Six more gymnasts will qualify based on a points system established by the Men's Program Committee. The Men's Program Committee will select the remaining two gymnasts.a new skills challenge has been added to the competition.the event provides an opportunity for gymnasts to show off new skills or sequences they have developed and a glimpse of the future of gymnastics. SPRING SIDELINED Illini All-American and Senior National Team member Justin Spring dislocated the patella in his left knee against Ohio State on Jan. 28. While Illinois was on its fourth rotation, Spring landed short on his vault resulting in the patellar subluxation which may keep him out of the lineup for up to three weeks. FIGHTING ILLINI MEN S GYMNASTICS UP NEXT The Illini return to the friendly confines of Huff Hall for a double-dual meet alongside the Illini women next weekend.the No. 3 men will take on the No. 15 Temple, while the No. 28 UI women host No. 7 Missouri. The meet will begin at 7 p.m., Feb. 11. PUMMER POWER The Illini have counted heavily on senior Adam Pummer to lead them on five events (FX, PH,VT, PB, HB).The Orange and Blue co-captain has been a consistent performer for Illinois throughout his college career. Pummer followed up his three first place finishes (FX, PH, HB) against Minnesota with four top-three finishes (FX,VT, PB, HB) against Ohio State. In addition, Pummer raised his career event titles to 28 with first place showings on floor exercise and vault versus the Buckeyes. HAAGENSEN HEATING UP Sophomore Wes Haagensen was the only Illini to took home an event title at the season opening Windy City Invite. Haagensen, who placed second in the all-around at last year's Windy City Invite tied for first place on vault with a score of 9.400, besting his previous career-high vault of 9.300. Haagensen has seen limited action as he is still trying to regain his top form after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer. Haagensen, Illinois' all-around school record holder (55.950) has five top-three finishes already this season. In addition to his vault title at the Windy City Invite, he claimed the pommel horse title against Minnesota and placed second and third on floor exercise and vault, respectively. Haagensen was just as effective against the Buckeye's, claiming second place on floor exercise and forth place on high bar. WATCH THE ILLINI AT HOME For the second straight year fightingillini.com will feature live streaming video of all Illinois home gymnastics meets as part of Illinois' All-Access package ($6.95/month).
