Dropping off & collection Details We will meet the children at the stage door of the Ashcroft Theatre on Friday 5 th July at 4pm for Group 1 & 6pm for group 2 & at 9:30 am on Sat 6 TH July for the dress run. The Stage door entrance is on the left just before the entrance into Fairfield car park down the ramp. Children should then be collected from the stage door after the second show at approximately 8.15pm, the chaperones will bring them to the stage door. Children should arrive and leave the theatre in their own clothes, not in costume. We have to sign each child in and out of the venue before and after the show and rehearsals, which can be a lengthy process, so please be patient. Chaperones Children will be supervised by parents who have very kindly volunteered their help and have become registered chaperones with the council. No other parents are allowed back stage. At The Ashcroft Theatre All children will be allocated a numbered dressing room according to their age and the classes they take. Children will then be called to the stage less than ten minutes before they are due on Children will be escorted quietly to the stage and back again to their dressing room Children must not wander around the theatre; this includes entering the theatre to watch the show. All children must stay in their dressing rooms. Children will not be allowed out between shows or in the intervals to visit friends and family. Hair & Make-Up Make up should be worn, children should bring their own make-up. They should arrive at the Theatre on 6 th July with their hair and make up already done for the day. The chaperones, teachers and older students will help them thoughout the day. Hair and make up must be done for the photocalls and the rehearsal on Sun 30 th June, as it will be for the show, so we can check it all. More details of hair and make up will come with their costumes, clarifying what make up they should have. We are asking children and students to do the following with their hair and make up. If you are 12 and under in the senior show you will need; (girls only) Bright red lipstick Blue eyeshadow Blusher Mascara Hair brush and hair bands the same colour as your hair Hair pins for ballet girls Hair in bunches with plaits. For ballet, these will be pinned into 2 buns, for all other dances they be left as bunches and plaits
Page 3 of 5 If you are 13 and over in the senior show you will need; (girls only) Bright red lipstick Mascara and false eyelashes (if parent is happy) Base - foundation (slightly darker shade than your normal skin tone) Eyebrows- pencil in the eyebrows to define them White boujois eyemake up (Boots sell it - it is cheap but amazing on stage) apply quite heavy to area under the eyebrow and then slightly lighter to whole of eyelid. Then using an eyeshadow brush apply a dark purple eyeshadow to the outer part half of the eyelid (edge of the eye) taking it slightly out like a cat eye - and taking it underneath the eye as well. (thats important) Don t apply dark eyeshadow to inside of the eye. Black liquid eyeliner to top of eyelid - again slightly thicker in outer corner of eye. Hair scrapped up in a high doughnut bun, you can buy these donuts from boots, primark, superdrug etc and it should be a similar colour to the hair. It means we don't have to worry about hair throughout the show - it will work for jazz numbers as well as for classical numbers. Hair brush and hair bands the same colour as your hair Hair pins for ballet girls There will be some children that are under 13 but are in a class with mainly older children and vice versa. To be clear what make up and hair you should have, it will also be on the costume info next term. But I wanted to give you as much info as early as I can- it gives parents and students a chance to practice! Back Stage Discipline Children should be told it is very important they are quiet and calm whilst backstage as this area can become very busy during Showtime. Tights / socks / underwear Details of what they wear on their legs will arrive with their costume info. This will depend on their costume. This will either be ballet tights, flesh coloured dance tights (not normal denier flesh tights from department stores) or dance socks (which can all be purchased from the dance school or a dance shop.) With regards to underwear, for older students please purchase flesh coloured underwear from primark. If younger children cannot find flesh coloured underwear in their size, you may find the very small adult sizes fit in primark or please wear neutral / plain underwear- no patterns or colours etc. Between Performances on Saturday 6 th July Children will be supervised by chaperones and have time to eat and have a break. Ensure they bring a packed lunch & dinner for between shows & also enough drink for the whole day It is helpful if they wear tops that do not have to be dragged over their heads because of their hair. Zippers are perfect. For younger students, please ensure they bring travel size games or colouring books/pencils to prevent boredom between and during shows Senior Show Photo Call There will be a professional photographer taking group photos of the children in costume that can then be purchased on the show days. Hair and make up should be done for photocalls as a rehearsal for the show. If a costume is forgotten OR hair and make up is not done the child cannot be included in the photo Any parents who can help on the photo days would be very welcome especially for younger children Please note if your child has classes on two different days they will need costumes for both of them. Photo call for the Shows Sat 22 nd June for classes at Ridgeway School Mon 24 th -29 th June for classes at Mon 1 st July for classes at Christ Church, Purley ALL HAIR AND MAKE UP MUST BE DONE FOR THE PHOTOCALLS AS FOR THE SHOW.
Page 4 of 5 Costumes A costume hire fee (approximately 5-15 per costume) will be added to next term s fees, varying class to class. This is a very fair contribution as some dance schools would ask parents to purchase all their entire costumes. Unless notified on non participation by the end of the spring term, the costume hire will still be added to all accounts. Children will be given their costumes in the first few weeks of the Summer Term, please make sure they have bags with them at dancing or singing classes during the summer term to take their costumes home in. No costumes will be allowed out of the class without a bag to put them in. They are expected to:- Look after them, not to let friends or siblings try them on at home. Not to eat or drink in costume. Bring the entire costume to the photo call, dress rehearsal and, of course, the shows! Costumes should be looked after between shows and not left unattended at the Theatre. Please check there will be a note with the costumes regarding additional items required ie socks, tights, hair and make up instructions etc. After the last show costumes should be handed into a member of staff in the changing area you are allocated Junior & Senior Show DVD to purchase Both shows will be recorded by a professional production company. Dates are below. However, these maybe subject to change. Order forms will be on your seats at the shows. Due to legislation to protect children, it is not permitted for anyone to take photos or video the children in either the Junior or Senior show. If you do not want your child involved in the photo call or to be videoed by the professional production company please let me know in writing. Likewise, if you do not want a photograph including your child to be published on the Cavat Theatre Arts website or for publicity purposes, please let me know in writing. And finally As you can imagine both shows take a huge amount of organisation and despite how prepared I try and be, things can change leading up to the show. Any further updates will be put up on the notice boards and on the website & also on our facebook page, Cavat School of Theatre Arts & Agency. No further newsletters will be issued until September. I hope you and your families enjoy watching the children perform and most importantly the children enjoy the whole show experience. Good luck to everyone involved and a big Thank You for having the patience to read through this newsletter!!
