MERCY FITNESS & WHITEWATER AQUATIC CENTER 580 S. ELIZABETH ST. WHITEWATER, WI 53190 Member Spotlight: Neal Long 1. What do you like best about the facility? It is always a pleasure to come in and see young people smiling, doing their job and saying, good morning. It is refreshing. The areas I use in the building are so very well maintained and clean. 2. How long have you been a member? I became a member on February 9, 2005. I ve been a member at two other facilities and yours is the best. 3. What keeps you motivated and coming back? I believe physical fitness contributes to a healthy body, more alert mind and better weight control. Working out in the fitness room or swimming reminds you to take smaller portions at the dinner table or just push the chair away from the table. 4. What is your favorite thing to do when you come? The pool is great, and I use the elliptical machine in the fitness center. It provides a smooth, all-over body movement. Then the hot tub makes my day. 5. Do you have any advice to potential members or a quote? I give this quote to my friends: It is difficult to soar with the eagles during the day when you fly with the owls at night. When your only activity is playing cards, bowling, having coffee in the morning with the boys, etc., the benefits are not the same as activities that are physical. Partner Spotlight: Barry Pechous Barry has been an employee at Mercy and Whitewater Aquatic Center for five years. He started here as a lifeguard and now works as a fitness associate and child care attendatnt. Barry is studing interpersonal communication with a minor in criminal justice at UW-Whitewater. During his free time, Barry enjoys spending time with his family, working out, playing football and helping out at his church. One of the things he enjoys most about working at Mercy and Whitewater Aquatic Center is getting to know all the new members and employees. Say Hi to Barry next time you see him.

Some like to take it easy and swim a nice, easy pace. Others get their 20 to 25 laps accomplished in less then 25 minutes. So, let s please try to follow these few simple rules. Lap lanes are usually designated slow, medium and fast so you can match lanes to your speed. Three or more swimmers in a lane must circle swim, keeping to the right at all times When entering a lane or beginning a swim, enter so as not to disrupt the continuous swim of others. If you change speeds (e.g., switch to a kicking set) a lane change may be necessary. Be aware of passing procedures. If someone seems about to pass you or touches your toes, pull over and let them pass. If you are continually being passed or passing others, a lane change may be necessary. If you stop, squeeze into the left corner of the lane so that other swimmers have room for their turns. If you use pool equipment, please return it to the proper storage area. 8
