Hendricks has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his last 18 starts dating to May 22 (1.63 ERA), the longest streak by any big league pitcher this season he is the fourth Cubs starting pitcher in the last 30 years to allow three earned runs or fewer in 18- straight starts, joining Jake Arrieta (29, 2015-16), Mike Morgan (27, 1992) and Frank Castillo (23, 1994-95). THIS IS STRIKING: Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta has gone 27-5 with a 2.00 ERA (57 ER/256.1 IP) in 38 starts since the beginning of last August he leads the majors in wins, is second in ERA (Clayton Kershaw, 1.68) and has allowed the lowest slugging percentage against of any pitcher in this span at.251 (Kershaw is next closest with a.257 slugging percentage against). CROSSING THE PLATE AT A RAPID RATE: Kris Bryant leads the majors with 111 runs scored this season, five ahead of Toronto s Josh Donaldson and 13 ahead of the next-closest N.L. player, Colorado s Nolan Arenado (98) with more than a month to go in the season, Bryant s 111 runs scored are already the most for any Cub since Derrek Lee scored 120 runs in the 2005 campaign. Bryant leads the N.L. and is second in the majors with a 7.3 WAR (Mike Trout leads with a 7.7 mark) Bryant is on pace for 43 homers, 110 RBI and 137 runs scored. Bryant s 36 homers this season are tied for the N.L. lead and are already the most by a Cub since Aramis Ramirez hit 38 in 2006. Bryant has totaled 62 homers in the first two seasons of his career, a franchise record and already the ninth most homers in major league history for a player s first two seasons (Mark Teixeira is eighth with 64 homers) Joe DiMaggio holds the record with 75 homers over his first two seasons. Bryant has joined Ernie Banks as the only two players in franchise history to reach 36 homers in either their first or second big league season Banks hit 44 homers in 1955 as a sophomore. FEELING HOT, HOT, HOT: Since Memorial Day weekend (his last 81 games starting May 29), Anthony Rizzo is batting.327 (102-for-312) with 28 doubles, 15 homers, 58 RBI, a.403 on-base percentage and a.580 slugging, good for a.983 OPS. Rizzo s.938 OPS is second among all N.L. first basemen, trailing only Cincinnati s Joey Votto (.954), while his 264 total bases are second only to Atlanta s Freddie Freeman (269). WHAT S THE DIFFERENCE?: Chicago s +222 run differential is by far the highest in the majors Washington is second at +141, 81 runs behind the Cubs the Cubs have allowed the fewest runs in the majors (450) while plating 672 runs, third-most in the majors behind Boston (724) and Colorado (709). 30 SOMETHING: Aroldis Chapman last evening notched his 12th save with the Cubs and his 32nd overall this season, reaching 30 saves for the fifth-straight season he is one of 10 pitchers to reach 30 saves this year since joining the Cubs on July 26, Chapman leads the majors with 12 saves, one ahead of Seattle s Edwin Diaz, Los Angeles Kenley Jansen and Atlanta s Jim Johnson. ADDISON MUSCLE: Addison Russell leads all National League shortstops with 86 RBI this season and trails only Houston s Carlos Correa (90 RBI) for most RBI by a shortstop in the majors overall, Addison is on pace for 24 homers and 106 RBI this year. Russell is the first Cubs shortstop to reach 80 RBI since Ernie Banks in 1961, when Mr. Cub played 104 games at shortstop in 1962, Banks played 149 games at first base overall, Russell is just the third Cubs shortstop in franchise history to reach 80 RBI, joining Banks (seven times) and Roy Smalley (85 RBI in 1950).
