Carter Stadium. 4TCU is 26-8 in regular-season games following a loss under head coach Gary Patterson. 4Beginning with last year s contest at Kansas, the Horned Frogs are 4-1 in 11 a.m. games over the last two seasons. Saturday will mark TCU s third 11 a.m. kickoff in three home games this year. 4TCU is playing its second season in Amon G. Carter Stadium after its $164 million rebuild. In August 2013, Yahoo! Sports ranked Amon G. Carter Stadium as the best stadium in the Big 12. 4Even though Kansas has not played TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium since 1996, the Jayhawks did play at TCU in 2005 when they faced Houston in the Fort Worth Bowl. SERIES NOTES 4TCU holds a 17-8-4 edge over Kansas in a series that dates back to a 41-6 Horned Frog win in Fort Worth in 1942. 4TCU is 7-2-2 versus the Jayhawks in Fort Worth and 10-6 in Lawrence. The schools played back-toback scoreless ties in the 1946 and 1947 seasons in Kansas City. 4Last year s 20-6 TCU victory at Kansas marked the Horned Frogs inaugural Big 12 game. 4Prior to last season, TCU and Kansas had not met on the gridiron since a 17-10 KU victory in Lawrence in 1997, the year before Gary Patterson arrived at TCU as defensive coordinator. FAMILIAR FACES 4TCU linebackers coach DeMontie Cross served in the same capacity for Kansas last season. 4Kansas defensive line coach Buddy Wyatt was a four-year letterman (1986-89) for the Horned Frogs. 4TCU faced KU starting quarterback Jake Heaps in 2010 when he was at BYU. Andy Dalton threw four touchdown passes to lead the Horned Frogs to a 31-3 win over Heaps and the Cougars. KANSAS NATIVES 4TCU football coach Gary Patterson was born in Larned, Kan., and is a native of Rozel, Kan. 4Patterson went to Pawnee Heights High School in Rozel and then Dodge City Community College, before being a walk-on linebacker at Kansas State from 1980-81. He is a 1983 graduate of K-State. 4TCU has two players on its roster from Kansas: offensive guard Brady Foltz (Rose Hill) and quarterback Tyler Matthews (McPherson). DEFENDING ITS HOME 4TCU has won 30 of its last 35 home games and is 60-11 under Gary Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium. 4In its last 24 home dates, TCU has allowed just 45 touchdowns and outscored its opponents 1,009-375 (an average margin of 42-16). 4The Horned Frogs have recorded seven shutouts in their past 41 home dates. 4Since 1999, TCU is 71-11 in its last 82 home games. TCU NOTABLES 4 TCU has just 10 scholarship seniors on this year s roster. 4 Nearly 40 percent of players who have seen action for TCU this season are sophomores. 4 The Sagarin Ratings, utilized by the BCS, have TCU playing the nation s toughest schedule to date. 4 The Horned Frogs played three current top-20 teams (LSU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma) in their opening five games. Against both LSU and Oklahoma, TCU had the ball with an opportunity to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The Horned Frogs and Texas Tech were tied with less than four minutes to play. 4 TCU tops the Big 12 and is third nationally with its average of 3.6 sacks per game. 4Since 2012, TCU All-America cornerback Jason Verrett leads the nation in passes defended (31). 4TCU is the lone school in the nation to rank in the top five in kickoff return average (30.2 yards) and top 20 in punt returns (14.3 yards). 1 I 2013 TCU FOOTBALL

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Casey Pachall completed 24-of-30 pass attempts for 335 yards and two touchdowns, helping TCU overcome four fumbles to defeat Kansas in its inaugural Big 12 game, 20-6. Pachall s passing total marked his third career 300-yard game and his second-best output as a Horned Frog. Brandon Carter hauled in a career-best eight receptions for 141 yards and both of Pachall s scoring passes, one in the first quarter and another in the third. Carter s second TD came on a highlight-reel grab that saw him pick a deep ball out of the air over a Jayhawk defender and tightrope the sideline into the end zone for a 25-yard completion. Waymon James led the Horned Frog rushing attack with 99 yards on 12 carries. TCU s offense totaled 487 yards and was forced to punt only once in the contest. The Horned Frog defense, led by 12 tackles and a pair of sacks by linebacker Joel Hasley, kept the opponent out of the end zone for the second straight week. KU managed just 77 yards on the ground, while TCU limited Jayhawks signal caller Dayne Crist to a 19-of-39 showing through the air. Sam Carter recorded his first career interception in the second quarter, which led to Brandon Carter s first touchdown. CLUTCH PLAY 4Trevone Boykin showed a penchant for coming through in the clutch last season. 4The Horned Frogs trailed West Virginia by 10 points in the second half. After pulling TCU even, Boykin had to rally his team again with a 94-yard touchdown pass to Josh Boyce with 1:28 left to force overtime. 4With TCU down 36-26 and just 4:01 to play against Texas Tech, Boykin completed 7-of-9 passes for 122 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown to LaDarius Brown on a third-and-20, in leading the Horned Frogs on a pair of scoring drives to force overtime. 4Boykin was 13-of-13 on third-down passes at Baylor with 11 first-down completions. All four touchdown tosses were on third-down throws. IT S A RUSH 4The Horned Frogs are 64-4 when rushing for at least 200 yards under Gary Patterson as head coach. THRee-HEADED MONSTER 4Trevone Boykin (59), B.J. Catalon (45) and Waymon James (41) have totaled 145 of TCU s 171 rushing attempts (84.8 percent) this season. NO SOPHOMORE JINX 4Tailback B.J. Catalon joins Auburn s Tre Mason as the only players in the nation with a rushing touchdown and kickoff return for a touchdown this season. 4After leading TCU in rushing as a true freshman last season, Catalon has a team-high 222 yards (4.9 per carry) and four touchdowns in 2013. 4Catalon has run for a touchdown in four of five games this season after not recording a rushing score last year. 4Catalon is tied for fifth in the Big 12 with nine carries of at least 10 yards this season. 5 I 2013 TCU FOOTBALL

He totaled 159 return yards, a team-high 52 yards rushing and 22 yards receiving on three catches. HE S BACK 4After suffering a season-ending injury in the second game last season, Waymon James returned to action this fall. 4James is second on the Horned Frogs with 199 yards rushing on a 4.9 per carry mark. He has run for a score in three of the opening five games. 4On his lone kickoff return this season, he had a 51- yard effort to open the Southeastern Louisiana game. 4In his two contests last season, James ran for 168 yards on a 9.9 per carry mark. 4James was TCU s leading rusher with 875 yards (7.2 per carry) in 2011. 4As a redshirt freshman in 2010, James picked up the first down on a 3rd-and-4 in the final minute that enabled TCU to run out the clock in its 21-19 Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. He would only trail Tulsa s Ja Terian Douglas (6.8). YOUTHFUL IMPACT 4TCU leads the Big 12 in highest percentage (76.5) of its scrimmage yards coming from underclassmen. 4The Horned Frogs start just three seniors on offense. 4TCU has no seniors among the 11 wide receivers who appear on the team s depth chart. SPREADING THE WEALTH 4TCU s 86 receptions this season are by 15 different receivers. 4Brandon Carter and Cam White have a team-best 13 catches. NEW FACES 4True freshman Ty Slanina s six receptions at Oklahoma were a career high and the most by a Horned Frog in a game this season. 4Slanina entered the OU game with just five receptions on the year. 4Slanina has had a career-best game in each of the last two contests. 4He had three receptions for 63 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown for the go-ahead points, in a 48-17 win over SMU. 4Ja Juan Story was on the receiving end of TCU s longest play from scrimmage this season when he scored on a 56-yard catch and run against SMU. CHANGING UNIFORMS 4Josh Doctson is the only player in college football history to score a touchdown for and against TCU. 4Doctson is also the only active player in the nation to score a touchdown against his current team. 4Playing for Wyoming, Doctson had a scoring reception against TCU in 2011. 4Doctson is second on TCU with 140 receiving yards while placing fourth with his nine catches (15.6 average). 3 Receptions by Trevone Boykin, tying for the team lead, in the Southeastern Louisiana game. 6 Receptions at Oklahoma by true freshman Ty Slanina, marking the most in a game by a Horned Frog this season. 6.6 Waymon James career per carry average which ranks first all-time at TCU. 15 Horned Frogs with at least one catch this season. 101 Rushing yards by Trevone Boykin at Texas Tech, making him the first TCU quarterback to top 100 yards since David Rascoe (105) versus BYU on Sept. 19, 1987. 233 B.J. FROG DEFENSIVE NOTES A TCU TRADITION 4Since the NCAA began tracking statistics in 1937, TCU trails only Alabama for the most times leading the nation in total defense. The Crimson Tide have been No. 1 six times, while all five No. 1 rankings for the Horned Frogs are in the last 12 seasons. 4In 2010, TCU became just the third program in NCAA history to top the nation in total defense in three consecutive seasons (2008-10). The others are Toledo (1969-71) and Oklahoma (1985-87). YOUNG FACES 4Even with eight starters returning, TCU has just three seniors (Jon Koontz, Elisha Olabode, Jason Verrett) in first-team positions on its depth chart. DEFENDING THE PASS 4Prior to Oklahoma s Blake Bell completing 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of his passes, TCU had the nation s longest current streak (10 games) for holding its opponent to less than a 60 percent completion percentage. 4TCU opponents are completing just 54.3 percent of their pass attempts this season. Carter Stadium as the best stadium in the Big 12. HORNED FROGS FEVER 4TCU has sold out 14 of its last 16 dates, and 16 of the past 22, at Amon G. Carter Stadium. 4For the second straight year, TCU sold out of football season tickets and has a waiting list. This year s new record number of season tickets sold is 31,425. 4TCU has set a school record for season ticket sales in each of the last four years. 4Three of the top-five home crowds in TCU history came last season. The 47,894 for Texas Tech ranked second, the 47,501 for Oklahoma was third and the 47,292 for Kansas State placed fifth. The top mark is 50,307 versus Utah in 2009. 4Nearly 35,000 TCU fans traveled to the 2011 Rose Bowl. Over 20,000 made the trip the previous year to the Fiesta Bowl. TCU QUICK HITS 4The Horned Frogs have finished in the top 25 in six of the last eight seasons. 4TCU is the only school in the nation to win at least 11 games in six of the last eight years. 4TCU is one of eight teams (Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Stanford, Wisconsin) to play in a BCS game two of the last four seasons. 4TCU is 4-2 in its last six games against opponents ranked in the top five. 4TCU has won 47 of its last 59 games and is 59-14 in its last 73 contests. ST. LOUIS CARDINAL FACTOR 4Only St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller can say he s been a teammate of both TCU quarterback Casey Pachall and former Horned Frog and current Cardinals All-Star second baseman Matt Carpenter. 4Miller and Pachall were friends growing up in Brownwood, Texas. On their seventh grade football team, Pachall was the tight end with Miller at quarterback. 4Miller and Pachall were later baseball teammates at Brownwood High School. While Miller was impressing enough on the mound to be a first-round Cardinals draft pick in 2009, Pachall was flashing the leather at third base. SHUTOUTS 4The Horned Frogs have recorded 10 shutouts in Gary Patterson s 13 seasons as head coach, including at least one blanking in each of the last four years. DUCK DYNASTY D-LINE 4Three of TCU s defensive linemen hail from West Monroe (La.) High School: Chucky Hunter, Terrell Lathan and James McFarland. HISTORY MAKING 4On Dec. 5, 2010, TCU became the only team in college football history to receive an invitation to the Rose Bowl and implode its stadium on the same day. 2013 Game-by-Game Starters TCU Offense Pos. In August 2011, Patterson was named the nation s top coach by Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine. Sporting News tabbed him in January 2012 as the nation s third-best coach. He was fourth in an SI.com July 2013 ranking of the nation s best coaches. In leading TCU to back-to-back BCS appearances in the 2009 and 2010 seasons, including a 2011 Rose Bowl championship, Patterson received 10 National Coach of the Year honors. Patterson has produced at least 10 wins in eight of the last 10 years, including seven seasons of 11 or more victories. He has helped lead the Horned Frogs to seven conference titles and 14 bowl games in 15 years. In 12 seasons as TCU s head coach, Patterson has had 33 players drafted with 71 in NFL camps.
