WE RE ALL HERE BECAUSE WE RE NOT ALL THERE Norton Colorado www.nortoncolorado.org Newsletter September2015 Upcoming Events See page 10 for the entire official 2015 events schedule. September 11 th 13 th (Friday - Sunday) Up the Poudre Without a Paddle Ride Glen Echo Resort, Poudre Canyon http://www.glenechoresort.com/#/ September 20 th (Sunday) English Motoring Conclave Oak Park, Arvada http://www.thecoloradoconclave.com/ pages/welcome.htm October 4 th, 11 AM (Sunday) Jim and Marti Fisher are hosting their annual breakfast gathering. 1374 Greening Ave, Erie John Kinlin, enjoying the Century Ride on his Norton. 1

The Wimpy Campout Hosted by Jamie and Michelle Jones Once again Jamie and Michelle hosted an awesome party. Their house is located in a wooded area with plenty of room for the many tents that were set up. We spent most of our time in the garage amidst Jamie s collection of fine British bikes and his Cobra and 73 Mustang. The Wimpy Campout was started back in 2007 or 08, no one seems to remember exactly, and has become a club favorite. Jamie and Michelle are wonderful hosts and everyone is made to feel like they are family. The gathering was well attended by members as well as many non-members. Due to the beautiful weather there was a nice collection of motorcycles to check out. Marques included Triumphs, AJS, BMW, KTM, H-D, and Suzuki, in addition to the Nortons. We visited, shared motorcycle stories, ate, drank and after dark many of us made the switch to the Jack Daniels that Jamie saved especially for the party. In the morning we woke to breakfast and enough coffee to chase away the results of the Jack the night before. Those who spent the night were joined by several who came for the breakfast and the conversations and stories continued. A great time was had by all. If you haven t been to a Wimpy Campout you should plan on coming next year. Cathy and Bob having a good time The Jones campground. Very comfortable. 2

Century Ride For this event, points are doubled. Also, as a reward for driving the sag wagon and following us around all weekend, I have awarded Peggy Abeyta full points. The home-made cookies she brought along had something to do with it, too Rode a Norton Jack Abeyta John Kinlin Steve Harris Doug McCadam Craig Terry Larry Claxton Rode Something Lesser Eric Bergman (Laverda) Bob Herman (Moto Guzzi) Mike Powell (BMW) Scott Shuler (BMW) Got There Peggy Abeyta Debby Johnson Non-members Rick Starkey (Honda Goldwing) Ed Benson (BMW) Gary Reed (Indian) 6

I was having some electrical issues with my Norton and in in the process of troubleshooting I decided I needed some parts. Someone suggested I call Dave Porter at Old World Bikes in Golden. Well, much to my surprise, Dave had what I needed in stock. How nice to be able to get Norton parts in town again. Many of you already know Dave from Arvada British Cycles, but this was my first time meeting him. I found Dave to be very personable and knowledgeable about British bikes. He had some ideas of what might be my bike s problem and I left not only with my parts, but with some new ideas. I find having a shop in town that carries Norton parts very convenient. I think I ll be going back to see Dave. INOA Rally Report Several of our members made it to the INOA Rally in Asheville, North Carolina. John Dahl s bike is pictured here while riding the Blue Ridge parkway. Jim Comstock rode his Norton and his daughter, Hanna, road her FJ 1100. Gary Bolduc rode his Norton as did Steve Harris. Charley had this to say about their trip, Steve and Gary, two old farts on two old Nortons...4800 miles. John said there were around 450 people at the rally. There was good weather for the most part, with some rain here and there. North Carolina has some awesome riding. It was a great time. 7

Classic and Vintage Bike Show Call to all classic and vintage motorcycle owners and collectors: dust off your prize machine(s) and bring it or them to the 2015 Applefest in Cedaredge, Colorado on October 3rd. This year the show will be held at the Pioneer Town Museum in Cedaredge right next to the Chapel. It will be part of the annual vintage and classic car show this year. There is NO entry fee to display your motorcycle. This is not a judged event, just a fun day and a chance to let spectators admire, and perhaps covet, your prized passion. Try to have your bike there by 9:00 a.m. Questions contact Wayne Frame, wframe@tds.net, 970-856-7279970-856-7279 or Dwight or Karen Benson, ddbenson@outlook.com, 970-835-3789970-835-3789. http://cedaredgechamber.com/seasonal-events/applefest/ 8

Membership Membership in Norton Colorado is open to anyone, regardless of whether they own a Norton, or any motorcycle whatsoever. Dues are $20/ year individual, $22 for a couple or family unit, payable to "Norton Colorado" and sent to the Treasurer, whose contact information is listed on the last page of this newsletter. The list printed in this newsletter is the official membership, as understood by the Newsletter Editor on the date of publication of the newsletter. Please let me know if I have made an error. Club Events Many events have been scheduled for the 2015 season, usually about 2 per month. Participation in these events will be counted for the President's Award. Events may be added, dropped, or rescheduled through the year. The schedule can be found in this newsletter or check the schedule on the club website: http://www.nortoncolorado.org/ meetings.html The membership year begins with the Winter Banquet in February. New members who join after August 1 are credited with membership for the following year. Western Slope Riders Many Norton Colorado members live in the western part of the state, and finally have noticed that it s I inconvenient to ride 500 miles for High Tea on the Front Range. Said members have formed a loose confederation known as the Western Slope Riders, and are having their own High Tea and other fun times. All Norton Colorado members are welcome at these Western Slope events, so if you city kids want to find out what the shoe feels like on the other foot, plan to ride out and join the Western Slope contingent.
