Courtney has one team interested in playing may need to divide up team and do 3 on 3. For next year, put the location on a matrix so there isn t any challenge in finding a host. 6. Bantam Showcase Female on same weekend as male showcase first two held in Winnipeg. Struggle to get bids in for hosts. Suggestion is made to send requests out sooner for better planning. Ability to secure ice at Iceplex well in advance. Bert to discuss with Scott about getting this out sooner. Question as to why boys schedule is released sooner than female. 7. Midget AA Deadline is November 1 but Bert would like to know sooner to make the schedule. Bert has list of regions who would have teams. Tournament is Dec 9-11.
8. Esso Cup update Meeting every month in Morden. Surpassed goal of advertising. HC was out 2 weeks ago to do a site visit and came to host committee meeting. Ticket sales have started packages are out. Sub committees are meeting monthly as well. Hurdle is the school program bussing issue. There will be alot of work with the Winkler/Morden locations and having to bus the meals. This will also be an extra cost, initial budget was set too low for transportation. 9. Provincial Host Deadline was yesterday, October 1/16 10. Provincial Team Placements Last year, waited to meeting in January didn t work so well. Bert suggests having a conference call sooner. Other call is happening on December 12. Keith thought January worked well but meeting wouldn t be until January 20 only 5 weeks to secure hotels, etc for teams. Bert suggests if any regions have teams with females playing on male teams, to form a female provincial team to entice them in joining female teams in the future. 11. Rural Female Leagues What are the plans for the rural leagues? Eastman is not having a league teams playing in Winnipeg. PV is the same. Brandon is the only established Midget league left. INT has teams going to Winnipeg as well. PV plays amongst themselves. CP is forming teams for provincials females have no interest in making anything permanent or coming off male rosters. Deadline is December 1. PK has alot of girls. 12. Sports School update Bert said there is no update. At previous meeting only concern expressed was the June 15 deadline one school wanted an extension. Ferdi asked about sanction against Futures Hockey (Shaftesbury) and the tournament from last year. 13. Girls Hockey United weekend December 9-11. ScotiaFest and Bantam Showcase is also that weekend. Bert is inviting Joanne Hughes from HC. Development sessions being planned. Challenge with so much going on that weekend will be ice availability.
14. Pee Wee All Star Team CWHL has requested an team to send to Ontario March 3-6. Bert is looking into development model. Perception is it looks like a spring team idea. Bert to find out more from other branches and their thoughts. Bert has all information if anyone wants to see it. Discussion also taking place in Development council regarding this as well. 15. MFMHL Brad - League is underway. Games started yesterday. The whole league is participating in Female Fights Cancer fundraiser. There is a concern of having female refs provided. Player promotion is a focus (successes, rookie of the year, top d, top f, etc). Looking for a new league trophy. Has a corporate sponsor willing to support. Need a name for trophy someone who has been instrumental in developing female hockey in Manitoba. It s noted this is the leagues 10 th season. Bill remarks about female officials the 4 man system HM is adopting because of Esso Cup and that the branch could possibly support the expense of the extra official. Developing more female officials needs to be a priority. 16. MWJHL Linda going to Thunder Bay. Goal is to promote female hockey in Canada. Sending 2 teams to tournament. ACC in Brandon has joined a college league in the US but are hoping they will still participate in the LG, as well as BC for sure, possibly AB. First memorial golf tournament for Darcy this summer put on by her family. Planning second European trip. Interest has been more than last time. League started on Sept 24 with big kick off and first game went into OT. Tryout time saw alot of females register but not show up. Goalies are becoming a bigger issue. 17. Senior Womens Courtney one extra team this year. B/C of this costs are lower. Westerns are no more. Some teams have expressed cancelling provincials by same teams are included as in playoffs the weekend before. Bert suggests this be decided on sooner rather than later. Only loop hole would be any teams formed just for purpose of provincials. December 15 deadline date will give a better indication. Possibility of participating in HM Cup instead? Bert suggests to Linda of holding officials clinics at Junior events to entice more females. They are trying already to mentor with them for the coaching program. Dustin FPP is FBP but dropped by a category. Skills portion is extended. Incorporate positions specific skills. Tech package is laid out with full explanations. Will be a six week program, with end of April in portage will be final tournament for FPP. Coach sessions included in weekend. Teams would have to be selected before the beginning of the six weeks (depending on
registration). Roster size will also depend on interest would like to have larger roster. Roster through six week program will remain together until tournament. U16 program lead up to U18. Chewy in charge of scouting, looking at other independent people, possibly, Shawn Fisher from the Bisons. Utilizing club team coaches request is after BS, the coaches will rank and suggest players from their rosters. There will be a Top 100 camp, same time as U18 beginning of April at Seven Oaks. Question about Midget girls and which program would they be bound to? U16 or U18? Top 40 camp will also run similar but a bit more condensed than U18. All taking place in Portage. Expectation going forward is to wait until after Canada Games to implement a National Championship but HM in the meantime doing something with Western branches. Applications for both U18 and U16 staff will go out at the same time. Struggling to find female coaches. HC will pay for a We Are Coaches clinic if there are enough to register. For U18, possibility of decreasing Top 100 because group is diluted. Issue of who scouts for the program, how should the names be submitted for consideration? 18. HC update Making female hockey more appealing Esso Fun Days, World Girls Hockey weekend, First Shift program. Long Game discussion. Look at prime times to hold coaches clinics. Peewee tournament in Quebec organizers would like to have a female version(division). Asked for letter to come from Tom Renney. 2018 Esso Cup will be held in Lunenberg County.
