Shooter" from the Ynks We would like to slute one of the most competitive shooters this gme of shufflebord hs seen in some time. And not just for her stute shooting bility, but for her pssion for the gme nd ll tht she does to mke the gme better for 1 plyers cross the country. Of course, we re tlking bout the one nd only Louise Freer of Pennsylvni. To her shooting credits, whch re mny, she hs just dded gret singles victory t the Est Cost Showdown t Hrvey's Plce in Street, Mrylnd. Wht impresses us more thn her shooting expertise is ll she hs done for our gme of shufflebord, from running pro legues, promoting tournments, volunteering to help in ny wy she cn, to being legue officil, nd finlly, for ll she does s secretry of the Ntionl Shufflebord Hll of Fme. Her insights into the gme re fresh nd inventive nd " she hs more true grit thn plyers with 20 times more time thn she hs in the gme. t: is hrd to believe tht, plyer with only five yers experience hs done this much for our gme. mgine if we ll put forth just one-tenth of the effort she hs, how much better our gme would be. Thnk you very, very, very much, Louise. Keep up the good work Rit nd Jim Ynk Sr., Phildelphi, Pennsylvni And thnk you, Rit nd Jim, for this very well-deserved slute to Louise. Hopefully, your words will provide her with the courge, fortitude nd desire to keep up her good work! This gme needs the likes of her to keep it going nd growing. f you hve red check below, it mens your subscription hs expired. Use the form inside to renew NOW so you won't miss next month's issue! Shu fjlers ' Notebook News nd Views from The Won% of Shufflebord A1 Hs Suggestion for Hll of Fume Directors hve suggestion to the Ntionl Shufflebord Hll of Fme Bord of Directors concerning who to induct fiom yers pst. Who ws known in the Est ws never herd of in the West. Sme with those gret plyers from ll over yers go. However, they ll "pid their dues" to mke the gme wht it is tody nd should be recognized for their contributions to shufflebord. ' t is my understnding tht mny of them do not meet the requirements to be formlly inducted into the Hll. Therefore, suggest we collect ll the informtion possible on these people (pictures, stories, fets, etc.) nd plce it in the Hll of Fme under the title of "The Erly Yers," or ny other pproprite nme. This wy, they will he included in the Hll nd some very colorful people, nd vitl prt of the history of our gme, will be preserved for the future plyers. Aln Primrose, Wynnewood, Oklhom Rc~cuse the sport hs chnged so much from wht it ws yers go, deciding how to honor those individuls fronz tht er hs been one of the gretest chllenges for the NSHF Bord of Directors. The "mesuring stick" they hve for induction tody just doesn'tfit yesterdy's pioneers who plyed mostly for their own glory nd pockets rther thn dvncement of the sport. They didn't hve the tournments, orgniztion, rules nd. disciplines tht shuflebord hs tody, so they cn't be judged by the sme. criteri. However, s you sy, they ')mid their dues" nd should be recognized somehow. Your suggestion is n good one nd we're sure the bord will pprecite your input. it's going to tke the coopertion nd cring of lot of people to gther the i~fornztion nd memorbili to mke it fitting tribute. f you cn help, plese contct the NSHF Bord by writing to Secretry Louise Freer, 189 Brry Ave., hnsdnle, PA 19446. While the NSHF hs mde gret strides since its inception, fhere is still the mutter of structure tht will house the Hll where people cn go to lern bout the history of their sport. Steve Blue, dedicted ndin skufler who hs mde his mrk in ntionl circles, recognizes tht we hve to strt somewhere, even ifit's (continued on Pge 12)

P 1e 18 Frisco Eddie 's Revenge: The Return A series by Blbo Ron Schweikert (zn the lst episode, Tcom Tim ws tking Eddie nd LiE to their "moment of decision" -- where would they go for their next shuflebord dventure?) Tim's Bronco ws pproching nterstte 5. They were on 512 nd still hdn't mde up their minds which wy they wnted to go. TcomSettle ws on their right, nd Olympi nd severl other towns further south were on their left. Lil decided to flip coin. Eddie would cll it. t cme up "heds" (which ws lwys Eddie's cll). He pondered for moment... then sid: "'ve never relly seen the Settle re except for the irport nd the drive to Puyllop. Why don't we hng right nd give it shot, O.K.?" Everyone ws in greement to tht, so Tim swung onto the freewy nd heded north. Eddie wsn't exctly sure why he hd decided to return to Settle. He wondered to himself if tht pretty girl nmed Tmmi he met t the swimming pool when they were in Texs my subconsciously hve hd something to do with it. After ll, she hd sid to look her up if he ever got in the re. He dismissed the fleeting notion then nd sid: "Yo, Tim, how re we going to work this thing?" Tim replied: "Well, there's spot up the rod wys tht hs the best ction. t's clled Gee Bee's. t's the, weekend, so they11 hve some kind of ply going on. They lwys do," They drove for bout 30 minutes nd then Tim exited the freewy. n bout five minutes, he pulled into prking lot nd sid: "This is it, guys. Let me go in by myself first nd check the ction. T'll be bck in few minutes. " Eddie could sense tht feeling of excitement he ws feeling more nd more just before he ws going to shoot. His nerves nd senses were strting to pek. t ws wonderful senstion! After minute or two, Tim cme to the doorwy nd motioned for them to come up. They joined him just outside the entrnce wy. He told them tht there ws lot of ction going on inside nd tht they'd find it very interesting. They ll entered the plce then, nd no sooner thn Lil got inside, she ws cknowledged by severl of the plyers. There were two of the plyers tht Lil knew didn't come from tht of the country, nd she surmised tht they were there for the sme reson she nd Eddie were. They wved tdher nd Tim between shots nd hollered "hellos.: Lil nd Tim knew these guys were probbly "trigpin"' round the Northwest re, much the sme s she nd Eddie were. The one ws of verge height, nd the other ws tller. They both wore glsses. They were plying gme of doubles with couple of the locl plyers nd it ws obvious tht they hd them wy tt-clssed. The three of them found sets nd, fter they got settl~xl nd hd ordered their drinks, the tller of the two men cme up to Lil nd sid: "Long Bech Lil, it's good to see you. t's been long time." 'L extended her hnd s she replied: "Well, now, ndin Joe, see you've got your sidekick, 'The Wrpper,' with you." The smll tlk ended when it ws Jm's turn to shoot. The other one cme up then nd shook hnds with Lil nd Tim. Now, these two were hustlers -- good hustlers, nd Lil knew she'd hve to scheme pretty good if they were going to get out of here with score. Neither of them knew Eddie. Tht ws obvious when they didn't even py ny ntention to him when they entered. Her brin ws strting to click now, lmost instinctively. This ws the prt of the ction she enjoyed lmost s much s lgging out to win gme! Most of ny gme in these types of situtions ws won or lost -- even before the qurters went into the slot. ndin nd Wrpper's gme ws just bout over. mere were no chllengers becuse everyone knew they couldn't bet those guys, nd much better plyers were now on the scene. Lil mde her move then by plcing two qurters ner the center of the tble nd sying: "You two don't mind if we give you chllenge here, do you?" They both smiled nd sid: "No problem." They knew Tim hdn't competed seriously for long time, so they figured they wouldn't hve ny trouble with him in the ction. The gme ended with the locls losing by good mrgin. Lil very quietly clued Eddie in on the ction whle the bord ws bdng wiped.
