OSU VS. MISSISSIPPI STATE 12-29-11 W 78-71 Peppermill Holiday Classic, Reno, Nevada WHAT 2 WATCH 4 Oklahoma State s women s basketball team will hit the road this weekend to take part in the Big 12/SEC Challenge when it travels to Starkville, Miss., to face No. 6 Mississippi State (7-0) at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Cowgirls defeated Georgia, 71-51, last year in Stillwater as part of the event. Kaylee Jensen has logged double-doubles in three of the past four games. She now has 30 in her career, which ranks 16th nationally among active career leaders. Jensen s 774 career rebounds are 20th among career leaders and her 137 blocked shots are 25th as well. OSU ranks fifth nationally in turnovers per game (11.3). Loryn Goodwin is currently third nationally with her 4.6 steals per contest. KNOW THE FOE The Bulldogs are coming off a 34-5 campaign and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championship a year ago. MSU is 7-0 this season after a 94-37 win over Louisiana on Nov. 29. Three Bulldogs are averaging double figures with Victoria Vivians 18.4 points per contest leading the way. OSU VS. MSU... THE SERIES OSU won the only previous meeting between the two squads, claiming a 78-71 win at the 2011 Peppermill Holiday Classic in Reno, Nevada. LAST TIME OUT OSU won its 53rd consecutive regular-season home games against non-conference opposition. Areanna Combs poured in a career-high 18 points, while Mandy Coleman added a season-best 18 points. 10 Cowgirls got into the scoring column, marking the sixth time this year at least 10 players have scored. Jaden Hobbs matched her career high with three 3-pointers, signaling the fifth time in seven career games she has made at least two treys. JENSEN NAMED TO NAISMITH LIST Kaylee Jensen has been one of 50 players named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The award, which is celebrating its 50th year, is given to the nation s player of the year. A midseason list of 30 will be released in February. Jensen was one of five players from the Big 12 Conference named to the list. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS The Cowgirls have had considerable success over the past decade-plus at home against non-conference foes. During that span, OSU has posted an 103-5 mark and has gone undefeated nine times. The Cowgirls had a 47-game non-conference winning streak, which came to an end in 2010 against No. 5 Duke. After that loss, the Cowgirls reeled off 55 consecutive non-conference wins inside Gallagher-Iba Arena before their WNIT setback to Abilene Christian to end the 2016-17 campaign. Year Record Noteworthy 2016-17 7-1 OSU s saw its 55-game winning streak snapped 2015-16 8-0 48 wins in a row is the second-longest current streak 2014-15 8-0 Fourth undefeated non-league home slate in a row 2013-14 8-0 Average margin of victory was +37.9 2012-13 7-0 Extended non-league home win streak to 24 2011-12 12-0 All six WNIT wins came at home 2010-11 11-1 Lone loss was to No. 5 Duke 2009-10 9-0 2008-09 10-0 2007-08 9-0 2006-07 9-0 2005-06 5-3 Started 0-3 before winning the last five MARCH MADNESS The Cowgirls are in the midst of a program-record 11 consecutive postseason appearances. That string is comprised of seven NCAA Tournament berths (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and four WNIT appearances (2009, 2011, 2012, 2017). In 2012, the Cowgirls won their first WNIT title. With NCAA berths from 2013-16, it marked just the second time in program history the Cowgirls have made four NCAA appearances in a row. OSU made the NCAA field four consecutive years from 1993-1996. JENSEN EARNS ALL-BIG 12 HONOR Kaylee Jensen was one of five players named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. The awards are chosen by head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Jensen was named a first-team all-league selection a year ago after finishing as the conference s leading scorer (18.7 ppg) and rebounder (10.5 rpg). She tallied a Big 12-best 17 double-doubles as well. Off the court, Jensen was named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection as well as a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American Throughout the 2017-18 season, select games will be aired via statewide network. OSU shot 72.2 percent in the first quarter against the Shockers, marking their seventh quarter shooting at least 70 percent. The Cowgirls posted a 3-1 mark with victories over Victoria Country U-18, Cairns Dolphins and Basketball Australia. OSU s lone loss came at the hands of former Cowgirl Tegan Cunningham and the Waverley Falcons. OSU spent time in Melbourne, Cairns and Sydney during its tour. Jensen is now 226 rebounds shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. If she reaches the milestone, she would join Clinette Jordan, Brittney Martin, Lisa McGill and Toni Young as Cowgirls to record 1,000 career rebounds and points. OFF AND RUNNING Recent history says OSU will succeed early and often. OSU won its first eight games to start both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns. The following season, the Cowgirls won their first 11 games to set a new school standard. Three years ago, OSU broke that mark after reeling off victories in its first 12 contests. In 2014-15, the Cowgirls won 10 of their first 11 non-league games with the lone loss coming at North Carolina. Two years ago, OSU reeled off eight wins in a row to start the year before suffering its first loss at No. 20 South Florida. Last season, the Cowgirls won their first 10 contests of the year before suffering their first loss of the season against No. 25 Oregon State. FOLLOW THE BOUNCING BALL Following a standout career for the Cowgirl tennis team, Katarina Adamovic will try her hand at basketball in 2017-18. One of the most decorated players in OSU history, she earned All-America status and was named the NCAA Championship s most valuable player after leading the Cowgirls to a national runner-up finish as a junior. FAMILIAR FACES WELCOMED ABOARD Head coach Jim Littell added a trio of familiar faces to his staff during the offseason. Jerise Freeman came on board as an assistant coach for the Cowgirls this past summer. Freeman played two years for Littell at Seward County (Kan.) Community College. Megan Robbins, formerly Byford, returns to Stillwater as the program s director of basketball operations. Robbins was a three-year letterwinner for the Cowgirls from 2007-10, helping OSU reach the Sweet 16 in 2008. Brock McGinnis joined the Cowgirl staff as its video coordinator this fall. McGinnis worked as an assistant video coordinator for the Cowboy program from 2013-15. VETERAN ROOKIE Graduate transfer Loryn Goodwin has not had the traditional college experience. The Cypress, Texas native is making the fourth stop of her collegiate career. No matter the location, Goodwin has had the same success at every stop on the road to Stillwater. Goodwin spent her freshman season at North Texas where she was named the 2013 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year after averaging 13.1 points per game. She earned honorable mention All-Big East status at Butler in 2014-15 after scoring 15.6 points per contest. Goodwin was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year last season after averaging 17.5 points per game for UTSA. The 2013-14 season produced a 25-win campaign as well as the program s third NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. OSU reeled off a school-record 12 consecutive wins to start the year. Coached Tiffany Bias to honorable mention All-America status. Bias went on to be drafted by the WNBA s Phoenix Mercury In 2012-13, Littell guided OSU to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2010. The Cowgirls got out of the gate quickly, starting the year with 11 consecutive victories to log what was the best start in school history at the time. Coupled with its six wins to close out 2012, Littell s squad held the nation s longest winning streak for six weeks. Littell coached Tiffany Bias and Toni Young to honorable mention All-America status, while Brittney Martin was named a freshman All-American. Young capped her career as a first-round draft pick by the WNBA s New York Liberty, while Martin finished her freshman campaign with an invite to USA Basketball s U19 Team Trials. In 2011-12, he directed the Cowgirls to the 11th 20-win season in program history and saw his squad extend its school-record string of postseason appearances to six in a row and capped the season with the school s first-ever WNIT title. Littell served as OSU s associate head coach from 2005-2011. OSU s WNIT semifinal victory over San Diego resulted in Littell s 20th victory as head coach, making him the first coach in program history to achieve the feat during their first season. As associate head coach, he was instrumental in the Cowgirls producing the nation s largest turnaround and the program s first NCAA Tournament berth in more than a decade in 2007. He also helped OSU to NCAA berths in 2008 and 2010 as well as WNIT appearances in in 2009 and 2011. Prior to his move to the Division I level, Littell constructed a hall of fame career during his 14-year tenure at Seward County (Kan.) Community College. A 2009 inductee into the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Littell compiled an eye-popping set of numbers at his former post as the Lady Saints won 87 percent of their games, tallying a 418-61 ledger and producing nine Jayhawk West Conference titles. A nine-time conference coach of the year, Littell was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year in 2001. His 2002 squad produced three All-Americans, a perfect 38-0 mark and the school s first-ever national championship in any sport. He was named the NJCAA National Tournament Coach of the Year that same season. Under his watch, the Lady Saints recorded seven 30-win seasons. After finishing with a 14-16 record during his first season, Littell s squads never produced less than 25 wins in a season and averaged nearly 32 wins per year against less than four losses over the course of his final 13 seasons. From 1995-2004, the Lady Saints did not lose a home game, posting a 135-game winning streak inside the SCCC Activities Center to set the NJCAA national record. During the course of his final 13 seasons, Littell s squads won 99 percent of their home contests, producing an astounding record of 189-2. All told, his squads produced 11 All-Americans and five Region VI Most Valuable Players. Nine times, one of Littell s players was tabbed as the Jayhawk West Conference Most Valuable Player. Littell spent the 1990-91 season at Garden Plains High School, posting a 21-3 mark. LITTELL VS.
