Position Numbers The next thing you need to learn in order to keep score are the numbers used to describe each position. The baseball diamond is as follows: 1 2 3 Pitcher (P) Catcher (C) First Base (1B) 4 5 6 Second Base (2B) Third Base (3B) Short Stop (SS) 7 8 9 Left Field (LF) Centre Field (CF) Right Field (RF) 7 5 6 8 4 1 2 3 9 Scoring Hits To score a hit, all you need to know is the type of hit it was (eg. Double, Home Run, etc.) Just write the abbreviation for the type of hit in the box beside the diamond and draw a line showing which base the player got to. 1B 3B 2B HR Make sure to advance any players who were already on base to their next base. Scoring a walk or hit by pitch is the same as scoring a hit. Just write BB or HBP in the box beside the diamond and draw a line showing the player at first base. BB HBP Scoring Runs To score a run, simply colour on the entire diamond in the box of the player who scored. Scoring Outs To mark which out it was of the three outs, put a 1, 2, or 3 in a circle in the bottom left corner of the box. To score an out, know where the ball went, who it was thrown to, or who caught it. Write the position number of the player who caught the ball, and then who it was thrown to. Eg. If the SS caught the ball and threw it to the 1B to complete the out, write 6-3 in the box. 1 6-3 If it was a fly out to one person, eg, If the CF caught it, write F8 in the box. 2 F8 If a player strikes out, put a in the centre of the diamond if they struck out swinging, or a backwards if they struck out looking. 2 3 At the end of an inning, put a slash in the bottom right corner of the last player to come up to bat in that particular inning. 6-4-3 3 DP BB
