Dear Half Marathon Athlete, The Mohawk Hudson River Half Marathon on October 7th is quickly approaching! We re so glad you will be joining the race and hope your race experience is exceptional. Below is some important information about the race. ICE (In Case of Emergency) Your safety is extremely important to us. In an effort to protect our athletes, we have partnered with ICE.events. ICE.events (In Case of Emergency) is a system connecting your bib number to your identification, medical information and emergency contacts. You will be receiving an email from ICE.events a few days before the race, so please take a few minutes to read their email and follow the instructions to update your record before the event. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 6:45 AM 7:00 AM Buses leave for start Broadway at Maiden Lane, Albany, NY 8:20 AM Instructions to Runners/Walkers Start Line, Colonie Town Park, 71 Schermerhorn Rd, Cohoes, NY 8:30 AM Start of Race Start Line, Colonie Town Park, 71 Schermerhorn Rd., Cohoes, NY 10:00 AM Awards Ceremony Top 3 Men and Women 12:30 PM Return bus leaves for Colonie Town Park Albany Riverfront Park at Corning Preserve, Albany, NY Albany Riverfront Park at Corning Preserve, Albany, NY 2:00 PM Course officially closes TO THE START: BUSES: ALL buses leave for the start between 6:45 AM and 7 AM from Broadway at Maiden Lane in downtown Albany, about two blocks from the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The last bus will leave at 7 AM. There is no late bus. Participants should line up for the bus on Maiden Lane between North Pearl Street and Broadway. Please do NOT get on the buses until directed to do so by race volunteers. Race volunteers will direct runners/walkers to the appropriate buses. BUSES: ALL buses leave for the start between 6:45 AM and 7 AM from Broadway at Maiden Lane in downtown Albany, about two blocks from the Hotel Albany. The last bus will leave at 7 AM. There is no late bus. Participants should line up for the bus on Maiden Lane between North Pearl Street and Broadway. Please do NOT get on the buses until directed to do so by race volunteers. Race volunteers will direct runners/walkers to the appropriate buses. PARKING: Parking is available for $5 for the day at the Columbia Street Garage, which is located near the bus staging area and the finish line. Directions to the garage can be found at www.mohawkhudsonmarathon.com, click on Race Info and Parking and Directions. Please do NOT park or be dropped off on Broadway in Albany between State and Columbia Streets, as this is where the buses will be staged. Drop offs can be made at the Hotel Albany or on North Pearl Street at Maiden Lane. If you are driving to the start: Parking at Colonie Town Park is extremely limited so plan to arrive early. There will be a runner drop off area at the entrance to the park. NO parking is allowed on Schermerhorn Road. Those parked illegally will be ticketed and 2 of 5

towed by the Colonie Police. AT THE START: BAGGAGE: A baggage bus will be at Colonie Town Park to deliver checked bags to the Finish area. Put your bib number on the tag that will be provided with your race packet and attach it securely to your checked bag. BIBS and TIMING CHIPS: Your race bib must be worn on the front of your outer-most layer of clothing and clearly visible at all times during the race. Please fill out the emergency contact/medical information on the back of the bib. The race will be timed by ARE Event Productions using the ChronoTrack B-Tag. This is a small and flat chip that comes affixed to the back of your bib. Your bib must not be altered in any way. Do not flatten, bend, or crease your bib. These chips do not get returned, making for a smooth and easy finishing process. START LINE: Runners and walkers should line up at the start according to estimated finish time faster times toward the front. ON THE COURSE: > A police motorcycle escort will lead the race. There will be course marshals at intersections and medical aid volunteers on bicycles who will patrol the course. Report any emergencies to the course bikers, course marshals, or water stop captains. > Roads are NOT closed to vehicular traffic and the bike path is open for public use. Please obey all instructions of course officials. Run on the left side of the road facing traffic, unless instructed otherwise by the police. > Mile markers are at every mile and 5k point. > All turns are marked in orange paint on the pavement. > The course will cross railroad tracks between mile 4 and 5. Should a train arrive at the crossing during the race, runners/walkers will be stopped at the crossing by race officials. Please obey the instructions of rail and race officials. If you are stopped at the crossing, your time will be recorded by a timing mat at the crossing and your finish time will be adjusted accordingly. > Drink fluids early and often. There are 7 aid stations supplied with water and Gatorade located about every 2 miles. GU is available at the water station at mile 4.6 (Alexander Park in Cohoes). > The course closes 5 hours and 30 minutes after the start of the race (2 PM). > Headphones are prohibited for your safety and the safety of other participants. 3 of 5

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE: > There are medically-trained bicyclists patrolling the bike path and four first aid stations at the water stops at miles 1.3, 4.6, 8.2, and 10.3. All can provide basic first aid and triage level of medical care needed. > If emergency medical assistance is needed on the course, please notify a race bicyclist, a course marshal or a water stop captain. An ambulance will be called for medical emergencies. > Those who are not able to complete the race distance should notify a race bicyclist, course marshal or water-stop captain. A sag vehicle will follow the race and is available to transport participants to the finish area. AT THE FINISH: > A Medical Tent will be at the finish line. > Changing tents and refreshments for athletes are available at the Albany Riverfront Park finish area. > Coffee and breakfast/lunch items are available for family and friends at the Riverfront Bar and Grill, located on the bike path approximately ¼ mile before the finish line. > Massages will be available from 11 am to 2 pm compliments of the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy. > An awards ceremony for the top three male and female finishers will be held at 10:00 a.m. Age group winners will be met at the finish line and will be escorted to the awards area to pick up their award. > Each finisher receives a medal. A Finishers Certificate will be available at www.mohawkhudsonmarathon.com after October 23, 2012. > The bus returning to the Start area at Colonie Town Park will leave at 12:30 p.m. HAVE A GREAT RACE!
