We have begun the season of Advent with all the joy and anticipation that accompanies the season, and I wish to share a simple lesson I read recently. In answer to the question, Why does Advent matter? So often we focus on preparing for Jesus birth, making it easy to forget Jesus Christ grew to become not only our teacher, but our savior. If Jesus were only our teacher of the Gospel, we could just read his lessons any time we chose, but he is our savior, and this means we have to feel the need for him. There are times we need teachers, and times we need rescuing. To appreciate Jesus, we have to have some time spiritually to move into a space where we understand how stuck we are. Advent is about moving into that space. Advent is a time when we get deeply in touch with our need for a savior. I hope your family is able to find the time to experience the healing power of the sacrament of Reconciliation, as our students have this week. I hope each Sunday of Advent brings faith, hope, love, and joy into your households, and I hope you feel the same excitement about Christ as you feel upon discovering the perfect Christmas gift. As a parish, St. John the Baptist has many upcoming opportunities to contribute our gift of music to the season of Advent. Here are just a few upcoming events! December 12 - School Christmas Concert (grades 1, 3, and 4) in the gymnasium at 2:30 and 7:00 December 13 - Breakfast with Santa in school cafeteria December 13 - Caroling at the Mother Margaret Hall of Sisters of Charity in Delhi (permission slips needed for students) Carpools leave at 3:15 from St. John the Baptist. They are ordered and should be delivered any day! We were supposed to receive them the 3rd week in September but the company has had some issues with printers so they are just now getting caught up. If you have any questions, please contact Chrissy McAlister &/or LisAnne Thompson. If you have pictures that you have taken for the 2014-2015 school year and they are of good quality and would like to provide them to us for the YB, please either email them to StJBYearbook@gmail.com or if you have a bunch, gather the pictures into a file and provide them to us on a CD or a flash drive and we can return the flash drive to you! Pictures via a phone do not upload the greatest to the YB site especially when emailed. If you can provide them via CD or flash drive - it is the Best!
