FT07 Canine Activities SECRETARIES CHECKLIST FOR ORGANISING A GUNDOG WORKING TEST Kennel Club Regulations J(G) in conjunction with Kennel Club Regulation J specify the criteria for organising Gundog Working Tests. The following is a chronological checklist with the appropriate Regulation references. APPLICATION AND REVIEW FORM This is sent out annually with the Field Trials Newsletter. Complete and return to the Kennel Club. (This also meets the requirements of the Annual Returns). J(A)1.c. ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE GROUND Visit the ground with host and keeper (additional considerations: parking, toilets, transport, lunch breaks, proximity of busy roads etc.). J(G)4.g and h. APPOINT JUDGES As required by your Committee (letter of confirmation, expenses needed, ensure supply of a current edition of the Field Trial Regulations, which include the GWT Regulations). ACCOMMODATION FOR JUDGES Arrange method of payment with Treasurer for this and other expenses. J(G)3.c,d,f to j. PLAN THE TEST(S) WITH JUDGES/COMMITTEE J(G)3.g. SUPPLY OF COLD GAME (AS APPLICABLE) Although not totally satisfactory, this often has to be from frozen game remember to defrost fully. J8. TROPHIES Obtain these from previous winners in good time. PRE-TEST J8.d. PRIZE MONEY Arrange with Treasurer. J5.b.(1)(iii). DIRECTIONS SIGNS Preferably set out the night before where possible many keepers or one of your members living nearby will hopefully offer to do this! J5.d. VETERINARY SUPPORT USE OF GUNS Ensure that everyone involved in the use and transport of guns (even though they may be firing blanks) is covered by firearms legislation. CHECK THAT ALL FIRING EQUIPMENT IS WORKING AND IN GOOD ORDER J(G)2.a. and b. J(G)3.e., J(G)4.a. and J5.b. SCHEDULE This can also be sent to the Kennel Club with the Application and Review Form. This is not obligatory but it is helpful to the office to provide an overall picture of the level of Gundog Working Test activity. J(G)4.f. DRAW Ensure openness draws are usually only needed for Cold Game Tests which are intended to be run as close to Field Trials lines as possible or when tests are oversubscribed. J(G)3.e. DRAW RESULT Send to members where applicable with directions to the ground if not previously given or if any changes have occurred. J(G)4.d.,e., f and k. J7. ENTRIES Scrutinise carefully! These are just as important as for a Field Trial i.e. qualification for Open Tests, statements about bitches being in season, in contact with disease etc. Request sample of test entry form from the Kennel Club. RAFFLE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A CLUB OR A CHARITY J(G)3.e. and J5.c. PRINT RUNNING LISTS OR CARDS (as required)
ON THE DAY J5.a.(2) ENSURE YOU HAVE A COPY OF THE PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY J5.c. and J(G)3.e. RUNNING CARDS If possible have sufficient cards printed to give to host and helpers, as well as the competitors, keepers etc. J(G)4.d. and J6. BLANK ENTRY FORMS For change of dog or late entries if your Club allows these. J8. AWARD CERTIFICATES J(A)2 K2.c.(3) and (6) WATER QUALIFICATION CERTIFICATES (These may be required if the Test is held between September 1st and April 1st inclusive). TROPHIES Ensure these are cleaned and any form of acknowledgement of receipt available for competitors to sign. Rosettes may also be required. TABLE FOR PRESENTATIONS J8. NOTICE TO SAY WHERE DOGS CAN BE EXERCISED AWAY FROM TEST AREAS
ON THE DAY FIELD TRIAL J REGULATIONS (which include the Gundog Working Test Regulations J(C)). JUDGES BOOKS OR KENNEL CLUB OFFICIAL BINDERS (Waterproof editions are most useful with pens/pencils). RED FLAG (Could be used on cold game test days where it is a simulation of a Field Trial Day). GAME BAGS (For collection of dummies and cold game). RADIOS CLIP BOARDS WITH TEST RESULT SCORE SHEETS (Clear view polybags useful in wet weather). PENS/PENCILS FIRST AID KIT MAP OF THE AREA (DETAILED) This is often useful if a competitor contacts the organiser to say they cannot locate the ground. JUDGES ROSETTES/LABELS CLUB OFFICER LABELS These are useful for the new members/spectators and conversely to the old members if they are new Club Officers. INCIDENT BOOK NON-MEMBERS SIGNING IN BOOK (If applicable to your insurance policy).

DUMMY/COLD GAME THROWERS Ensure that these helpers are aware of the requirements relating to each sub-group. GUN/DUMMY LAUNCHER, AND STARTING PISTOL FIRERS CARRIERS AND RUNNERS HELP FOR LUNCH/REFRESHMENTS COMMITTEE MEMBERS!
BEFORE THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE TEST J(G)4.b. ANNOUNCEMENTS Distribution of all items as required. Announcements as per the Regulations, which may include: Welcome new members Keeper or host may wish to speak Pointers on Safety Transport/Toilet arrangements Introduction of judges/host to all Inform competitors of the scoring system Lunch arrangements Brief judges about any special awards for dogs These announcements are often made by a variety of people. However, depending who is present on the day from the Committee of the Club, it is the Chief Steward who is in charge of the running of the Test after the Test has actually commenced. AFTER THE TEST J5.c.(vi), J(B)2.g., and J(5)5.g. JUDGES To sign prize certificates To decide on any special awards J(A)1.d.
