President s Message Lookin Back?

Lookin Back? President s Message 2013 is behind us and the Chatuge Gun Club is another year older. 2013 saw the membership of the Club go to 746 in August and in this year the Club accomplished several milestones for your enjoyment and convenience. One hundred and six matches of various forms were presented for the enjoyment of the members and guests. These events were provided at no cost to the competitor with the exception of a nominal fee for trap events. Hats off to the dedicated Match Directors that present these events for your enjoyment. A benefit trap shoot was presented for the Georgia Sheriff s Youth Homes again this year producing approximately $6,000. Two Basic Pistol workshops were presented to the general public, one in May and one in October and they introduced 88 novice shooters to the sport. NRA Women on Target clinics were scheduled and 30 Ladies enjoyed the June clinic but the November clinic was canceled due to weather. Cold Firing Line indicator lights were installed to enhance safety while the firing line is cold and people are downrange. A new gate with electronic proximity-card keys was installed to save replacing over $1500 in keys along with the aggravation of distributing them each year. We need to pat ourselves on the back a little for the way the members continue to keep the range clean and safe. It takes a little effort on everyone s part and for that we thank you. If you wish to pay your dues for 2014 you may mail a check for $36 to the Club PO box and we will mail a new electronic key to you. Beat the rush but we still need you at the 2014 Annual meeting in April to win a gun and vote on new/old Officers for the New Year. With that being said, let me thank the other members of your Board of Directors of the Chatuge Gun Club. They have been a real team managing the Club with the shooter s interest and safety foremost. Seems like only yesterday (April 1996), I began as president of this body along with the two other Old Guard members of the board from that time John Case and Frank Alexander. Membership went from 61 to what we have today; and believe it or not, one can still go to the range and have a space to shoot even with the scheduled activities. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $30.000 in improvements, in addition to the everyday operation expenses, have been invested in the facility; and with the exception of the $10 surcharge voted in 2001, the dues still are $25. Finally, I plan to step down next year and cool my heels while a new Prez has the opportunity to bask in the fame and notoriety of office with all the esteem and rewards thereof. He will also be custodian of the jokes (the best part of the job). If you are interested in this or any other office in the Club, the chairman of the Nominating Committee is Nelson Fagan. Contact him with your request. Good Shooting! Regards, Ed Jones, President Chatuge Gun Club, Inc
