The real stuff tips off next week when UCLA meets Kansas in a Coaches vs. Cancer matchup on Thur., Nov. 9. The Bruins would then play Kentucky or St. John s the next night. Both games will be played in Madison Square Garden... ARIZONA STATE is next for games that count as it meets Tulsa in the NABC Classic on Fri., Nov. 10 in Chapel Hill, N.C. The following night will feature the Sun Devils against either host North Carolina or Winthrop... Preseason prognosticators place ARIZONA No. 1 or No. 2, while STANFORD receives Top 10 billing. Head coach Lute Olson has 625 career wins, placing him 30th on the NCAA all-time victory list... Junior forward Michael Wright is the league s top returning rebounder (8.7 rpg) and most efficient shooter (.569)... Arizona opens regular season play against Chaminade on Nov. 20 in the opening round of the Maui Classic. ARIZONA STATE - Arizona State opens regular season play in the NABC Classic against Tulsa on Nov. 10... Sophomore Justin Allen has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, but it was detected early in the Stage II phase in September. He is expected to begin chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments and will redshirt this season. He is expected to return to the court in 2001-2002 and will have three years of eligibility remaining. CALIFORNIA - The Bears return their top nine scorers from last season. In all, Cal returns more than 93 percent of its scoring and rebounding and more than 75 percent of their assists... Senior forward Sean Lampley has been receiving the preseason hype as one of the top forwards in the game this season. JC transfer Philip Ricci will undergo arthroscopic left knee surgery Nov. 2 and will redshirt the season. Sophomore guard Emonte Jernigan will miss approximately six weeks after breaking a toe on his left foot. Freshman center Derek Potter has not practiced after a stress fracture in his left foot was diagnosed earlier in October. Sophomore point guard Jimmie Haywood has been slowed by a sprained right ankle... Oregon State opens regular season play at home on Nov. 17 against Cal State-Fullerton. STANFORD - The Cardinal open up the season at home against San Francisco State on Nov. 19. Sophomore Casey Jacobsen played for the practice squad that competed against Team USA prior to the Olympic games. UCLA - Coach Steve Lavin needs nine victories to reach 100 wins for his career...
