NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT Elections will be held at the Annual General Meeting of Skate Canada Manitoba at the Victoria Inn, Winnipeg MB, April 28, 2018. There is One (1) Chairman position available for a two (2) year term One (1) Vice-Chair position available for a two (2) year term Two (2) Elected Directors positions available for two (2) year terms. When I was president of St Andrews Skating Club, I sat on the board for the St Andrews Community Club. During each of my roles in the club, I gained a strong knowledge of club background. Goals and Objectives if elected are: My goal in Skate Canada Manitoba is to be a positive role model in our sport by consciously living the values of Collaboration, Respect and Excellence in every action. I take pleasure in watching children develop the skill to skate and to see them grow in a sport where they can see their hard work gain them the confidence and strength. My goal is to ensure the sport of skating is fair for all who want to be involved in whichever level they choose to participate. 2

SARAH ISLIEFSON Nominated for: Director Present Office: None Occupation: Educator Club Affiliation: Skate Winnipeg Objective My goal is to become a Director on the Board of Skate Canada Manitoba. I am not presently on the Board and have not held any positions on the Board in the past. My primary interest is in the area of Officials. Skating Background I have been a member of Skate Canada for over 19 years. My involvement in Skate Canada Manitoba started in the CanSkate program, then the STARSkate program and finally as an Official. As a STAR Skater, I achieved Senior Silver Skating Skills, Senior Bronze Free Skate, Silver Interpretive and two Gold Dances. I am currently a member of Skate Winnipeg. Volunteer Experience I have been volunteering as an Official for over 12 years. My qualifications are Novice level singles judge and Gold evaluator for Ice Dance, Skating Skills, Free Skate and Interpretive. I am currently pursuing my Senior level singles promotion. I have judged competitions and evaluated at test days across Manitoba and I have also been invited to Ontario to judge and evaluate there as well. A few outof-province highlights include; judging at Summer Sizzle in Waterloo and Sunset County Interclub in Dryden. Other experience that I have within Skate Canada Manitoba includes: Program assistant for the CanSkate program for many years. Represented the Officials on the Coaches Committee and acted as a liaison between the two committees. Participated in Strategic Planning sessions for the Section. Volunteered at various competitions that I was not skating or judging at, including a Synchro competition and Western Challenge when it was held in Winnipeg. Other Relevant Experience Early/Middle Years Teacher I am in my eighth year as an Early/Middle Years teacher. I have held a variety of positions as a teacher. I am currently a French teacher for English students in fourth to sixth grade. Overall Coordinator, Snorri West 4

Coordinated an exchange program for Icelandic youth ages 18 to 25 to visit various communities across North America which have ties to Icelandic roots in the summers from 2012 to 2015. Participated on the organizing committee in the summer of 2016. Tasks included creating budgets, coordinating volunteers for activities and housing, planning excursions, creating informational documents using Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and acting as a tour guide while the participants were staying in my community. Skills and Assets Professionalism I am a professional who takes my career and volunteer experiences very seriously. I encounter private information on a daily basis and follow procedures to keep that information secure. I do not discuss information with people who are not privy to this information or share it on social media. I follow professional codes of conduct and demonstrate positive deportment as a teacher and Skate Canada official. Communication As a teacher, I successfully communicate with students, staff and parents every day. It is important for me to be able to explain myself verbally and in written form. I not only teach concepts in English but also in French. Time Management and Organization I am highly organized and an effective time-manager. I have been involved in a variety of professional, personal and volunteer activities throughout my life. It has become very important for me to be able to balance all of these activities. A few of the strategies that I use to help me keep track of my tasks are; using checklists, calendars, agendas, timelines, and digital reminders. Leadership My professional and volunteer experience has helped shape me as a leader in a variety of ways. I define a leader as a person who motivates their team, is creative, trustworthy, responsible and shows respect. Every day that I teach in the classroom I am striving to be the best leader for my students as I can be and work hard to motivate my students to not only see themselves as life-long learners, but also as leaders of today and tomorrow. A Quote From A Reference Sarah has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially children. Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both excellent. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. She can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. Especially change that is progressive and moves in positive direction. I see this with out Section as we move towards many changes within the STAR Program and CPC. I feel with my experience, I can assist SCMB with adapting to the changes and offer insight from a judge and evaluator view point. There is an urgent need for recruitment to the team. All aspects of technical panels and data I can assist in recruitment and mentorship 6

I also have strong skills in organization, team work and the ability to work with team members. In my working career at MPI, I trained and mentored junior staff and sat on focus groups. In my community I belong to a strong dedicated ladies group. We work hard at fundraising and cater events to raise money for the hall and community. I feel I would be a valued addition to Skate Canada Manitoba Board of Directors. 7

Discussion took place that by 2019, we would have targeted skaters 15+ (as of 2015) to be fully trained as judges at the Novice level and integrated into our system. I also would like to look at getting further training for our present judges, data specialists, as well as recruitments for all officials so that our province maybe able to fulfill most of our positions in our competitions. 8
