It also marks Canada s third penalty shot goal in the past four World Juniors. Canada s last penalty shot goal came at the 2005 World Junior Championship in Grand Forks, ND when Clarke MacArthur beat Slovakia s Jaroslav Halak. Michael Richards (2004) and Jamie Lundmark (2000) also scored for Canada on penalty shots, while Steve Tambellini was stopped at the 1978 World Juniors. TOEWS IN SELECT COMPANY TOEWS TIENT BONNE COMPAGNIE Forward Jonathan Toews is one of three players all-time to win World Junior gold, Under-18 gold and Under-17 gold in one calendar year. Toews accomplished this rare feat by winning the 2005 World Under-17 Challenge in January 2005, the Under-18 Junior World Cup in August 2005 and the World Junior Championship in January 2006. Father Dave Gagner played for Canada at the 1984 World Junior Championship. NOTE Jeff Tambellini followed in father Steve s footsteps when he played in 2004. Steve Tambellini, now an executive with the Vancouver Canucks, played in 1978 with the National Team, prior to the start of the Program of Excellence. DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH LA PATIENCE VAUT LE COUP Kristopher Letang, James Neal and Tommy Pyatt are proof that not being noticed immediately does not mean it s the end of the Program of Excellence road. None of the three were involved in the Summer Under-18 Program, but were then selected for the 2005 World Under-18 Championship where Canada won a silver medal. Letang and Pyatt went on to earn spots on Canada s 2006 National Junior Team and win gold medals as 18 year-olds. Neal will be attempting to win a gold in 2007, while Letang and Pyatt are hoping for the elusive two gold medals. Kristopher Letang, James Neal et Tommy Pyatt font preuve du fait que la patience est de rigueur des fois avec le Programme d excellence.
