The Cubs have now won their season-opening series for the second-straight year after last season sweeping the Angles in a two-game set at Anaheim the team recorded series-opening wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1998 at the Marlins (2-1) and 1999 at Houston (2-1). Schwarber s three-run blast yesterday was his sixth career go-ahead home run of his 17 career regular season home runs, eight have either tied the game or given Chicago the lead dating to 2015, his last four regular season long balls have come on the first pitch of an at-bat. AGAINST THE BREW CREW: Chicago won 22 of 26 against Milwaukee from July 30, 2015 through September 5 of last season, hitting.245 with 26 homers and 119 runs scored in those 26 contests (4.6 runs per game) while posting a 2.33 ERA (61 ER/236.0 IP) however, the Cubs dropped five of their final six against Milwaukee last season, averaging 3.2 runs per game with a.245 average and a 5.26 ERA (31 ER/53.0 IP). Koji Uehara has not surrendered a run in his last 16.1 innings since July 9 of last season that s the second-longest active scoreless innings streak in the bigs, second only to Britton (18.0 IP). Carl Edwards Jr. has already stranded all four baserunners he s inherited he s stranded nine of his last 10 since August 28 of last season at the Dodgers. AGE IS JUST A NUMBER: New Cubs reliever Koji Uehara celebrated his 42nd birthday on Monday and on Tuesday night became just the fourth hurler since 1913 to pitch for the Cubs, age 42 or older.
