The tournament begins Sunday with single rounds of stoke play being contested each day. The Ducks took home the team title at last year s event, blowing away the field with a 21-shot victory at 28-under par. SO Norman Xiong, JR Ryan Gronlund, JR Edwin Yi, FR Donald Kay and FR Thomas Mulligan will make up the Ducks lineup while SO Kevin Geniza and FR Marcel Boet will compete as individuals. THE FIELD The Ducks will join a 14-team field headlined by two teams that were ranked in the Golfweek Coaches Poll released on Mar. 9. Clemson is ranked 14th in the nation while Arizona State came in at No. 21 in the latest rankings. Boise State, Denver, Gonzaga (host), Idaho, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Southern Utah, Utah, UTEP and Washington State make up the remainder of the field. DUCKS TURN IN BEST TEAM FINISH OF THE SEASON AT THE PRESTIGE Oregon had its highest finish of the season as a team, coming in third at The Prestige. After the tournament was shortened to two rounds due to high winds, the Ducks shot 1-under par in the opening round to sit in a tie for the lead. The final round saw tougher scoring conditions and the Ducks shot 4 over to finish 3-over par for the event. It was the team s second top-10 finish of the season after coming in fourth at the Rod Myers Invitational to open the season. SO Norman Xiong finished second in the individual race at 6-under par for the tournament after firing back-to-back rounds of 4-under par 68. He placed in the top 10 for the fourth time this season and 10th time in his career. JR Ryan Gronlund recorded his third top-10 finish of the season, coming in tied for 10th at 1 over after shooting an opening round 73 and a 70 in the final round. JR Edwin Yi had another steady week, finishing tied for 21st at 3-over par for the week. He shot a 1-over 72 in round one and closed with a 2-over par 73. XIONG ON BEN HOGAN AWARD WATCH LIST SO Norman Xiong was named to the watch list for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award given annually to the top men s collegiate golfer by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America. Xiong is one of 27 on the watch list for the award which takes into account all collegiate and outside amateur competitions over the past 12 months. The Ducks have had a player named a semifinalist for the award the last two years with Aaron Wise in 2016 and Wyndham Clark in 2017. The list will be trimmed down to 10 semifinalists on April 11 and three finalists for the award will be announced on May 2 with the winner being revealed on May 21.

He was ranked fifth on the second update to the spring watch list that was released on Mar. 8 after a pair of wins and two top-10 finishes through six tournaments. The winner of the award is selected by players, coaches and media and is announced following the conclusion of the NCAA Championships in May. PLAYING WITH THE PROS SO Norman Xiong missed the cut in his first career PGA Tour event at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course. The only amateur in the field, Xiong shot an even-par 72 in round one and turned in a 2-over par 74 in round two to finish three shots outside the cut line in a tie for 117th place. He got off to a strong start in round one, making birdie on the opening hole and going out in 2-under par 34 with three birdies and a bogey on Torrey Pines South Course. Back-to-back bogeys on holes 16 and 17 along with seven pars dropped Xiong back to even par for the round and into a tie for 84th place. An uneven start in round two resulted in a 3-over par 39 going out on the North Course and put him at 3-over par for the tournament. Xiong got back to 1-over par for the tournament after a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and an eagle on the par-4 seventh hole, but dropped a shot with a bogey a hole later. STORMIN NORMAN After helping the Ducks to a Pac-12 title and NCAA runner-up finish and claiming numerous awards following the season, SO Norman Xiong went on to compete in some of the most prestigious amateur events in the world over the summer. Xiong helped the United States Palmer Cup team to a victory in June, before becoming the first Duck ever to win the Western Amateur in August. Xiong finished second in the stroke play portion of the U.S. Amateur, shooting 6-under in two rounds before falling in the first round of match play. He capped off his stellar summer by going 3-0-1 at the Walker Cup and helping the U.S. to a 19-7 win over Great Britain and Ireland. Xiong turned the momentum he built over the summer into a season-opening win at the Rod Myers Invitational, shooting 12-under par over three rounds to share medalist honors. He came from two shots off the lead entering the final round to earn his third career win at the Nike Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 3. Xiong sank a long par putt that turned out to be the tournament-clinching putt on his final hole of the week, finishing 13-under par. BUSY BREAK FOR GRONLUND JR Ryan Gronlund played in two high-level amateur events during the break between the fall and spring seasons, playing in the Sun Bowl Andeavor All-America Classic in November and the Patriot All-America Invitational in December. Gronlund finished 2-over par for the week at the Sun Bowl Classic in a tie for 25th. He got off to a good start in a tie for third place at 3-under par through round one in the Patriot All-America Invitational but ended the week at 1-over par in a tie for 19th. DUCKS SIGN THREE FOR CLASS OF 2018 Oregon received three commitments during the November signing period that will join the program next fall. Tom Parker of Christchurch, New Zealand was the runner-up at the 2017 New Zealand Amateur Championship and won the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship in 2017. Craig Ronne of Klamath Falls, Ore. was named the 2017 Oregon Junior Golf Player of the Year after winning the Oregon Junior Amateur. He also captured the Oregon Junior Stroke Play title winning by seven strokes at 12-under par over three days. Yin Ho Yue of Shanghai, China qualified for the PGA Tour China s Clearwater Bay Open in 2017 and also qualified for the 2016 Hong Kong Open on the European Tour. UP NEXT Oregon will have two weeks off before hosting the Duck Invitational Mar. 26-27 at Eugene Country Club. 2

HEAD COACH CASEY MARTIN PGA Tour veteran, former NCAA Champion and Eugene native Casey Martin enters his twelfth season in 2017-18 after amassing one of the Ducks most impressive resumes in any sport. In his short tenure, he has transformed Oregon into a national golf power, and guided the team to seven NCAA Championship appearances, including winning the 2016 NCAA title and finishing runner-up in the 2017 championships. In that span, UO has tied for the lead at the end of regulation of the Pac-12 Championships twice, and scored a fourth-runnerup effort in 15. In NCAA Regional play, Oregon has been equally up to par with one title (2010) and five runner-up efforts (2008, 09, 12, 14, 16). In 2016-17, the Ducks followed up their 2016 NCAA title with outstanding success in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. With five team wins to include the Pac-12 men s golf championship team title (the first outright since 1959) and the Pac-12 individual champion in Wyndham Clark (the team s first since 1977 and he was also named the Pac-12 Golfer of the Year), Martin rallied his squad with the addition of Clark and freshman Norman Xiong (Pac-12 Freshman of the Year) to arguable his best season yet. The Ducks secured a third-place finish at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and at the championships, they earned the No. 5 seed at the NCAA championships match play, the program s fourth appearance in match play of all time. In 13 tournaments and 38 rounds, the Ducks averaged 285.13 and never finished lower than fifth all season. In 2015-16, Martin led the Ducks to their tenth-straight NCAA Regional appearance and 28th NCAA Championships held at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., (May 27-June 1). The Ducks easily held second place over UAB at the Tuscon Regional finishing 17-under, 10 strokes ahead of the third-place finisher. Oregon competed in match play during the NCAA Championships. After defeating LSU (3-1-1) and Illinois (3-2-0), Oregon defeated Texas 3-2-0 in a dramatic 21-hole final round, played by Eugene native, Sulman Raza, to clinch the first ever NCAA Championship in program history. In the 2014-15 regular season, Oregon posted a school-record four-straight wins to start the fall and picked up its fifth win of the year in early March at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. The Ducks also set the NCAA low-round record in the fall in the first round of the Ka anapali Collegiate Classic with a blistering 30-under 254. Brandon McIver s 62 card tied Daniel Miernicki (2010-11) and Derek Sipe, Jr. (2006-07) for the lowest-round ever at Oregon. A year removed from missing the cut for the NCAA Championships, Martin and the Oregon Ducks made their 26th appearance at the championships in 2013-14. The Ducks finished in 14th place at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., thanks to a 9-under 271 on the final round of stroke play, UO s third-best finish at the championships under Martin. In the 2012-13 campaign, Martin led UO to its seventh-straight NCAA Regional appearance in Tallahassee, Fla., and just missed the cut by two strokes for what would have been Oregon s 26th appearance at the NCAA Championships. The 2011-12 featured a record seven team wins among their 12 stroke-play events, and an even more amazing postseason run. In the collegiate finale in L.A., UO matched its best-ever finish among its 25 NCAA trips with a thirdplace tie. The Ducks lost their hard-fought semifinal to No.1-ranked and eventual national champion Texas, 3-2, at the Riviera Country Club. Earlier in the week, Oregon beat No. 5 UCLA, 3-2, in the quarterfinals, and stood seventh in stroke play (291-294-288-873) after it sported three individuals in the top 30 overall (Eugene Wong, 13th, 215 (-1); Daniel Miernicki, 21st, 216 (+2); Andrew Vijarro, 29th, 217 (+2)). In return for their historic play all season long, the Ducks amassed a host of individual accolades in 2011-12. Wong picked up his second Pac-12 Golfer of the Year, All-Nicklaus Team and PING All-America First Team honors. Miernicki joined Wong on the top PING All-America squad, his first first-team nod after he earned second-team honors as a sophomore. Both were also tabbed to the All-Pac-12 First Team, while Vijarro earned his second honorable mention (and was a second-team choice in 11). Two years before, Martin was honored by his league peers as the 2010 Pac-10 Coach of the Year after another ground-breaking campaign. That season, he led the Ducks to a then-school-record five tournament victories, including Oregon s first-ever NCAA Regional title, and a third-place tie in the NCAA Men s Golf Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. After securing a spot in the final eight with a fifth-place finish through the stroke play portion of the championships, the Ducks defeated Pac-10 rival Washington, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of match play. Oregon s historic run was ended on The Honors Course by Oklahoma State, which took the semifinal 3-1-1. Eugene Wong was tabbed the Co Pac-10 Golfer of the Year, won the Jack Nicklaus Award as the Division I player of the year, and was named a first-team PING All-American. Wong s tie for ninth at the NCAA Championships is believed to be the best finish ever by a UO golfer. Not surprisingly, the Ducks have shined since the start of his head coaching tenure, as the Ducks won the 2006 Northwest Collegiate Classic - his second event at the helm. The following spring, Oregon also claimed the 2007 Thunderbird Invitational title at Arizona State for the first time in school history. The golf community is equally familiar with Martin s esteemed accomplishments as a player. A graduate of South Eugene High School, Martin was a three time allconference selection, a two-time All-American at Stanford and member of its 1994 NCAA Championship squad. As a senior, he received Academic All- America honors in 1995 and graduated with a degree in economics. He played professionally starting in 1998 and earned his PGA Tour card in 2000. During that year, he recorded five top-50 finishes, and his best showing was a tie for 17th in the Tucson Open. Other career highlights include an impressive 23rd-place tie in the 1998 U.S. Open. Even though he re-directed his love for the sport as a collegiate coach in the fall of 2005, he flashed his undeniable athletic skill seven years later in June, 2012. After winning the local 2012 U.S. Open qualifier at Emerald Valley, he returned to the nation s toughest golf test at the Olympic Club in San Francisco two weeks later. In his first elite appearance in nearly a decade, the soft-spoken fan favorite became the event s most heart-warming story, and his nine-over score (74-75-149) was only one stroke shy of the midway cut. Martin is also known for his court battle with the PGA Tour over the right to use a golf cart in competition. Martin suffers from a birth defect in his right 11

leg known as Klippel-Trenaunay-Webber Syndrome, a congenital circulatory disorder. Under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Martin won the right to use a golf cart in a legal case with the PGA that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. His efforts in that landmark case earned him the 1998 Ben Hogan Award, given annually to a competitor who continues to be active in golf despite a physical handicap. He is the ninth man to hold the head coaching position at the University of Oregon. He succeeded Steve Nosler, whom he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2005-06 season. Martin s dedication to the sport of golf, Eugene and the University of Oregon has made him a perfect fit for the UO golf program. Having learned many invaluable lessons throughout his playing days, Martin is now eager to pass them on to Oregon s players. In 2001, Nike began bestowing an annual Casey Martin Award to recognize a disabled athlete. Martin, whose brother Cameron was a member of Oregon s golf team in the early 1990s, has also been named Time magazine person of the week (2001) and New Mobility magazine person of the year (2002).
