January 2007 ISSUE Report from the President I hope you all had a wonderful holiday full of all the things that make cowboys and cowgirls happy! Now that 2007 has officially started, its time for to get back in action! Kicking off the rodeo year we have the IGRA University rodeo school in Phoenix. This event is open to all IGRA members and it s a great way to learn rough stock and camp events. The school takes place January 11 and 12 and kicks off Road Runner Regional Rodeo, which takes place that weekend. For more information regarding the rodeo school, please visit the IGRA website at www.igra. com and click on the appropriate link under Upcoming Events. Next up, is proud to host IGRA University February 23-25 Academy of Rodeo Arts in Las Vegas at the Tuscany Hotel and Horseman s Park. This is going to be a great event for IGRA and. We expect a couple of hundred of IGRA s best and brightest to come learn about rodeo production, royalty, and association development. We are still in need of vans or cars for transporting IGRA students to the Horseman s Park for Royalty Horse- Brian Rogers manship 101 and arena crew training on Saturday. If you have any ideas or if you can volunteer during the weekend, please contact our University Chancellor, Brian Rogers at bhr9@cox.net. We are also seeking to borrow video projectors for use in the classrooms. We will need six projectors and want to avoid the cost of renting. The Rodeo Planning Committee will also kick into high gear early next year to plan and stage our 11th Annual BigHorn Rodeo, which will take place September 21-23, 2007. The Board of Directors is seeking qualified candidates for Rodeo Director and assistant positions at this time. We are excited to be returning to the Tuscany in 2007 and have big plans for the evening parties there. On the subject of business, has two positions open for Member-at- Large. If you are interested in serving the association by serving on its board, please contact me and let me know of your interest. Hopefully you have all received your membership renewal notice in the mail. Please take a moment to complete your membership renewal and get that back to us. Until then Save a Cowboy. $7000 presented to The Center from BigHorn Rodeo 2006 proceeds In addition, the Nevada Aids Project and Street Teens each received $1,400 each, which was raised by Royalty candidates Tom Coleman and Darren Wernette! Important Message from the Membership Committee Hi, everyone. This is Winsor and Dave from the membership committee. By now you should have received your membership renewal notice by mail. Royalty Activities Tom Coleman, Mr. 2007 Talk about jumping in with both feet first What a whirlwind month it has been. First off, the pageant was enjoyable, with the step down numbers having special meaning for a lot of people. All the kudos and everything went just fine. Next time, though, give Ken Wells a smaller piece of paper to write his thank you s on. Darren and I had a great time and look forward to a fun and challenging year. We both had a busy December with the charity fundraiser for, and making our appearances at the Court s Coronation with the opportunity to be a part of the new Emperor s number. We also attended the Winged Dragon Society and the Court shows at Las Vegas as part of their 10 Days of Christmas. The show put on by Mike Windsor for Toys for Kids at the Spotlight was a great success and we all should thank Mike for his hard work and a great time. What a worthy cause. Melissa did a holiday show at Badlands, which I hear was quite a success. Sorry Melissa--I had to work. Then there was the wreath auction and show at. Together the events raised almost $2,000 for and BigHorn Rodeo. What a way to start the year! In January, Darren and I, and a few tag-alongs, will be headed to Phoenix for the AGRA Rodeo Runner Region Rodeo and a good time. It looks like we may be performing at the rodeo and also at Phoenix on Monday as part of the Rodeo Wrap Up. This is our first rodeo as royalty so we are going to put our best foot forward to represent there. We also have a few shows coming up in January, one on the second Saturday, after the general membership meeting, and also the Country Fair hosted by Melissa at Badlands Saloon. So get your cowboy butts out there and support these events. Melissa is doing a super job, even after stepping down as Miss 2006. Also, plan ahead and don t forget the IGRA University in February. Yours truly and Darren will be there both as students and as volunteers. Darren and I would like to ask all the members, AND I DO MEAN ALL THE MEMBERS, to get out and support these events. We have a rodeo to plan and would like to be out of the chute, off and running. We will be filling you in here for the next newsletter what is in store for us as far as traveling goes. Hope you all had a great holiday and we wish you the best in the new year ahead, and a successful fundraising year for!
