Money rised will be used to purchse resources to support the students lerning. Overcoming dversity is something tht ll people will do, to greter or lesser extent t some point in their lives. Even for the most blessed individul, the world cn seem full of dversity t times. Think bck to some of the big chllenges in your life: your first dy t school, estblishing nd mintining friendships, your performnce for the sports tem, your role in the school production, sitting tests nd exms, grdution nd plnning life beyond school, getting the job of your drems. Other mjor chllenges for young people include coping with mking choices regrding lcohol, drugs, nd personl reltionships. Young people re prone to mke mistkes in some or ll of these res, but those who bounce bck, dust themselves off nd strt ll over gin re the ones with resilience. Resilience is sometimes referred to s the rubber bll fctor: tht is the bility to bounce bck in the event of dversity. For some dolescents they cn feel like they hve lot of dversity in their lives. Getting it right nd ppering to fit in with the peer group re ll very importnt to young people nd ny form of filure cn be mjor set-bck which ffects their confidence nd sense of self-worth. Reserch revels tht young people who hve the most resilience shre certin chrcteristics such s: A support network in the shpe of fmily, friends, peers nd techers. Confidence tht they cn fce up to new nd chllenging situtions. Enjoyed previous successes which they cn fll bck on to remind them tht they hve overcome dversity in the pst. Being positive, ctive nd dptble, hving sense of humour (including the bility to lugh t themselves), empthy, cring, strong communiction skills. The cpcity for bstrct thought, reflection, flexibility nd willingness to ttempt lterntive solutions, which re ll signs of resilience. The bility to hve sense of their own identity, the cpcity to ct independently, nd to exert some control over their environment. A sense of purpose nd future with mbitions, gols, desire for chievement, motivtion, desire for eductionl success, belief tht things will be better in the future. Resilient people lso void flling into negtive thinking trps, such s I just cn t do it, I hve never been good t. As prents nd eductors we my need to ssist our young people on dily bsis to see lterntives when fced with chllenge, to void ctstrophizing nd know when nd how to sk for help. God Grnt me the serenity to ccept the things I cnnot chnge; courge to chnge the things I cn; nd wisdom to know the difference.
