The LumberKings trail the all-time series 423-452, dating back to 1962, against Burlington and, 59-74, since the LumberKings became a Seattle Mariners affiliate in 2009. The LumberKings lost the season series, 7-8, to the Kernels in 2016. At Cedar Rapids, the LumberKings won the season series four games to three. LumberKings Starter: Danny Garcia, 23, makes his ninth start and appearance of the season for Clinton. Garcia was hit hard in his last start taking the loss against the Burlington Bees after lasting just 3.1 innings. The lefty allowed a season-high among LumberKings pitchers for hits, 11. Most of the damage done in the start came in the first inning when he gave five runs. Garcia allowed all of eight of Burlington s runs and the LumberKings fell 8-5. A Miami native, Garcia pitched at the University of Miami before being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round in the 2016 draft. At school, he pitched in two College World Series, lastly facing the UC Santa Barbra Gauchos. His pregame ritual is to take a nap. Kernels Starter: Domenick Carlini IV, 23, makes his seventh appearance and sixth start of the season for the Kernels. After beginning the season in the bullpen, Carlini has been moved into the starting rotation and is coming off his longest start of the season. His last time out he earned the win with six innings of work at Wisconsin he allowed six hits, one run on a home run, while striking out four. Carlini began the season in extended spring training a place he admitted he did not want to be but told himself that he would be there for the season so as not to get too down about being in Fort Myers Florida each week. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee but grew up in Mississippi and attended Southern Louisiana University. His dad player football and tennis in college and he enjoy ping pong in his off time. He throws a fastball, two-seam and four seam, changeup, curve, slider, and cutter. His out pitch is his fastball or changeup. Has cited the strikeout pitch as the thing he working on most. Last Time Out: Jermaine Palacios of the Cedar Rapids Kernels homered in the bottom of the 12th inning to walk-off the Clinton LumberKings 6-3 on Monday night at Perfect Game Field. After leading for most of the game, the LumberKings (16-25) pitching could not hold off the Kernels in an extra inning loss in game one of a four game series. The LumberKings scored first, bring home a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Rayder Ascanio, Bryson Brigman, and Joe Rizzo each reached with hits against Kernels (26-18) starter Sean Poppen. Rizzo had the big of the inning driving home both Ascanio and Brigman with a double to left field. The 2-0 lead was short lived. The Kernels answered with a two-run rally of their own in the bottom of the first after loading the bases against LumberKings starter Ljay Newsome. Following an RBI ground out by Jaylin Davis, Kernels Travis Blankehorn doubled home the second run of the inning to tie the game. In the top of the second inning, the LumberKings reclaimed their lead when Luis Rengifo was hit to leadoff the inning and scored on the very next pitch to Luis Liberato who doubled to left for the third and final LumberKings run of the night. Walk-off Losses: The Clinton LumberKings have not fared well with walk-offs this year, Clinton currently has no walk-offs of their own and after Monday night s loss have been walked-off five times. It was the second time Clinton was walked-off via the home run and Clinton is now 0-3 in extra inning games. Streak Snaps: Anthony Jimenez had a rare game in which he did reach base safely during Monday night s loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels. It marked the first time in 12 game that Jimenez did not reach base, the second longest streak by a LumberKing this season. Three Times the Loss: Clinton came the closest they have come to winning a game this season when scoring three runs or less. Clinton is now 0-17 when scoring three runs or less after failing to hold onto their 3-2 lead that they took into the seventh inning. The K s: LumberKings pitching did have the strikeout pitch working in Monday night s loss the team punched out 11 batters, making it the 14 time this year LumberKings pitchin has struck out ten or more batters. Quality Start No Win: Ljay Newsome turned in his third quality start of the year, his longest start of the season going 6.1 innings. Newsome still did not earn the win, which was the third time this year the LumberKings failed to earn the win after getting a quality start. This date in baseball history: On this date in 1965, In the first inning of a 5-2 loss to San Francisco, Jimmy Wynn is unable to catch Jim Ray Hart's two-out routine fly ball when the ball is lost in the glare of diffused Texas sunlight streaming through plastic panes of the newly-opened Astrodome. The play, now a base-clearing inside-the-park three-run home run instead of an easy third out, results in the painting of the ballpark's ceiling the next day and will lead to the use of Astroturf next season, because grass will be unable to be grown due to the reduced amount of sunlight. Broadcast Information: All games will be broadcast live on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at LumberKings.com via the TuneIn Radio App with the Erik Oas, in his first season as the Voice of the LumberKings.
