THE GREATER PHILADELPHIA LOCKSMITHS ASSOCIATION www.gpla.org President Orvis Kline, CPL, CAL Vice President & Newsletter Editor Michael Nimmo Treasurer Martin Arnold Recording Secretary Nelson Dayton, CML Corresponding Secretary Paul Kline, RL Sergeant at Arms Bruce Wallen Board of Directors Chairman of the Board Edward Fitzgerald, CML Clifford L. Shafer, CPS, CML Sven K. Hellwig, Sr., CRL Barry Wilensky, CRL Dana Barnum, CML, CPS John Williams, CRL In this Issue: Presidential Viewpoint Minutes from April Membership Meeting Article on Clone Machine Calendar of Events Safe Deposit Lock Class at GPLA June 14 The Professional Locksmith The Monthly Publication of GPLA Volume 60 Issue 5 May 2014 PRESIDENTIAL VIEWPOINT John Williams and Paul Kline hit the mark in showing you just why you should be providing automotive remotes in your shop and just how easy it is to make automotive keys from scratch! This very informative program continued my goal to provide you with meeting programs that are useful to many members. Last month s program was another one you ll be sorry you missed!! Please make plans to attend future meetings and become active in the greatest Locksmith Association in the world! (I may be a little prejudiced)... We only have two meetings left before we take a break for the summer. This month s meeting will be presented by Master Lock and the June meeting will be our annual clean up our Headquarters meeting. Chef Clifford has agreed to favor us with his culinary skills again this year!! I just returned from Just Cars in Orlando, FL (rained 3 out of 4 days we were there! Only sunny day was the day we came back!). So many toys to buy and so little money! Congratulations to Joe Reustle on his election to the Board of Directors of SAVTA!! We had quite a few GPLA members at SAVTA in Lexington, KY this year. Reminder -- Our new GPLA Convention Chairman, Cliff Shafer, and his committee have been busy getting the 2014 Convention platform off the ground. They have chosen a theme for this year s convention The European Locksmith Federation Celebrating 30 Years. Mark your calendars for classes on September 10th, 11th & 12 th and our trade show and Banquet on Saturday, September 13 th. See you on the 19 th. Fraternally, Orvis A Kline, CPL, CAL President, GPLA

Minutes of the April 2014 GPLA General Membership Meeting The April GPLA General Membership Meeting was held at Headquarters April 21, 2014, and was called to order by President Orvis Kline at 7:35 pm. There were 2 guests, Fred Kuhar from Fox Chase Lock, and John Voorhees. Program: John Williams conducted a 30-minute seminar on auto remotes, and Paul Kline followed up with 30 minutes on the Lishi auto lock pick. Minutes: Bill Neff made a motion, seconded by John Williams, to accept the previous meeting s minutes as published in the newsletter. It passed unanimously. Treasurer s Report: Martin Arnold announced that since there was no Board meeting this month, the report had not been approved to present to the general membership. Correspondence In & Out: None President s Report: Orvis Kline announced that PECO is investigating why our electric bill has gone up substantially. Health & Welfare: It was reported that Vice-President Mike Nimmo had spent a few days in the hospital recently with complications from a kidney stone. Newsletter: Mike Nimmo is looking for articles contributed by members, and has even offered to help write them. Convention: Cliff Shafer reported all is on track for our convention to be held September 9-13, 2014. So far, Allegion and Lockmasters will be Gold sponsors, and Clark Security will also be a sponsor. John Williams reported the classes will include masterkeying SFIC, advanced access control, basic safe, and car remotes. Membership: Mike Nimmo reported we are in a crunch to find a new background check company willing to work with us. Building: Ron Marcinkowski said some ceiling tiles were replaced. Legislation PA/NJ: Bill Neff reported that as of 2009 IBC codes, except for Philadelphia, PA is enforcing the 5 lb opening force requirement even on exterior doors. Ed Fitzgerald reported that NJ requires licensees to know the law ignorance is no excuse. Holiday Party: Paul Kline reported the date will be Sunday, December 14, from 4-8 pm at the Pennsauken Country Club. Program: Mark Bolno reported the May meeting will have Jay Norton from Master Lock. Old Business: None

New Business: None Good of the Association: Jim Sundstrond announced that on May 3 the SJLA will be hosting a party in recognition of their 25 th anniversary. Entertainment will be by Uncle Floyd and all are invited. Joe Reustle reported that Safe Tech in Kentucky will be in May. Ed Fitzgerald reported that Ed Dornisch is liquidating A&B Safe and retiring to South Carolina. And, of course, Orvis Kline reported that Just Cars will be in May in Orlando. 50/50: Several people won various prizes. There was a motion to adjourn at 9:08 pm by Dana Barnum, seconded by Ed Fitzgerald, and carried unanimously. Respectfully submitted, Nelson Dayton, Recording Secretary By Rick Stabile I purchased the Keyline 884 clone machine. The instructions were very easy to read and understand. I would be using the electronic heads with the horseshoe blades. The first time I used the machine, I had a problem. After cloning the duplicate car key, I could not connect the electronic head to the horseshoe blade. First I tried tapping them together with a rubber mallet. Then I used a bar clamp. I was able to squeeze both sides of the electronic head into the horseshoe blade. (Photo below). I was worried I would damage the two plastic clips that are on each side of the electronic head. No problem. It was a happy ending.

Membership Applicant to be considered at Future Meeting: Nicholas Denaro Apprentice Member Sponsor: Dana Barnum
