Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN 46225 317.269.3542 www.indyindians.com GONE SO SOON: 12-10, 1st IL West RHP Adrian Sampson (0-3, 3.22 ERA) Friday, May 1, 2015 7:15 p.m. EDT Victory Field Indianapolis, IN Game #23 Home Game #12 This season marks the first campaign since 2011 in which both Matt Hague & Chase d Arnaud aren t featured within the organization (or Tribe). The duo combined to appear in 818 games with Indy from 2011-14. LAST TIME OUT [The Louisville Bats outhit the Tribe 11-4 en route to a 6-2 victory that paced a 1-1 series split on Thursday afternoon at Victory Field.] THE INDIANS... Enter Friday with a half-game lead atop the IL West division; The Tribe has held at least a share of first place during five of the last eight days... Have won seven of the last 10, eight of the last 11 and nine of the last 12 games since April 17 vs. Louisville... Are also tied for the best record in the IL over the last 10 games with that 7-3 mark... Were 15-7 after 22 games last season (16-7 after 23). SERIES SHOWDOWN The Indians and IronPigs meet for the first of seven matchups during the 2015 season; tonight s series opener also marks the Tribe s first non-divisional tilt of the year after opening the campaign with 22 straight IL West games... Indy won a franchise-record six straight games against LHV from June 8 - July 8, 2014 before ending the season s series with a 7-4 defeat on July 9... The Indians begin the current series at 9-3 over the last 12 meetings at Victory Field since the beginning of 2012. ONE-RUN...FUN? Thursday marked just the Indians 10th game decided by more than one run and the team has already played in a league-high 12 one-run games - two more than the next-closest IL teams... Indy currently leads the IL with seven wins in such games (7-5 record). KING IN THE CASTLE Starter Nick Kingham struck out six or more batters for the fourth straight start with his seven whiffs of the Bats yesterday... He has totaled 29 strikeouts in 26 innings to rank second in the IL in that category this year. BIG-STICK SWINGIN NICK Kingham drew a walk and scored to both reach base safely and scored a run for the first time of his Triple-A career... He previously went 0-for-9 with four strikeouts with the Tribe prior to that plate appearance. NO VICTORY AT...THE VICTORY With a 1-1 split against Louisville, the first-place Tribe still remains winless through four series at Victory Filed in 2015... The Indians are the only IL division leader to own a sub-.500 home record, and have gone 5-6 at Victory Field with a four-game split vs. Columbus, 1-1 split with Toledo, 2-1 loss to Louisville (April 15-17) and recent 1-1 split with the Bats. IF YOU AIN T FIRST, YOU RE LAST For the third straight season, Indy concluded the first month of the campaign ranked first in the IL West... The team finished April with a 5.5-game lead in the division both in 2013 and 2014 (ranked third in 2012). WHO DIGS THE LONGBALL? The Indians extended their season-long home-run drought following yesterday s contest... The club began the season with a seven-game homer drought, went deep eight times in the next seven games (April 16-23) and have since gone without a home run in eight games from April 24-30. EAZZY DOZZIT Including a knock against Louisville, Steve Lombardozzi has hit safely in 16 of 19 starts, scored or driven in a run in eight of 19 starts and leads the team with seven multi-hit efforts... He enters Friday s action ranked second in the IL in doubles (nine), third in batting (.375) and hits (27) and tied for sixth in extra-base hits (nine). SANCHIZE PLAYER Tony Sanchez collected the Tribe s lone RBI against the Bats with a bases-loaded walk... In just nine Triple-A games, Sanchez has contributed to 12 of the Tribe s runs with four runs scored and nine RBIs (one solo homer). O-B-G(orkys) Gorkys Hernandez is the league s lone player to appear in 22 games this season, and with his double on Thursday, has now reached base safely in 20 of those 22 contests with 22 hits, 13 walks (ranks tied for third in the IL) and a.398 OBP. RUNNIN MAN Hernandez has scored at least one run in 11 of his last 13 games since April 18 (12 runs in that span)... Overall, he is tied for second in the league with 14 runs scored on the year. He has limited left-handed bats to a.179 clip (7x39,.347 vs RHP) with one homer, and allowed just three base hits to opposing batters leading off an inning (.167). 2014: Sampson combined to go 11-6 with a 2.96 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 28 minor league starts (18 QS) between Double-A Altoona and the Tribe...
