The game will be televised regionally by FoxSportSouth and New England Sports Network. After playing the Tar Heels on Tuesday, Asheville will play at Georgetown Saturday afternoon, USC Upstate on Nov. 29 and then open Big South Conference play next week with games at Radford (Dec. 2) and High Point (Dec. 4). Asheville is off to a 2-1 start this season after winning its home opener on Saturday when the Bulldogs downed Virginia Intermont 116-58 at Justice Center. The Bulldogs placed seven players in double figures in the win. Asheville opened the season with a pair of road games. The Bulldogs upset Auburn in the first game of the year in overtime, 70-69 before falling at Furman last Tuesday, 69-67. The Series: This will be the seventh time that UNC Asheville and North Carolina have met on the hardwood. The Tar Heels hold a 6-0 series lead and this will be the fifth time the teams have played in the last six years. The schools have played in the Smith Center five times and once at the Asheville Civic Center. The game at the Civic Center occurred on Dec. 28, 1995 and was played before the largest home crowd in school history as 7,210 fans were in attendance that night. North Carolina is scheduled to come to Asheville next year to open UNC Asheville s new on-campus Kimmel Arena early in 2 the season. Last Game: UNC Asheville placed seven players in double figures as the Bulldogs rolled to a 116-58 victory over Virginia Intermont Saturday afternoon before a packed crowd at Justice Center. The Bulldogs led from start to finish and picked up the biggest margin of victory (58 points) since the 1988-89 season. Asheville tied a school record for steals with 20. Matt Dickey, J.P Primm and Chris Stephenson all scored 16 points for Asheville. Jaron Lane added 15 points, while D.J. Cunningham finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. He also blocked four shots. Jon Nwannunu had 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench. John Williams contributed 11 points and five steals. The Bulldogs led 12-10 after the first media timeout and then hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions from three different players to race to a 21-10 lead. VI cut the lead to 21-14 when Asheville erupted for a 31-8 run over the next seven minutes to sprint to a 52-22 lead. The home team was red-hot from the field in the opening half as the Bulldogs 66 percent (21-of-32) from the field and 60 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc. Asheville led 61-33 at halftime. The Bulldogs' defense forced 14 Cobra turnovers that led to 23 Asheville points. The only negative statistic for the Bulldogs in the first half was that VI outrounded Asheville 14-13. The Cobras had six offensive rebounds to five for the Dogs. That would change in the second half as the Bulldogs out-rebounded their NAIA foe, 32-10. The Cobras had just one offensive rebound, compared to 16 for Asheville. Please Call Us UNC Ashville: When referring to our school, please call us UNC Asheville in the first reference and second reference can be just Asheville. There is no hyphen in our name, and we especially have never used North Carolina-Asheville. We do not use UNCA anymore. Please go with UNC Asheville or just Asheville. The UNC Asheville Athletics Communications Office is thankful for your help. A Big Win at Auburn: UNC Asheville s overtime win at Auburn was a big win for the Bulldog program. Here are some interesting facts to come out of that win on Friday night. The victory broke a 14-game nonconference road losing streak for the Bulldogs. It was also the first openinggame win on the road since a 66-62 victory at Carson-Newman to open the 1978-79 season, a streak of 15 games. It is believed to be the biggest comeback win for a UNC Asheville team on the road ever in the history of the program. The Bulldogs trailed by 16 at halftime and by 12 with four minutes left to go in the contest before rallying to win. It was Asheville s first victory over a BCS school since defeating South Carolina, 61-58 on Jan. 5, 2008 as it broke a nine-game losing streak against those opponents. The Bulldogs improved their record against SEC opponents to 3-24 in their program s history. The other two victories have come against South Carolina.

Head Coach Eddie Biedenbach needs just three more wins to reach 200 for his career at Asheville. This afternoon he begins his 15 th year as head man with the Bulldogs. He has posted a 198-219 record at Asheville with four Big South regularseason titles along with a trip to the NCAA tournament and NIT during his tenure. Junior guard J.P. Primm has 334 career assists and is in seventh place all-time in that category. If he stays healthy, Primm should become the school s all-time leader in assists sometime next year. Senior forward John Williams is the school s all-time leader in blocked shots with 212. He enters this year fourth all-time in the Big South Conference. He needs just four to move into third place held by Tyrone Travis of Radford (215). John has 561 rebounds entering tonight s game and that s 14 th all-time at Asheville in career rebounds. The Raleigh native needs 28 to move into the school s Top 10 list and pass Robert Watson (588). Williams is also about to become the 25 th player to score 1,000 career points at Asheville. He has 951 points coming into today s game. Tough Road to Open Season: UNC Asheville will be on the road for much of the first month of the year. The Bulldogs will play seven of their first eight games in enemy territory. Asheville played at Auburn and Furman to open the season before the home opener against Virginia Intermont last Saturday. The next week has the Bulldogs at North Carolina (Nov. 23) and Georgetown (Nov. 27). Asheville The road trip ends with games at USC Upstate (Nov. 29), Radford (Dec. 2) and High Point (Dec. 4). Bulldogs Record in OT Under Eddie: UNC Asheville is 16-10 in overtime games under head coach Eddie Biedenbach after the Bulldogs stunned Auburn 70-69 on the road on Nov. 12. Home Sweet Justice: The Bulldogs have now won 10 straight games at Justice Center after Asheville s 116-58 victory over Virginia Intermont on Saturday. The Bulldogs started out 2-5 last year before winning their final nine home games of the season.

Bulldogs Picked 3 rd in Big South Preseason Poll: UNC Asheville was selected to finish third in the Big South Conference Preseason Poll that was announced by the league last month. Defending Big South Conference regularseason champion Coastal Carolina was selected first, followed by tournament champion Winthrop then UNC Asheville. The Dogs received three first-place votes in the poll that was made up of the head coaches and media members. Halftime Leads Were Safe Last Year: UNC Asheville did a good job holding onto leads in the 2009-10 season. The Bulldogs were 14-2 when they led at halftime last season. First Half Struggles: The Bulldogs have been very slow out of the game to begin the 2010-11 season. Prior to the Virginian Intermont game, Asheville was averaging just 23.5 points in the opening half. The Bulldogs fell behind 16 points at Auburn and only scored 21 points on Nov. 12 before rallying to win in overtime. Asheville trailed Furman 34-26 at halftime on Tuesday. The Bulldogs did rally but fell short, 69-67. Asheville is shooting 29 percent (16-of-54) from the field in the first halves of the first two games. The Bulldogs have done much better in the second half of the first two games as they re averaging 42.5 points and shooting 42 percent (24-of-51). J.P. s Big Rebounding Game: Junior guard J.P. Primm set a new career high in rebounding at Furman Tuesday night when he grabbed nine rebounds to go along with his 13 points and five assists. Primm has knocked on the door of a triple-double in his career and if he can ever accomplish that he would be the first Bulldog ever to score in double figures in scoring, rebounding and assists. Kenny George in 07-08 vs. Campbell had a triple-double in points, rebounds and blocked shots. 5 Did You Know About Eddie:? Eddie Biedenbach is in his 15 th season as head coach of the Bulldog program. This is not his first trip to Auburn as he served as an assistant Georgia for eight years (1981-89) under Hugh Durham. Eddie is now the winningest coach in the Big South Conference in both overall wins (198) and BSC victories (119). He began his head coaching career at Davidson and was there for three years. On Eddie s staff during his time at Davidson was current Texas head coach Rick Barnes, current Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik and current Davidson head coach Bob McKillop. In 2003, he guided the Bulldogs to the Big South Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The men s basketball team that year was the first team to ever go to the NCAA Tournament from UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs became the first team in Big South history to ever record a NCAA Tournament win when they knocked off Texas Southern in the opening round, 92-84 in overtime. The Last Season of Basketball at Justice Center: The 2010-11 season will be the final year for basketball games at Justice Center as both the men s and women s team will move into its new arena next year, Kimmel Arena. The Justice Center has been the home for Bulldog basketball since the 1963-63 season when the school was known as Asheville-Biltmore College and was a two-year school. At each home men s and women s basketball game, someone from Asheville s past will pull down a number to help count down the final season of play. The final regular-season game will be on Feb. 26 when the men s team hosts Radford. Not Much Luck vs. Roy Williams: The Bulldogs have faced Roy Williams-coached teams seven times and gone 0-7 in those games. Asheville went 0-3 when he was the coach at Kansas and 0-4 at North Carolina. For the most part, the games haven t been close. Asheville s margin of defeat against Williamscoached teams has been 40.4 points. The last time the teams played was the worst as the Bulldogs and Tar Heels squared off two years ago with UNC winning, 116-48. It was the second worst loss in school history.

Dickey enters tonight s game as Asheville s leading scorer with a 20.0 average. He has been the Bulldogs leading scorer in all three games, including tying his career-high at Furman Tuesday night with 26 points. He enters tonight s game shooting 50 percent (18- of-36) from the field, 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from beyond the arc and 89 percent (16-of-18) from the free throw line. A Big Win: UNC Asheville s win over Virginia Intermont on Saturday had a lot of highlights for the Bulldogs. The 116 points was the most scored by a Asheville team in the Eddie Biedenbach era. It was the second highest point total scored by a Bulldog team in the Division I era (1986-present). The only game higher was when Asheville scored 144 points against Voorhees in the opening game of the 1987-88 season. The Bulldogs had seven players score in double figures and that s the most they ve had in a game since the win over Voorhees in the 1987-88 season. The 58-point margin of victory was the second largest in the Division I era and the biggest in the Biedenbach era. In addition, Asheville tied a school record for steals with 20. Jamming With Jaron: Sophomore forward Jaron Lane is off to a great start for the Bulldogs this season. Lane enters tonight s game as Asheville s third leading scorer with a 12.0 scoring. He was an unsung hero in the Auburn win with 14 points, all in the second half and overtime. The Greenville native is shooting an amazing 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the field as he tallied 15 points on Saturday against Virginia Intermont. Strong in the Second Half: It s only three games but the Bulldogs have definitely played better in the second half of each game this season. The Bulldogs are averaging 46 points per game in the second halves of each game and allowing just 28.7 points in those halves. 6 Already Better Than Last Year: So far so good for the Bulldogs in 2010-11. Last year, Asheville started the season off 0-6 en route to a 3-12 start. The Bulldogs rallied in the second half of the year to go 12-4 and finish 15-16. Things are already better this year as Asheville comes into tonight s game with a 2-1 record.
