A CSU win would give the Buccaneers their first outright Big South championship. Charleston Southern climbed to No. 8 in the FCS Coaches Poll this week, marking the Buccaneers first-ever Top 10 ranking. Meanwhile, Liberty will try to make CSU the first opposing team it has ever defeated 20 times on the gridiron. The Flames are 19-3 all-time against the Buccaneers. 2 - With a win on Saturday, CSU would join 2011 Stony Brook as the only two Big South teams ever to post a 6-0 league record. The Buccaneers will look to defeat Liberty in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever. CSU is also aiming for its second all-time home win over the Flames. Liberty is 9-1 in Charleston, including a current streak of four straight victories. Liberty safety Avery James and CSU wide receiver Colton Korn won two straight (2010 and 2011) South Carolina AAAA state titles as teammates at Byrnes High School. 3 - Only three teams (Troy, Citadel and Coastal Carolina) have scored 20 points against Charleston Southern this season. The Buccaneers rank No. 1 nationally in total defense (250.6 ypg allowed) and No. 7 in scoring defense (15.3 ppg allowed). 4 - Charleston Southern will wrap up its regular season with a Nov. 21 visit to one of the four teams currently in the driver s seat for a berth in the FBS College Football Playoff, Alabama. Last Meeting with Charleston Southern Nov. 15, 2014 Charleston Southern 38, Liberty 36 Lynchburg, Va. (Williams Stadium) Charleston Southern racked up a school-record 576 yards of total offense, including 359 on the ground, during its first win over the Flames since 2005 and its first victory in Lynchburg since 2000. Christian Reyes finished with 188 yards and two TDs on 18 carries to pace CSU s offensive attack. Stephon Masha made his first career start at QB for Liberty, in place of an injured Josh Woodrum. He threw for 238 yards and four TDs while rushing for 99 more yards. However, Masha also threw three interceptions on the day. Darrin Peterson was Masha s top target, hauling in 10 passes for 123 yards and three scores. Jacob Hagen intercepted three passes for the Flames. Rice s next touchdown will be his 30th career TD, while Woodrum is one TD pass shy of 60. 1/2 - Chima Uzowihe s next tackle for a loss will be No. 40 of his career, making him the third Big South player and the fourth Liberty Flame ever to reach that milestone. Additionally, Uzowihe needs 2 sacks to break the Big South single-season record of 9.5 sacks, set by former teammate Toby Onyechi in 2014. 4 - Chris Turner has tallied three interceptions during his freshman season. His next pick will make him the first Liberty freshman with four interceptions in a season since Randall State had four as a freshman in 1998. 173 - Josh Woodrum needs 173 passing yards to become the first quarterback in Liberty or Big South Conference history ever to throw for 10,000 career yards. He would also become the only current FCS quarterback to reach that milestone. A Liberty Win Would... Boost the Flames record in November contests to 13-1 under Turner Gill. Mark the Flames sixth win in their last eight meetings with FCS Top 25 opponents and their fourth victory over a Top 10 foe under Turner Gill. Be the Flames fifth straight win over CSU in Charleston and the team s 20th all-time victory against the Buccaneers. Clinch the Flames 10th consecutive winning season. Give the Flames a season-best three-game winning streak. Mark the Flames first Big South road win of 2015. Snap CSU s five-game home winning streak. Flames Fast Facts Quick Hitters The Flames dropped out of both FCS national polls on Oct. 19, after having been ranked inside the Top 25 for nine straight weeks, dating back to the 2014 season. Liberty was ranked No. 10 in both FCS polls on Sept. 21, marking the Flames highest national ranking since 1990. The Flames 41-33 win at Georgia State on Oct. 3 was the team s fourth all-time victory over an FBS opponent and second in as many years. The Flames previous FBS wins came against Eastern Michigan (1989), Ball State (2010) and Appalachian State (2014). After a 31-21 win over No. 8/7 Montana on Sept. 19, Liberty is 5-2 in its last seven meetings with FCS Top 25 teams. That stretch was highlighted by a 15-14 win at No. 2/1 Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22, 2014, the Flames first-ever victory over a No. 1 team in program history. The Flames have captured seven Big South titles in the last eight years. They are 39-8 in conference games since the start of the 2007 season. The Flames are 48-10 in home games at Williams Stadium since the start of the 2006 season, including 4-0 in 2015. 2015 Uniform Tracker The Liberty football program is outfitted by Nike and has 27 different helmet/jersey/pants combinations to choose from during the 2015 season.
