MAY 14 Newsletter Page 2 P R E S I D E N T S M E S S A G E Are you ready for some golf? I hope so because May is a month full of golf outings, events and our first big tournament, the Maumelle Country Four-Ball. If you haven t signed up for the Four-Ball yet, now is the time. One really shouldn t miss this great weekend of golf, friends and fun. Again I want to mention contributions made by our loyal members. I m sure you noticed how much better the cart paths drive now that the high spots, bumps and jumps are gone. A big thank you to Chris Albright for leading that project and another thank you to the members that donated the funds to make it possible. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn t also acknowledge the team of volunteers that shoveled and hauled debris from the asphalt grinding. May their backs heal quickly from the abuse. We also thank Randy Breece for providing the back-hoe and back-hoe operator for the MGA s renovation of a 15 th Hole fairway bunker. Thanks to their efforts we have a better chance of getting out of that sinister trap. Wow, what a great job the Maumelle Women s Golf Association did in sponsoring and running the Susan G. Komen Rally for a Cure Golf Tournament in memory of Jeany Crawford. Golfers were everywhere, silent auction items overflowed the lobby and an excited buzz permeated the entire event. A big thanks to Lynette Pipkins and Sandy Carpenter for planning and organizing this worthy event. Happy Hour Tues. Fri 5-7pm 10% Off Drinks Wed. Night Family Night Kids Eat Free w/ Adult Entrée On the bummer side of the coin, we ve received numerous complaints about cigarette butts and cigar butts littering our beautiful golf course. One could say that we should not complain, but just pick up the cigarette butts ourselves and place them in a trash can. But who wants to pick up someone else s trash, especially their cigarette butt?? No one. So, if you are a smoker, please respect our course and dispose of your cigar and cigarette butts properly. And for all the non-smokers that play in groups with smokers, please ensure that the trash is not coming from your group. The Junior Golf program is a program that plays directly into Maumelle Country s future success. Without our children and your children s friends playing golf, in the future there will fewer and fewer adult golfers in our area. Our needs for programs like the Junior Golf and First Tee to succeed so that the number of golfers in the state increases instead of decreasing. The math is simple; not many golfers equals not many MCC members. Plus it s such a joy in watching these young golfers learn golf from teachers like our Golf Professional, Cary Maddox. Please do what you can to encourage young people within your sphere of influence to participate in the Junior Golf Program. We will be needing these young golfers 10-15 years from now to join our. Thank you for being a member of our and best wishes for a month full of great golf and good food at the. Please be sure to check out the golf calendar regularly to view club events as well as outside events we might have scheduled. You may check the calendar on the website (www.maumellecc.com) under the golf tab. Now that the grass is growing we will need to close the practice range at 6pm on Sundays. This will allow us to get all the balls picked so the grounds crew can mow on Mondays. Thank you for understanding. SIGN UP NOW!!! We are seeing more activity in the house and on the course. Thanks to everyone that came out this last month and used the facilities. We had a great month and I am seeing tons of new faces around here. It looks as though many of the newer members are in it to win it. I saw new families on Easter in the ballroom, and we are seeing many of the newer members using the restaurant for lunch and dinner also. Please take a moment when you see a new face to stop and talk to them and welcome them to the friendliest club in central Arkansas. As we plan the events for the month of May, it looks like it is shaping up to be very busy around here. But, that s what we do! All summer long we plan on having things to look forward to keep you close to home and coming back. Mid-Month I am calling all ladies! It s time for Bingo again. But here s the kicker. I want to have a meeting before we get started and I want everyone to bring your best ideas for events here at the club for the next few months. I need all of the suggestions I can get. Lots of people come to me all of the time with great ideas, so now is the time for us to brain storm and get the ball rolling on some of these ideas. During the meeting we will eat a special dinner prepared by Chef and afterwards we will play BINGO and have a few drinks (if you are so inclined). Don t forget Mother s Day is on the 11 th and we will have a great spread for everyone that wants to save Mom all of the work. We finish off the month with the MCC Four Ball Tournament and the last weekend is the Mixed Invitational weekend. I almost forgot! Memorial Day weekend the pool opens up and we will have a Family Celebration at Poolside with burgers and dogs and all the fixins that Monday. We will have games, balloons and other events to keep the kids rolling. DJ Hollywood will be back with music that everyone will enjoy. Don t miss it. It s a blast. Friends are also invited to the day at the pool. Let s show our friends how it s done at MCC! As a matter of fact, your friends are always welcome here at Maumelle Country. That s the way we grow. Come show off your club. Bill Wallace House Manager

Now we are moving into tournament season and mowing season. This means we are busy! It is a great time of year. During the spring rain showers and thunderstorms are fairly common. Sometimes after these rains we have to ask the membership to play2996 Cart Path Only, when this is the case please remain on the pavement. Driving in the rough does just as much or more damage as driving in the fairways so please remember to stay Cart Path Only when we post the signs. Please remember to check my blog site for course updates! www.mccturfcare.blogspot.com Thank you and have a great round! Jason Baker Golf Course Superintendent
