain native opened with a 74 before posting a 2-under 70 in round two and the lowest round in the 72-player field in the third and final round. Recording the best finish of his career, freshman Drew Allenspach tied for second place with Cole Isban and Josh Sandman of Notre Dame. The Sugar Land, Texas native closed with a 74 on the heels of a 75 in round one and a 1-under 71 in round two for a 220. The third Hoosier in the top 15 was freshman Seth Brandon. The Dalton, Ga., product picked up his second career top-15 finish after sharing 14th. Brandon finished with 225 (78-68-79) with his second-round 68 matching Campillo for the low round of the invitational. KEPLER INTERCOLLEGIATE (APRIL 15-16) DUBLIN, Ohio - Freshman Seth Brandon shared medalist honors as the Indiana men's golf team claimed second place at the 15-team Kepler Intercollegiate. IU shot a final-round 304 for an 882 total (286-292-304), four shots short of the champion Northwestern Wildcats (298-284-296). The event was hosted at Muirfield Village Golf Club (7,159 yards, par 72), home of the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament, and the teams faced the Sunday pin placements used in the final round of the Memorial. Despite IU shooting the third-lowest round in the field, NU answered with the only sub-300 round. The Hoosiers also placed second amongst the nine Big Ten teams in the field and finished 21 strokes ahead of thirdplace Xavier. The Dalton, Ga., native opened the event with a 67- the lowest round of his career and in the entire 78-player field - before recording back-toback 74s to close the tournament. Joining Brandon with a 74 on the final 18, freshman Jorge Campillo collected his third top-three finish of the season. On the heels of his individual title at the Boilermaker Invitational (April 8-9), the Caceres, Spain native tied for third at 217. Campillo opened with a 73, responded with a 2- under 70 in round two and closed with his 74. Netting his best career finish in his first action since the fall campaign (Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, Oct. 3-4), Brad Marek placed in a tie for 11th place. The senior turned in a 224 total (72-74-78) to give the Hoosiers three golfers in the top 11.

HEAD COACH MIKE MAYER EIGHTH SEASON THE MAYER FILE ALMA MATER Indiana University, 1987 EDUCATION M.S. in Sports Management, 1998 B.A. in Journalism, 1987 B.A. in English Literature, 1987 EXPERIENCE Indiana University Head Coach Eighth Season, 1999-Present Indiana University Director of Golf Ninth Season, 1998-Present Indiana University Assistant Coach Nine Seasons, 1990-1998 HIGHLIGHTS Has led the Hoosiers to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, the first time since the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons IU has made back-toback NCAA trips. Guided Indiana to a second-place finish at the 2005 Big Ten Championships, the best finish for a Hoosier team since the 1998 squad claimed a Big Ten title. In the last two seasons, Indiana has won five team titles. Has produced one All-American (twice) and three Academic All- America Scholars. HOMETOWN North Vernon, Ind. Mike Mayer is in his eighth season at the helm of the Indiana men s golf program. His focus has been to rekindle the fire that brought the Indiana men s golf team a Big Ten Championship in 1998, and he has accomplished just that. During the 2004-05 campaign, Mayer led the Hoosiers back into the NCAAs for the second straight year, the first time since the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons IU has made return appearances in the postseason. Indiana also corralled its best finish at the Big Ten Championships since 1998, finishing in second place, five shots behind Michigan State. At the Big Tens, arguably IU s greatest golfer, Jeff Overton, became the first Hoosier since Shaun Micheel in 1991 to win medalist honors. He plowed through the field with a record-tying total of 199. Overall, the team collected its fifth victory in two seasons and seventh under Mayer s direction, winning the Xavier Invitational for the second consecutive season. Indiana finished the year with eight topfive and four top-three finishes, including three second-place showings. The Hoosiers carded a 291.91 scoring average, second only to the 291.84 mark set the previous season. Mayer also directed the career of one of the most accomplished golfers to ever step foot on the IU campus. Overton completed his four years in Bloomington leaving his personal stamp on the program. Overton earned second team All-America accolades in 2004 and 2005. He is the only Hoosier golfer to ever card a single-season scoring average under 70 with 69.97 in 2004-05, and his career average of 71.72 bested Randy Leen s 73.49 mark for the top spot in school history. The Evansville, Ind., native won eight career tournaments, including Big Ten medalist honors in 2005, and for the second straight year was named Big Ten Player of the Year in 2004-05, becoming the first Hoosier since Leen (1996-98) to garner the award in consecutive seasons. Additionally in 2004-05, Overton won the Les Bolstad Award for low season stroke average for the second time in as many years. He was named to the All-Big Ten team all four years of his career, claiming first team honors three times. He also became the first Hoosier to participate in both the Walker and Palmer Cups in 2005. Indiana s success came on the heels of one one of the greatest seasons in the program s history in 2003-04. For the first time since the 1996-97 season and the first time in his tenure, Mayer led the Hoosiers into the NCAA tournament. IU finished tied for 20th at the Central Regional, and Overton became the first Hoosier since Randy Leen (1998) to advance to the NCAA Championships. In addition to returning to the NCAAs, Mayer led Indiana to four team titles, the second most in school history and the most in a single season since 1974-75. Mayer also coached Indiana s first All-American since Leen (1998) in Overton. Along with Overton, Mayer helped develop Heath Peters into one of the top golfers in the conference. Peters narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championships, tying for 30th at the NCAA Regionals. Fossum/Spartan Invitational (April 22-23) - 8 Peters finished the year earning a spot on the All- Midwest Region team and was a second team All- Big Ten member. Overton and Peters helped the Hoosiers continue on a steady climb to the top as the team improved its finish at the Big Ten Championships each of their four seasons in Bloomington. After tying for sixth as a freshman, finishing sixth as sophomores and placing fifth two years ago as juniors, Indiana claimed a second-place finish at last season s championships. Overton took home medalist honors, tying the Big Ten 54-hole scoring record. The success derived by Mayer is even more rewarding given Mayer s familiarity with IU. He is an alum of the university and spent nine seasons as an assistant coach under Sam Carmichael before taking over the men s program in the fall of 1998. During those nine seasons as an assistant coach, Mayer was a part of two Big Ten Championships and a trip to the NCAA Championships. In his first year as head coach, Mayer had the pressure of repeating what the team had accomplished in 1998, winning a Big Ten Championship. Though the Hoosiers did not repeat, he helped set the foundation for what is once again one of the top programs in the conference. In that first season, Mayer had his first All-Big Ten recipient as Brent Landry was named to the all-conference squad. With Steve Wheatcroft accomplishing the feat in 2000 and 2001, Overton in 2002 and 2003, Overton and Peters in 2004 and Overton once again being selected All-Big Ten last season, Mayer has coached at least one Hoosier golfer to All-Big Ten honors in each of his seven full seasons. Individual accolades have not only come for Mayer s golfers on the course, but also in the classroom. During his tenure, Indiana golfers have earned 33 Academic All-Big Ten honors, including a program record eight in both 2004 and 2005. Ryan Cassidy was named an All-America Scholar in 2004, while Brad Marek and Scott Seibert collected All-America Scholar honors in 2005. Mayer has brought the Hoosiers into the Big Ten spotlight as the conference has emerged as one of the best in the nation. A big asset in Mayer returning the program to prominence has been his strong recruiting classes. Over the last four campaigns, Mayer has turned in four exceptional recruiting classes that have shattered records throughout the Hoosier record book. He has retained the top talent from the state of Indiana while extending into the international fray to bring in new recruits. Over the last three seasons, Mayer s newcomers have produced the first-, second-, fourth-, fifth-, sixth- and the 12th-lowest freshman scoring stroke averages in school history. Mayer s recruits also have set new season and career stroke averages. Overton owns the top two and the fifth-lowest single-season scoring averages in school history, while Peters claims the 10th-lowest single-season stroke average. In addition, Overton closed his career with the lowest career average in the program s history, while Peters staked the third-lowest career average. Born Michael Barry Mayer on February 17, 1957 in Seymour, Ind., Mayer married the former Kimberly Collier on July 26, 2005. The couple resides in Unionville.
