The Sooners ripped off 85 field goal attempts while turning the ball over just eight times, matching a three-year season low. OU also connected on 56 percent of its 3-point attempts, its best mark since the fourth game of the 2007-08 season. Courtney Paris sets OU Scoring Record The second-ranked Sooners never trailed at home against Arizona State, winning the Preseason WNIT semifinal, 70-57. Courtney Paris scored 19 points and 20 rebounds for her 100th career double-double and passed Phylesha Whaley as OU s career scoring leader. More on Paris Scoring Efficiency Phylesha Whaley scored 2,187 points in 116 career games and an OU record 4,025 minutes played. Courtney Paris passed Whaley s mark with 2,189 points in 103 games. Paris 3,152 minutes played to reach the record -- 873 fewer than Whaley --wasn t even in the top 10 on OU s career charts. Rebound Record on Pace The two-time NCAA single-season rebounding leader also passed Mississippi Valley State s Patricia Hoskins for second on the NCAA career rebounding list. With 1,666 career rebounds, Paris needs 221 to match the NCAA record. Lucky Number Seven Whitney Hand became just the seventh true freshman under OU head coach Sherri Coale to start in her first collegiate game, joining LaNeisha Caufield, Stacey Dales, Caton Hill, Courtney Paris, Chelsi Welch and Phylesha Whaley. Oklahoma Women s Basketball Game Notes Game Notes 5 The Greatest Comeback in NCAA History Led by Nyeshia Stevenson s 21 second-half points, Oklahoma engineered the greatest comeback win in regulation in NCAA history against then-no. 9 California in the final game of the Basketball by the Bay Classic in San Jose, Calif., on Dec. 13. Oklahoma trailed 52-26 at the half and began a 10-0 run in the second half with 19:00 remaining. The Sooners also reeled a 28-0 run from 9:00 to 0:42 in which OU made 6-of-12 field goals and Cal missed 11 consecutive. Eleven of Stevenson s 21 points came during this run, including the tying, go-ahead and, eventually, winning field goals. OU outscored Cal in points off turnovers, 20-0, in the final period. The only team to win from a greater deficit was Texas State, which trailed UT-San Antonio 40-8 (32 points) with 2:18 remaining in the first half and won 73-71 in overtime on Feb. 18, 2006. Texas State s halftime deficit in that game was 27 points. All About the Ball Oklahoma, accustomed to playing at home with the Nike 3005 N-Touch Tournament ball, played three straight games with the Wilson Solution after starting with the game at Arkansas State Sunday, Dec. 7. Nine of the Big 12 teams use the Nike game ball, while Kansas and Nebraska use the Adidas The Superstar Pro. Texas A&M is the only Big 12 school to use the Wilson Solution. True to Point Danielle Robinson s improved efficiency at point guard as a sophomore is incredible considering she was, statistically, the top freshman point guard in the nation last season, leading her to Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. Robinson has 52 assists to 33 turnovers in 2008-09, a1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, and leads the team with 17 steals. Robinson has also been spreading the ball around well, counting assists to eight teammates. Her only exceptions, injured forward Carolyn Winchester, reserve point guards Rose Hammond and Jasmine Hartman and reserve center Abi Olajuwon. (AP) -- Courtney Paris scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half and added 12 rebounds to post her 101st straight double-double and help Oklahoma (No. 6 ESPN/USA Today, No. 5 AP) pull away for a 105-84 victory in the opening game of the Basketball By The Bay Classic on Friday night. Paris took just two shots in the first half, before making six of seven in the opening 9 minutes of the second half when the Sooners (7-2) broke the game open. The undersized Roadrunners (4-5) had no strategy that could contain Paris when she decided to dominate inside. Reserve Nyeshia Stevenson led the Sooners with 23 points, and Courtney s twin sister, Ashley, added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Danielle Robinson had nine points and 10 assists in a homecoming game for the San Jose native. Amanda Thompson scored 13 for the Sooners, who shot 58.9 percent for the game. Kepenikian led the Roadrunners with 22 points, giving her double figures in all nine games this season. Kelly Tarver scored 20 before going down with a right knee injury in the final minute. Last Time Out...Oklahoma 86, California 75 SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Reserve Nyeshia Stevenson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and gave Oklahoma (No. 6 ESPN/USA Today, No. 5 AP) its first lead of the game with 3:43 to play, and the Sooners made an improbable comeback from a 26-point halftime deficit to shock Cal (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP) 86-75 on Saturday night in the Basketball By The Bay Classic. Stevenson finished with 21 points and Courtney Paris had 18 points and 13 rebounds to extend her consecutive streak of double-doubles dating to her freshman season to 102 in Oklahoma s third straight victory since a loss to top-ranked Connecticut on Nov. 30. Ashley Walker scored in the paint and from the perimeter, finishing with 26 points and eight rebounds in the shocking collapse by Cal (8-2). Alexis Gray-Lawson had 16 points and nine assists and Lauren Greif added a season-high 18 points for the Golden Bears, who dominated the first half of this highly anticipated showdown between the top-10 programs and all their ties but couldn t do enough right to hold off a late Oklahoma charge. The Bears shot 64 percent in the first half only to blow it over the final 20 minutes by shooting 28 percent and committing 11 of their 18 turnovers. Danielle Robinson s three-point play with 6:22 left cut Cal s lead to 71-62 and single digits for the first time since the Bears led 11-4. Whitney Hand then hit a baseline 3-pointer with 4:57 to play to make it 71-67, Robinson hit a pair of free throws at 4:32 and Stevenson s steal in the backcourt and ensuing layin at 3:43 tied the game at 71. Stevenson then hit consecutive 3s. After 10 Games... The following is a comparison of some of the Sooners statisics following the first 10 games of last season and this season. Here s a quick look at the attendance records set recently by the program: 2002 - NCAA Championship Game Record Attendance: 29,619 2007 - Big 12 Championship Game Record Attendance: 12,413 2007 - Program record for home average: 10,437 2008 - State record for single-game women s attendance: 13,611 2008 - Program record No. 3 national attendance ranking: 10,254 2008 - Lloyd Noble Center three consecutive sellouts to finish season 2008 - Averaged 42 percent increase for opponent during road games Points in the Paris Coined by Nancy Lieberman after witnessing OU s dominating inside game against Georgia, Oklahoma opponents can forget about outscoring the Sooners in the paint thanks to the Paris twins. Last year, OU outscored opponents in the paint by an average of 41 to 22. Courtney supplied 15 per game (37 percent) in the paint while Ashley contributed seven points (18 percent) in the paint per game. Together the sisters averaged 22 points in the paint -- as much as the entire opposing roster and half of OU s total. OU has outscored opponents 446-234 in the paint in 2008-09. Twice as Nice The Paris twins have scored in double figures in the same game on 44 occasions, achieving the feat nine times in 2008-09 and 20 times in 2007-08 after doing so 11 times in 2006-07. Since Courtney has scored in double figures in all of her 110 career games, the 44 occasions account for every double-figure game of Ashley s career. The duo has posted a double-double in the same game 19 times (four as freshman, two as sophomores, five as juniors, eight as seniors). OU is 37-7 when both Parises reach double figure scoring and 14-5 when both achieve a double-double. Team Scoring on Record Pace If the season ended today, Oklahoma s 83.0 points per game would rank fourth in the program s history and highest since the 1984-85 season. Opponent Records Set Cal State Bakersfield s 13 3-pointers made versus the Sooners matched the opponent team record set by Iowa State on Jan. 29, 2005. Paris No. 2 on NCAA Rebounding Chart With 13 rebounds against California on Dec. 13, 2008, Courtney Paris passed Patricia Hoskins of Mississippi Valley State for second on the NCAA s career rebounding list. Only Drake s Wanda Ford leads Paris, who has 1,666 rebounds. Paris and Double-Figure Scoring Courtney Paris became Oklahoma s career leader in doublefigure scoring games with her performance against Cal State Bakersfield, passing LaNeisha Caufield. Caufield s record stood at 108 games and Paris, who has scored in double figures in every game of her career, is now at 110. Paris is also creeping on the NCAA record for most consecutive double-figure scoring games, which belongs to LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State (1999-2002) at 125, and most total double-figure scoring games, which belongs to Sophia Young of Baylor (2003-06), who had 130 in 139 career games. Thomas and Houston s Chandi Jones (2001-04), 114 games, are the only players in NCAA Division I history to score in double figures in every game of their careers. UCLA s Denise Curry scored in each of her 130 games between 1977 and 1981 when women s college basketball was under AIAW membership. Most Consecutive Double-Figure Scoring Games 125 LaToya Thomas, Mississippi State (1998-2002) Most Double-Figure Scoring Games 130 Sophia Young, Baylor (2003-06, 139 games) Scored in Double Figures Every Game of Career 130* Denise Curry, UCLA (1977-81) 125 LaToya Thomas, Mississippi State (1998-2002) 114 Chandi Jones, Houston (2000-04) *Pre-NCAA Record Consecutive Games With a Block Courtney Paris has recorded 22 consecutive games with at least one blocked shot. The last time Paris did not record a block was against Oklahoma State on Jan. 12, 2008. Paris longest streak with at least one block was 50 games, which started her freshman season against Oklahoma State on Jan. 16, 2006, and lasted until March 17, 2007, when she failed to block a shot against Jackie Stiles Missouri State team in a NCAA tournament first-round victory. Paris has had only four games in her career without a block. Block Party Courtney Paris is the first player in NCAA history to have at least 100 blocks in each of her first three seasons. She set the NCAA freshman single-season blocks record at 119 and then had 111 as a sophomore and 108 as a junior. Even Sandora Irvin, who is the NCAA s all-time blocks leader with 480, did not have over 100 her freshman season.

Oklahoma Women s Basketball Game Notes Courtney Paris Double-Double Notes 8 110 Games, 107 Double-Doubles Courtney Paris has collected 107 double-doubles in 110 career games. She has an active streak of 102 consecutive games with a double-double. The streak began with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort versus UCLA on Dec. 5, 2005, and will be 1,116 days old when OU plays Tulsa on Dec. 21, 2008. Officially a Record It has long been thought that Courtney Paris double-double numbers were NCAA records. Beginning with the 2008-09 season, those statements are now factual. The NCAA has made single-season and career double-doubles as well as singleseason and career consecutive double-doubles new records for women s basketball. Consider: Double Double-Double Paris has played nine games in which she has reached 20 points and 20 rebounds. Double-Double Animal Style Paris has 29 career games in which she has reached a double-double and recorded five or more blocks. The last was against Arizona State (Nov. 21) when she scored 19 points, 20 rebounds and six blocks. The Double-Double Half Paris has achieved a double-double 32 times in a single 20-minute period. She has reached the double-double figure by halftime on 13 occasions and has played 19 second halves alone in which she achieved a double-double. Paris had 10 doubledouble halves as a freshman, 14 as a sophomore, six as a junior and two as a senior. Paris career high for points in a half is 23 (Michigan State, Dec. 21, 2005; New Mexico, Dec. 30, 2006; and Oklahoma State, Feb. 4, 2007) and rebounds in a half is 18 (Texas Tech, Feb. 27, 2008). Comparing to Counterparts Beginning with the 2008-09 season, the NCAA officially recognized double-double records for women s basketball and, as was widely believed, Courtney Paris has owned them for quite some time. Even when comparing her game to the men s game, the records speak for themselves. The longest men s double-double streak was 40 games by North Carolina s Billy Cunningham, which coincidentally began on the same day (Dec. 5), 43 years prior to Paris streak. The most career double-doubles by the men belongs to Tim Duncan, who recorded 87 in his four seasons at Wake Forest (1994-97). The top five men s records are below. In 2007-08, Paris dominated with averages of 19 points, 15 rebounds and 3.5 blocks. She led the conference in rebounding and was second in scoring. Nationally, Paris was the only player to rank in the top 50 in more than three of the eight major statistical categories -- she ranked in the top 26 of four. BIG 12 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR Danielle Robinson was the league s choice for freshman the year. Her blinding speed and quickness left a serious impression on opposing coaches. As such, she was the only freshman named to the Big 12 s All-Defensive Team. ASHLEY PARIS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT Ashley Paris, a journalism major, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 First Team. To qualify, canididates must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA or better and at least one year of academic residency. Coale Most Fun to Watch OU head coach Sherri Coale was voted by members of the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as the Most Fun to Watch head coach in the nation. No. 3 Nationally in Home Attendance Oklahoma was a national leader in home attendance once again in 2008. After 13 home games, OU s per game attendance average was 10,254, No. 3 in the nation for average home game attendance. The top two teams -- Tennessee and Connecticut -- have larger home seating capacities than OU s arena. Milestones 1,000th Game in Sooner History Oklahoma started its women s basketball program for the 1974-75 season and played its 1,000th game in the 2008-09 season opener. OU s all-time record is 586-423 (.581). Coale s 250th Victory Sherri Coale earned her 250th victory in her 12th year as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners defeated Texas A&M, 68-56, on Tuesday, Feb. 12, for the milestone win. Coale s is OU s and the Big 12 s all-time leader in coaching victories and winning percentage. Paris Passes 2,000 With her sixth point against Oklahoma State, Sunday, Feb. 23, Courtney Paris reached 2,000 career points quicker than any player in Big 12 or Oklahoma history. Paris was playing her 94th game. Paris finished the game with 18 points to boost her career total to 2,012. Paris 32nd Big 12 Record If passing 2,000 career points faster than any other player in Big 12 history wasn t enough, Courtney Paris literally grabbed her second Big 12 record in the game against Oklahoma State (Feb. 23). Paris grabbed a career high 11 offensive boards to overtake Baylor s Sophia Young (489, 2003-06) as the Big 12 career offensive rebounds leader. Third Consecutive 20-Win Season Oklahoma captured its third consecutive 20-win season and 13th in the program s history with is victory against Oklahoma State on Feb. 23. ASHLEY AND COURTNEY HIT THE CENTURY MARK Both Ashley and Courtney Paris will played their 100th collegiate game when the Sooners met Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Courtney has started all but one, after requesting to sit on senior night as a freshman, and has scored in double figures in all of them. Notable Numbers The Circus Comes to Town When Connecticut visited Norman, Okla., to play the Sooners during the 1999-2000 season, a then-record crowd of 10,713 attended the game at the Lloyd Noble Center. OU head coach Sherri Coale likened the experience to the circus coming to town. It seems that Oklahoma now has its own three rings. A visit by the Sooners in 2007-08 boosted its opponent s attendance by 42 percent over its season average. Earning Sole Possession Oklahoma s Sherri Coale leads Iowa State s Bill Fennelly for most regular-season Big 12 Conference coaching victories with 121. Coale, Fennelly and former Texas head coach Jody Conradt had equal 110-66 records entering OU s Big 12 opener against Iowa State, which the Sooners won 67-64. Oklahoma went 11-5 in the Big 12 this season while Iowa State was 7-9.
