Kansas City Unit Gopher News WBCCI Kansas City, MO Unit 059 President s Message September is a big month for our KC Unit. Each Fall we elect Officers for the coming year. It is a chance for each of us to rededicate ourselves to the club and its leadership. Membership in the club demands very little, and paying dues is only a small part of what the club requires. Your Officers need each member to be ready, willing, and able to "Step Up" when called upon. Many new members are unsure of what to do or how to help. To them I say: watch -- and ask lots of questions. To members who have been in the Unit for more that 3 Years, I say: it's time. Being a part of the Unit's Leadership Team is an opportunity to "learn, do and grow". I know of no one who has held office or chaired a committee and had regrets. When you serve, you get to help everyone, not just yourself. To those who have held an office, I say "Thank You" and suggest sharing your experience and help your Currently-Seated Officers. When you have their backs, your Leadership Team will do great things for this Unit. The small things really count and add up. Host a Luncheon Help to Host a Rally Be a Calling-Tree Team Member Help with Setup or Cleanup at Luncheons or Rallies There are many small things each of us can do to make our club strong and successful. During 2019, please increase your efforts to help your Unit. You won't regret it. Kansas City Unit GOPHER NEWS Page 2 XXX Member Health News Good news from Pat and Glen Harris. Pat's current medications seem to be working and she is improving very slowly. We are all pulling for her and praying that Glen and Pat will be able to dine with us at the Christmas luncheon in December. All reports from Wendell and Sheryl Sisk are positive. Wendell has had a bad fall, but is now in Skilled Nursing and making good progress. Wendell, we re hoping to see you soon. Good news from Beth McCall - she has not had any additional broken vertebra in many weeks. Hopefully this is a sign of good progress. This coming week David will get his knees evaluated for treatment or replacement. David continues to do his daily pastoral calling with the church youth group. We all love you McCalls! (We saw the big-horned sheep, but we missed the bear.) The general area offers incredible views and great opportunities for fishing, white-water rafting, and hiking. There are many public access parks along the river, and the mountain towns Salida and Buena Vista have especially nice river parks and walking trails. We noted three public hot springs as well as unique restaurants, art galleries, and breweries. The Royal Gorge is one hour away and the Great Sand Dunes are two hours away. Nearby, Cutty s RV Park nestled in the mountains at 8,000 feet, also looks like a great place for a mountain stay. - Tim Timmons Got a Campground Review you d like to share with the other KC Unit Members?
