Baylor Junior Emily Fukuchi s two assists Friday night moved her into a tie for fifth place in the Baylor record book for career points with 33, tying four-year letterwinner Britt Talley, who recorded nine goals and 15 assists from 1996-1999. Friday night was the first multi-assist game of her career. Fukuchi already ranks fourth on the Bears career leader board for most goals. Sophomore Ginny Rosario-Tull s goal Friday moved her into ninth place in Baylor history with 26 career points (10 goals, six assists). Rosario-Tull also became just the fifth Bear to record 10 or more career goals, moving into fifth place on BU s career leader board for most goals. The Bears are now 12-4 at home since the start of the 2001 season, with two of the four losses coming to Top 25 teams. Colorado Still in search of its first conference win of the season, Colorado fell on the short end of a 2-0 score to No. 8 Texas A&M and a 1-0 shortcoming to Texas, only a Longhorns penalty kick in the 32nd minute prevented the Buffs from forcing an overtime decision against the fourth-ranked team in the nation. The weekend marked the first time that Colorado was challenged by a pair of Top 10 teams at home in the same weekend in the history of the program. Against the Aggies, Colorado allowed just one first-half score for just the second time in the eight-game series between the two programs and it was the first time since the 99 season that A&M blanked a CU squad. The Texas loss was CU s tightest game against the Longhorns since a 1-0 first-round loss in the 1997 Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio. Colorado had the chance to send the game into an extra period, but Fran Munnelly s shot with six ticks remaining in regulation hit the crossbar and deflected wide right. Iowa State Iowa State defeated both Big 12 co-leaders Oklahoma and Oklahoma State by identical 2-1 scores. The sweep of the Oklahoma schools is ISU s second in history, with the other coming in 1998. Eleven of Iowa State s 14 games against the two schools have been decided by one goal or less. Iowa State s double overtime victory over the Sooners was the fourth consecutive overtime game in the series and the third straight that went to a second extra session. The Cyclones improved to 4-0 all-time at home against OU. ISU s victory over then-10-0 Oklahoma State marks the second time ISU has defeated an opponent with 10 or more wins. ISU beat 10-4 Westmar by a 3-0 count on Oct. 19, 1997. Cyclone Kelly Burke scored the first two goals of her career in the two victories, and Amy Flores notched her first career goal. Kansas KU soccer lost to Baylor 2-1 and defeated Texas Tech 2-1 in Big 12 Conference matches over the weekend. The loss to Baylor snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak, the longest in school history. KU sophomore Lauren Williams, who s father Barrie once ran track at KU, scored her first career goal in the Baylor match. In the Texas Tech match, KU rallied from a 1-0 deficit, scoring two goals in the last 14 minutes to pull out a 2-1 win. Freshman BIG 12 SOCCER NOTES Jessica Smith scored her first career goal in dramatic fashion, taking a crossing pass from sophomore Amy Geha and scoring on a header with 24 seconds left in the match. Senior Brianna Valento scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute, also on a header. Freshman Caroline Smith failed to score in the Baylor match, snapping her six match streak of scoring or assisting on a goal. Senior defender Lindsay Hunting had two assists on the weekend to give her four for the season. KU is 3-1-2 all-time against Okahoma State. Last year Monica Brothers recorded a hat trick, as the Jayhawks defeated the Cowgirls 5-3 in Stillwater. KU is 3-2 all-time against Oklahoma. KU downed the Sooners 2-0 last year in Lawrence with Rachel Gilfillan and Brooke Jones netting goals for the Jayhawks. Missouri The Tigers are 7-2-1, including five overtime games in a single season -- a Missouri record. Mizzou is 2-1-1 in Big 12 play. Mizzou totes an almost perfect 5-0-1 road record, including a tie over then-no. 10 ranked Florida State and a victory over then-no. 23 ranked Miami. The Tigers five goals against Texas Tech are the most goals scored against an opponent in 2002. Nebraska The No. 16 Nebraska soccer team fell to No. 4 Texas and No. 8 Texas A&M over the weekend. The losses drop NU to 5-4-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in Big 12 play. Nebraska played well against Texas A&M, but missed a couple of key scoring opportunities, leading to a 3-2 loss. Freshman Nikki Baker scored the first goal of the game against the Aggies at the 3:15 mark. Kori Saunders also scored for the Huskers to tie the game at 2-2 in the second half, but Linsey Woodard scored the game-winning goal for the Aggies. The Longhorns dropped the Huskers, 4-0, Friday night as Nebraska struggled to get anything going offensively. The Husker defense played a tough game, despite giving up four goals, thwarting several Texas scoring attacks. Nebraska goalkeeper Erin Miller tied the school record for saves in a single game with 12. Nebraska will take on Memphis Friday night in Lincoln before traveling to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State Sunday. Oklahoma The Sooners split their games with TCU and Iowa State over the weekend. On Friday evening, Oklahoma scored on a penalty kick in the fourth minute of play and never looked back in a 2-0 win over TCU at John Crain Field. The Sooners (9-3-0, 2-1-0 Big 12) notched their seventh-straight home win and boosted their record to 13-1-1 in Norman over the past two seasons. On Sunday in Ames, Iowa, OU suffered its first Big 12 loss when Iowa State midfielder Kelly Burke knocked in the loose ball off a free kick in the second overtime and the Cyclones upended OU, 2-1. The doubleovertime game was the first time this season the Sooners didn t have a game decided at the end of regulation. But it wasn t a surprise it came against the Cyclones. The last five matchups in the series have been decided by just one goal with the last four decided in overtime. The Sooners return home to host Missouri on Oct. 11 and then travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Oct. 13 to play the Jayhawks. Oklahoma State Oklahoma State suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday, falling to Iowa State, 2-1. The game marked the first time OSU has surrendered more than one goal, having given up just four in the previous 10 contests. It also ended a string of four 2-0 shutouts and was the first goal the Cowgirls have surrendered since the Arkansas contest on Sept. 15. Jere Boykin scored the lone Cowgirl goal of the game to up her season total to a team-leading six. Texas An 8-2-1 record through 11 games marks Texas best start in the history of the program. With wins over No. 16 Nebraska and Colorado on the road this past weekend, Texas is now unbeaten over its last six matches and holds a 3-0 conference record to tie for first in the Big 12 standings. Over the last six contests, the Texas offense has outscored its opponents by a 21-1 margin and the Texas defense has recorded five shutouts, including three in a row to have now held its opposition scoreless for 310 consecutive minutes. The Longhorns have now won nine of their last 10 games on the road dating back to last season. Texas 4-0 win over Nebraska marked the Horns first road victory against the Huskers in five attempts and their second-ever shutout of Nebraska. Sophomore Kelly Wilson tallied the gamewinning goal and two assists opposite No. 16 Nebraska on Oct. 4 to mark her second fourpoint performance against the Huskers in two career games. Sophomore Kelly McDonald s hat trick opposite No. 16 Nebraska on Oct. 4 was the seventh in UT history, the first recorded by a UT player on the road, and the first for a Longhorn since Abby Gutowski netted three scores against Kansas on Oct. 15, 2000. Texas A&M Texas A&M improved its winning streak to seven games with the pair of road wins this weekend. Last season, Texas A&M had an 11- match winning streak that ended in the 4-1 loss to Portland in the NCAA quarterfinals. The Aggie offense has outshot its opponents 254-99 this season. Much of this is due to the Aggies smothering defensive back headed by Jessica Martin, Shannon Labhart and Martha Moore. Eleven different players have scored goals for Texas A&M this season and 15 players have contributed with at least an assist. Linsey Woodard leads the way with 21 points (10 goals, 1 assist) followed by Heather Ragsdale with 13 (5 goals, 3 assists). Texas Tech Freshman goalkeeper Beth Lippert, ranked third in the Big 12 with 52 saves, has made five or more saves in her last six games played. In the game against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 22, Head Coach Felix Oskam coached his 100 th game at the helm of the Red Raiders. Senior Lindsey Wile has made 69 consecutive starts for the Red Raiders. She has started and played every game for Tech since the 1999 season.
