(Parking charges from the NRW may apply before 17:00) SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 07:30-08:30 Classic and legend REGISTRATION TIMES: SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 14:00-17:00 (Parking charges from the NRW may apply before 17:00) SUNDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER 07:00-08:30 - (Legend Athletes will not be able to register after 08:00) croeso/welcome TO THE SANDMAN TRIATHLON. We would encourage those who can to register the day before your event to avoid a rush on the morning of your race. REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE OPEN WHILST THE SPRINT AND DUATHLON RACES ARE ON. membership Unless you are an affiliated member of your home country s Federation you must purchase a Day License Membership at registration. It s valid on the day of your competition and cannot be transferred. Please bring a cheque or the correct change of 5 to buy your membership at registration. If you are an affiliated member of the British Triathlon Federation or your home country s federation please present your annual membership ID to our team at registration when you pick up your goodie bag.

GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION Junior Races There will be a number of junior races taking place. All information on the courses, times and registration can be found further on in this document. The First Junior Race will take place at 09:25 ALL JUNIORS MUST BE IN BEFORE THE ROAD CLOSURE AT 08:00 OR MUST PARK OFFSITE and allow time to get to the start. Event Village This will be located in the main Newborough Forest car park with Transition. It is a beautiful location where the whole family can enjoy all of the race action along with live commentary, and local hot and cold food and drink sellers. Facilities There will be ample toilets and portaloos at the event village, as well as cold, fresh water showers outside the main NRW Toilet Block. Free bike check We are offering a fantastic free bike check facility. So, bring your bike down during registration on Friday between 17:00-20:00 or Saturday between 14:00 and 17:00. Please note bike check will not be available the morning of the races. Event Photography Photos will be available post race via the race report and on the event website. Photos are provided by Mel Parry Event Photography and Sport Pictures Cymru and are very reasonably priced. Event T-shirts If you have ordered a Sandman T-Shirt or Adventure Series Hoody you can pick it up at the Always Aim High Store by presenting your race number. If you haven t ordered one already there will be a limited supply for sale. Savage and Legend competitors will get their free finishers T-shirt as they cross the finish line on Sunday. All Pre-Ordered Merchandise must be collected from the Event Store and cannot be posted after the event. Live race tracker - The Superfeet Sandman Live Results system and tracker is now available on the website. Participants, Family & Friends can all use the Live Results to share in the fun. Sign Up now to have race progress of yourself, family and/or friends posted directly to your Facebook or Twitter feeds! On race day, spectators can get the status of runners in real-time using the Participant Tracker & Leaderboard. Details such as time, pace, and estimated finish will be instantly available! Just type in the name of the athlete you want to track link it to your Facebook or Twitter - it s as simple as that :) You can sign up on the Always Aim High Events Sandman Website Sports massage Dewi and his team at Vibe Fitness will be providing post race massage in the event village. Littering Any person found littering will be immediately disqualified from the event and banned from all Always Aim High Events. Please respect the beautiful location you are running and riding in and dispose of any gels or bottles responsibly. You may dispose of your gel wrappers at the designated litter points with event marshals along the route, and/or at the feed stations. Prize Giving Saturday: 12:15 - The Welsh Triathlon Super Series Championship prize giving will be followed immediately by the Superfeet Sandman Sprint, Duathlon, and Kids Race prize giving in the Event Village (approximate time subject to change on the day). Sunday: 15:00 - Legend, Classic and Savage in the Event Village (approximate time subject to change on the day). The SUUNTO Adventure Triathlon Series 2018 Prize ceremonies will take place shortly after each Distance ceremony and will be awarded to the Top 3 Athletes who have competed in all three series events of the same distance in 2018. If you think you re a winner make sure you re there to receive your prize, stand on the podium and receive a huge Welsh cheer! If you re not a winner, come and give them a cheer with us. Prizes must be collected on the day and cannot be posted. race day emergency contact If you need to speak to someone urgently on race day about the race, please call 07527 034 308 compulsory kit There will be no compulsory kit for any of the Superfeet Sandman Triathlon distances. We would advise that you wear trail shoes with good aggressive grip. Road Closure The toll road and vehicular access to the on site car parks will close at 08:00 on both saturday and sunday. All competitors and spectators will need to be in the car parks before the road closes. The toll road will re-open at approximately 11:15 On saturday and 14:00 on sunday. If you wish to be off site before 11:15 on saturday or 14:00 on sunday you will need to park off site - please see further in the document. Race timing The race will be timed using TDL services electronic timing systems. It is compulsory for all competitors to wear their timing chip, failure to do so will result in you not being classified in the race results.

car parking Your Race Day car parking has been included in your entry fee. There is strictly NO OVERNIGHT Parking. NRW Wardens will be checking all vehicles in the car park. Parking is extremely limited, so please park sensibly and follow instructions at all times. PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME TO PARK IN THE MORNING. Please note the toll road and vehicular access to the on site car parks will STRICTLY close at 08:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. ALL competitors and spectators will need to be in the car parks before the road closes. THE TOLL ROAD WILL RE-OPEN AT APPROXIMATELY 11:15 ON SATURDAY AND 14:00 ON SUNDAY. If you wish to be off site before 11:15 on Saturday or 14:00 on Sunday you will need to park off site as seen in the diagram below. This parking is provided at the Marram Grass Community football field. Please note, this will require you to cycle in, so please allow time for this. The Cycle and 5.5km Run routes are the same as the Sprint distance Triathlon. All routes will be clearly signposted and marshals will be located along the routes as well. On the Cycle Route follow signs for the Sprint.

Drink stations Located in Transition, at miles 20.5 and 43.5 on the bike route and at miles 3.3/9.4 on the run lap. We are making every effort to minimise our impact on the environment. Please note we do not give out single use plastic water bottles or cups at our cycle feedstations. There will be barrels for you to fill your water bottles up from at all feedstations. There will be limited paper cups on the transition and run feedstations but we urge you to refill your own water bottle. cut off times 09:35 - Legend Swimmers must be out of the water. 09:40 - Legend Cyclists must be out of T1 to continue onto the cycle stage. 10:40 - Bike course cut off at mile 11: Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. After this time All Legend cyclists will be directed onto the Classic Bike Route. 14:00 - Legend Runners must be out of T2 (bike to run) to go onto the run stage. 15:30 - Lap 2 cut off. After this time Legend competitors will not be allowed to complete a 2nd run lap. Finish Line Timing will finish at 17:00 Please respect these cut off times in the interests of your safety and the safety of our volunteers out on the bike course and on the run. race day - Classic triathlon sunday 07:00-08:30 - Registration 07:00-08:45 - Transition Please be aware that transition must be clear of all competitors (except team members awaiting their relay mate) by 08:45 You may only rack your equipment in the transition area on the morning of your race. race day - junior races Registration You will need to register before your race to get your race pack and any additional details. All route maps will be available at registration. We would encourage those who can to register the day before your event to avoid a rush on the morning of your race. You will receive the same race pack as the adults race - please see further in the document for information. Registration can be done on Friday 21st September in the afternoon between 5pm and 8pm at the event village. You can also register on Saturday, see below. Saturday 07:30-08:30 - Registration 07:30-08:45 - Transition Briefing There will be a compulsory safety brief 15 minutes before the start of each Junior Race. This will take place at the race start on the Beach. Please follow To The Start signs Please be there in good time ready, and wearing your chosen swimming equipment when you arrive for the briefing. make sure you have racked your equipment in transition already. Race start Times 09:25 - Tristars 3 & Youth Race - Juniors Age 13-14 & 15-16- 300m Swim, 5.6km Bike, 2.4km Run - White Bibs, White Hats 10:15 - Tristars 2 - Juniors Age 11-12 - 200m Swim, 3.6k Bike, 1.2km Run -White Bibs, Blue Hats 10:45 - Tristars 1 - Juniors Age 9-10 -150m Swim, 1.6km Bike, 800m Run - White Bibs, Orange Hats 11:15 - Tristars Start - Juniors Age 8-50m Swim, 900m Bike, 500m Run -White Bibs, Pink Hats Transition must be clear of all bikes after each race. Please use the side entrance to Transition. Swim Please note that wetsuits will be compulsory this year due to the sea temperature. You will need to wear a wetsuit to be allowed to race. Following the race briefing you will be directed to a holding pen. From here you will go over the Swim Start timing mat to be counted into the water. You cannot access the water without going over this timing mat. The course will be set close to the shore in relatively shallow water to ensure competitor safety. The course is around the outside of marker buoys. Canoes and Lifeguards will be present in the water. If you are struggling, call a lifeguard or canoeist or raise one arm to ask for assistance There is a run to transition over sand so you may choose to take running or bike shoes on to the beach. These may be left with a parent, guardian or friend. Bike Route Bikes must have suitable off road tyres. Mountain Bikes or Cyclo cross bikes are recommended due to the terrain. Remember to ride safely please note there are bumps, sand, tree roots and small stones and holes. Follow the course - Only turn if you see an arrow/marker or if a marshal tells you to. Marshals will whistle or warn you if a faster cyclist is passing, please move over to left side of track to let them past. No throwing of bikes You may be disqualified for endangering other competitors Run route Follow the marked run course out of transition Only turn if you see an arrow/marker or if a marshal tells you to do so. If you hear a marshal whistle, please move to the left of the track to let a faster competitor overtake. Finish is under the same finish arch as the adult Sandman race. Transition STRICTLY No parents in transition please. You may help your child from outside of transition. There will be volunteers in transition to assist with putting bikes on & off racks or to assist with helmet straps etc. Parents may assist with wetsuits, shoes and helmets etc between the beach and transition area. Helmets must be fastened before bikes are taken from the racks. No bikes to be ridden before you cross the Mount/Dismount Line. Finish and Prize Giving Follow the course to the finish arch. When you cross the line, put hour hands above your head and smile for the cameras. You ll receive your medal. Be proud of your performance Well Done! The top 3 boys and girls over the line in each race will receive a prize in the prize giving ceremony at 12:15. If during any stage of the race you cannot continue (tiredness, bike problems or injuries) please make your way to the nearest race marshal or to the transition area and give in your race number so that we know you are safe. Important All kit must be removed from transition after your race. You will have to enter and exit through the side entrance to Transition as other Junior races will be going ahead. Race Numbers You will receive a tri belt that you can attach your number to. Attach your number securely to the belt and make it visible for bike and run legs showing to the back on the bike leg and to the front on the run. Drink stations There are no drink stations on the Bike or Run routes. Please make sure you fill up your water bottles in Transition. We are making every effort to minimise our impact on the environment. Please note we do not give out single use plastic water bottles or cups at our cycle feedstations. There will be barrels for you to fill your water bottles up from at all feedstations. There will be limited paper cups on the transition and run feedstations but we urge you to refill your own water bottle.

further info for racing race pack At registration you will pick up your race pack which includes: Timing chip secured to your ankle with the Velcro strap provided and to be returned to the organisers at the finish line (Savage competitors MUST ensure they hold on to their tag following the sprint as they will use the same tag for the full). Please, please make sure you return your timing chip otherwise there is a 10 charge for lost chips. Race number bib Worn on the back for the bike section and on the front for run section, a tri race belt facilitates this. Teams and Savage Competitors are provided with 2 bibs. We strongly advise that you do not wear your bib under your wetsuit for the swim. Bike Flag Peel the backing and secure to your bike seat post. Race number tattoo Follow the printed instructions and place on the right upper arm and right outer calf. Teams are provided with 2 tattoos one for the cyclist and one for the runner ( to be placed on the right outer calf). Transition security wristband Must be worn at all times to access transition; before, during and after the race. Colour coded swim hat see wave start times for more details. It is at the Race Organisers discretion that a competitor should be allowed to continue at any stage should it be deemed unsafe for the competitor to do so. Transition Security All competitors will be issued with a race wristband, which must be worn for you to be allowed access to the transition area. Please respect this in the interest of the safety and security of your equipment. You will also have your bike checked against your race number on entry and exit of transition. Leaving Transition If you wish to leave transition whilst the race is going ahead, you will be permitted to do so, but only through the official side entrance that will be manned by a member of our transition team. You will not be permitted to get your car out of the main car park prior to the times given above. Transition Rules In accordance with British Triathlon Rules (Rule 7.1.c) boxes are not allowed in transition, only a small soft-sided bag or rucksack can remain. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that any bag used in transition does not impede other competitors, if it is found to be in the way it will be removed to the bag store. There will be an area provided within transition to leave your bags and boxes, however, these will be left at your own risk. accessing the swim start Please follow signs to The Swim Start. Exit from Transition through the side entrance and follow directions from marshals and signage. You will access the beach using the Boardwalk to the right of the event village. Swim course The swim is set in the sea next to the stunning Llanddwyn Beach with views of Snowdonia. A course will be set on the day, A map of the course will be on display at the registration desk. The swim course will be clearly marked with large round dumpy buoys. In line with British Triathlon Rules Wetsuits are compulsory for the swim if the water temperature is below 14degrees. Please bring wetsuits with you as a decision will be made on the day. Swim caps are supplied in your registration pack and must be worn on the start line and during the swim so that race safety officials can identify you in the water. There will be safety kayaks to ensure your safety whilst swimming. If you get into difficulty during the swim please raise your hand and shout HELP for a boat to come to you and aid you to safety. You will be asked to hold onto the kayak, please do not attempt to climb on board! cycle course The Cycle route is on open roads. The Highway Code must be strictly obeyed. Motorbikes will be present during the cycle section to support, guide and referee. Marshals are NOT there to stop traffic. You must obey all traffic lights, signals, signs and markings. The Sandman is a non-drafting event. Failure to adhere to British Triathlon rules laid out in the British Triathlon Rulebook will result in disqualification. Marshals will also be present along the route. Competitors must follow the marked route and are not permitted to choose their own way. Change into your running kit in the transition area. Runners taking part in a team should wait in the team handover area to receive their timing chip from the cyclist. The cyclist finishing their section must rack their bike in the transition area before making their way to the team handover point. Part of the run is on public footpath, please be aware and considerate to other pedestrians. Uneven ground there will be numerous potential hazards underfoot along the entire run route. Appropriate footwear should be worn and be aware of the ground conditions. Road crossing you will be required to cross the toll road at approx 4.5 miles in to the Classic/Legend run lap and 1.75 miles on the Sprint route. Check both directions before crossing for oncoming cyclists/emergency vehicles. Runners must give way to cyclists. Bad Weather Contingencies In the interest of competitor safety, as with all events it might be necessary to implement contingencies on the race route. We will do all that we can to ensure you have the best experience and will only make changes to the route if it is absolutely necessary. Thank you for your understanding.
