Veterans Boulevard (formerly Boundary Road) This two-year construction project will widen and pave all of Veterans Boulevard. In 2017, the first portion of the road from Highway 16A to 44 Avenue was completed. The remainder of the road is expected to be finished in 2018. The north end will have four lanes, and the south end will have two lanes. New sidewalks and walking trails will be added, and residents can feel safe travelling between highways 16A and 628. By fully paving Veterans Boulevard, the Town is fulfilling its commitment to the complete streets philosophy. The new roadway will increase the Town s north-to-south interconnectivity, prepare the community for future developments east of Veterans Boulevard, and improve access to the rest of Town. UPDATES 11/14/2018: The remaining stretch of Veterans Boulevard (from Fairways Drive to Highway 628) will open completely to all traffic this Saturday, November 17. Until then, please remember the road is open to local traffic only. 10/25/2018: Paving of the final stretch of road is now complete. Fortis will be installing lights along the road over the next two weeks. Once all lights are installed, the remaining stretch of road will open. The expected open date is November 8. Minor landscaping and grading work will be ongoing. Remember the road is still an active construction zone and is currently CLOSED to the public. Respect construction signage and leave barriers in place. 10/22/2018: Paving work took place this past weekend. Streetlight and transformer installation is ongoing, as well as grading of ditches and boulevards. 10/12/2018: Paving of the last stretch of road is scheduled for next week but is weather dependent. Work is still on schedule to have the remaining portion of Veteran's Boulevard (from Fairways Drive to Highway 628) open by the end of the month. 10/05/2018: Much of the paving on the second portion of the road from Fairways Drive to Highway 628 has been done. Please remember this stretch of the road is still closed and will remain so until the final section is completed. 09/27/2018: Work is still on track to have the second portion of the road open next month. CN is continuing to haul along Veterans Blvd. Once CN has completed their work, they will be responsible for cleaning any mess left behind on roadways.

09/20/2018: The landscaping inspection on the portion of Veterans Boulevard between Highway 16A and Fairways Drive has been completed. The speed limit has been raised to 60 km/hour. Thank you for slowing down when the limit was 30 km/hour. CN has begun hauling along the road and will continue to do so over the next month. Eventually, CN will close some lanes temporarily. The portion of road between Fairways Drive and Highway 628 is on track to open next month so long as the weather cooperates. 09/10/2018: Construction on Veterans Boulevard between Highway 16A and Fairways Drive is ready for inspection. Work south of Fairways Drive is expected to be substantially performed by the end of September or beginning or October, so long as the weather cooperates. This means the road will be largely ready for use, but peripheral work, including final inspections and any necessary deficiency repairs, will still need to be completed. The following work remains: 200 metres of roadway to be constructed along the transition from Veterans Boulevard to the Highway 628 intersection. Streetlight work south of Fairways Drive is currently being scheduled. Final grading and topsoil are being place south of Fairways to the extent of the constructed roadway. Because the regulatory bird migration period has passed and a bird's next sweep has been completed, the Qualico ditch is ready to be cleared once some details on fencing have been finalized. The Town is currently working with Fortis on a joint use agreement to allow placement of LED speed signs on Fortis street light poles. 08/30/2018: Landscaping is mostly finished and final sodding work is now being done. This work is expected to be complete by September 7. The section of the road from Fairways Drive south to Hwy 628 is expected to be complete and workers off site by mid-october. 08/16/2018: Landscaping work on the stretch of road from Highway 16A to the Fairways Drive intersection will be complete by the end of the month. At that time, the section of road, along with the trails, will open completely and return to a normal speed limit of 60 km/hour. 08/10/2018: Landscaping is ongoing and the area remains an active construction zone with a speed limit of 30 km/h. The timing of the lights at Veterans Boulevard and 44th has been adjusted. Work continues from the Fairways Drive intersection south to Highway 628. This portion of the roadway remains on track to open by the end of the construction season. 07/31/2018: It's open! Veterans Boulevard from Highway 16A to just past the Fairways Drive intersection is now open to the public. Please remember this area remains an active construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 30 km/hour. Drive carefully to keep workers safe. Landscaping and line painting work is expected to be finished by mid-august. The remainder of the roadway (Fairways Drive south to Highway 628) will remain closed until it is completed in September. Construction timelines are weather dependent.

07/26/2018: In preparation for the opening of Veterans Boulevard, the traffic lights at 44 Avenue are now flashing yellow and red. Please obey the traffic signals and keep our construction workers and your families safe. Barricades are in place south of the intersection because the road is not open to the public. It is illegal to remove the barricades or trespass on the closed road. 07/19/2018: Veterans Boulevard from Highway 16A to just past the Fairways Drive intersection will reopen on July 31. This area remains an active construction zone while landscaping and line painting is completed. This work is expected to be finished by mid- August. For this reason, and to ensure public safety, the speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h. Drive carefully to ensure the safety of the workers in the area. The remainder of the roadway (Fairways Drive south to Highway 628) will remain closed until it is completed in September. Construction timelines are weather dependent. 07/05/2018: Work is still on schedule to open Veterans Blvd from Highway 16A to Fairways Drive open by July 31. 07/03/2018: From July 4 to approximately July 9, CN will be twinning the tracks on Veterans Boulevard. In order to continue paving, the Town is allowing temporary gravel hauling along Fairways Drive. Drivers have been advised to slow down and watch for children. Please watch for trucks. 06/22/2018: Underground infrastructure is complete to south of the Fairways Drive intersection. Concrete and paving work is in progress. Landscaping north of the CN crossing is mostly complete. Trails are currently being paved. Construction is on schedule. 06/07/2018: Construction on Veterans Boulevard continues to be on track for the mid-to-late July opening of the portion of road from Fairways Drive north to Highway 16A. Paving and laying of concrete is now taking place, and the trail near 44th Ave has been paved. 05/28/2018: Veterans Boulevard construction is on schedule. We remind residents that the road from Fairways Drive south is CLOSED. Local traffic only applies to the RV storage facility (with access from 79th Avenue) and the one farm located on the road. All other residents must use the detour. Driving around the barricades is unsafe and slows construction. 05/14/2018: Council heard an update on the Veterans Boulevard construction project during the Regular Council Meeting on May 14. The presentation included background information on the project, a recap of existing work completed to date, and a proposed schedule for the current construction season. 05/04/2018: Veterans Blvd update: Crews will be on site next week to begin construction. Updates on all projects taking place this construction season will be posted on www.stonyplain.com/construction as they occur.

04/27/2018: With this beautiful spring weather, many have been asking about the Veterans Boulevard construction project. While we are enjoying these warm temperatures, there is still frost in the ground. The project start-up meeting is next week; the 2018 construction schedule for the project will be worked out between the contractor and the Planning department of the Town. Just a reminder, Veterans Blvd is closed from 44th Ave to Hwy 628, local traffic only refers to the three properties along Veterans Blvd. The Town appreciates your patience during year two of this construction project. 04/15/2018: Veterans Boulevard, from Fairways Drive intersection south to Secondary Highway 628, is now CLOSED until the end of the construction project. Construction will recommence when the frost is out of the ground this spring. The entire road is scheduled to be complete by the end of the 2018 construction season. 11/24/2017: Boundary Road, from Fairways Drive intersection south to Secondary Highway 628, is open for the winter. Town crews will maintain the road for the winter. The speed limit will be 50km/h to ensure safety on the temporary surface. Please note that this is still a construction zone. The road will closed in the spring when construction resumes. 11/14/2017: Paving of Boundary Road is complete from Highway 16A south to 44 th Avenue. This section of Boundary Road was reopened to the public in late October. Boundary Road further south from 44th Avenue to Fairway Drive including the CN Railway crossing is now closed to the public until roadway reconstruction completion in year 2 (2018). On November 24 th the contractor will reopen the intersection of Fairway Drive at Boundary Road to Highway 628 to two way traffic. Further, the Town of Stony Plain has assumed the winter maintenance of Boundary Road from Fairway Drive to Highway 628 and will keep this portion of the roadway open until closed to complete reconstruction in April or May of 2018. This Capital Project remains on target for its planned September 2018 completion. 10/26/2017: On Tuesday, October 31 at 10:00AM, Boundary Road will be OPEN from Highway 16A to 44 Avenue. South of 44 Avenue will continue to be closed until completion. Concrete barriers will be in place for the safety of drivers. There will be temporary traffic control measures at the corner of 44 Avenue and Boundary Road until the permanent traffic lights are installed. 10/13/2017: Currently paving is occurring from 16A to 44 Avenue and will be completed before the end of October allowing Boundary Road from Highway 16A to 44 Avenue to be reopened to the public by late October. 44 th Avenue to Graybriar Drive should be open to the public by late November, and Graybriar Drive to Fairway Drive should be partially reopened to the public by mid-december. All three dates are dependent on street light installation. 09/06/2017: The tentative completion date of Boundary Road from 44th Avenue to Graybriar Drive is October 28. Construction on Boundary Road between Graybriar Drive and Fairway Drive will be complete on approximately November 15.

09/05/2017: Concrete works and roadway structure between Highway 16A and 44 Avenue is estimated to be complete by September 25. Street lights and traffic signals will follow. Boundary Road from 16A to 44 Avenue is expected to be open to the public on October 15. 07/06/2017: Beginning Thursday, July 13, Boundary Road will be fully closed from Highway 16A to Fairway Drive. Residents of Graybriar will be detoured through Briarwood Way for the duration of this critical construction season. There will be NO ACCESS to Fairway Drive from Boundary Road. Only residents who live directly on Boundary Road will have access to their properties. Please adhere to speed limits and be aware of increased traffic through this detour. 07/04/2017: The Town of Stony Plain's engineer, Associated Engineering, has reviewed the preliminary Incident Reports with the Prime Contractor, sub-contractor, and ATCO Gas. These initial reviews have confirmed adequate safety measures are in place to the satisfaction of the overseeing engineer. The Boundary Road Construction project was permitted to continue this morning at 9:30 AM. A provincial Occupation Health and Safety investigation remains ongoing. A report will be tabled at the July 10th regular Council meeting. 06/29/2017: The Boundary Road expansion project has been suspended pending a full incident investigation by the Town of Stony Plain and the construction contractor after a gas line was struck resulting in a fire this morning. 06/28/2017: Boundary Road between Graybriar Drive and 16A is closed to all traffic. This includes all pedestrians. It is a significant safety risk to any individual trying to walk through an active construction zone at any time of day. Further, it could result in criminal charges for trespass being laid by the Town. Please be safe. 06/02/2017: Briarwood Way is now open! 05/29/2017: Construction has started on Highway 16A. Please slow down near the construction zone.
