Trojan men s basketball team (2-4 overall record) attempts to extend their two-game winning streak with a non-conference contest at DSU Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening. The Trojans host Dordt (Iowa) (5-2 overall record) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference on Tuesday evening as part of the women s/men s doubleheader. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dakota State is coming off a pair of wins, scoring over 100 points in both contests. DSU defeated GPAC s foe Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 10 in a 105-98 double-overtime thriller. The Trojans followed up with a 112-73 road victory at Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 13 for the second straight victory. Dordt made a furious comeback in the second-half in their 87-85 thriller at No. 17-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Nov. 14. The Defenders were trailing 51-31 by halftime, but outscored the Tigers 56-34 for a two-point victory. DC nailed down a 3-pointer with just six seconds remaining for the lead and held on to the victory. Dordt had won the last six meetings with Dakota State, including a season series sweep last season. The Trojans are seeking for the first win over the Defenders since Nov. 9, 2013 with an 83-65 win at DSU Fieldhouse. Next Up: Dakota State heads to Fremont, Neb. for a pair of games versus GPAC foes in the annual Draemel Classic. DSU faces host-team Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 24 and No. 4 Morningside (Iowa) on Nov. 25. DSU scored 105 points versus Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 10 and 112 points at Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 13. Tuesday s contest mark the fifth different opponent from the Great Plains Athletic Conference that the Trojans had faced this season. DSU is ranked 12th in the NAIA Division II in free-throw percentage (77.7 percent). The Trojans converted 80 free-throws in 103 attempts. Cody Muilenberg recorded a season-high four blocks in Trojans thrilling victory over Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 10. He accumulated six blocks this season, which is 39th-most in the nation. was tabbed as the North Star Athletic Association Men s Basketball Conference Player-of-the-Week after posting his third double-double of the season after DSU s home opener victory over Northwestern.. The Trojans extended their home court winning streak to six games (dating from last season). Dakota State is 16th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.143. Brady Elder ranks seventh in the NAIA Division II with 38 assists. He averages 6.3 assists per game for DSU (13th-best assists average in the nation).

Justin Folkers hit a game-tying 3-pointer to force the game into overtime with Northwestern (Iowa). After both teams scored seven points in first overtime, DSU outscored NWIA 16-9 in second overtime for a 105-98 home thriller victory at DSU Fieldhouse. Northwestern led 37-32 at halftime, but Dakota State rallied back after being down by 11 points in the second-half. DSU outscored NWIA 50-45 in the second-half, tying the ball game at 82-82 by the end of regulation. Leading 98-96, the Trojans pulled away after a 7-0 outburst for a 105-96 lead with less than 15 seconds remaining in the game. All five DSU players scored in double-digits, paced by Justin Folkers with a career-high 32 points and tied his career-high 12 rebounds. Josh McGreal and Brady Elder each added 24 points (career-high for both players). Brady Van Holland and Cody Muilenburg each registered a season-high 10 points. Van Holland produced five assists and stole the ball twice for Dakota State. McGreal and Muilenburg each added four assists. Muilenburg had a game-high four blocked shots in the game. DSU shot 48.6 percent from the field (36-of-74), thanks to a blazing 57.8 percent from the field in the second-half and overtimes. NWIA was 45.5 percent field goal shooting (35-of-77). DSU ROLLS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN Ellendale, N.D. (Nov. 13, 2018) Dakota State (S.D.) scored over 100 points for the second straight game, rolling past Trinity Bible (N.D.) 112-73 at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse. Dakota State and Trinity Bible went through four lead changes and four ties through the first seven-and-half minutes of the game. Tied at 20-20, DSU sparked a 14-0 scoring surge after hitting four straight 3-pointers from Cody Muilenburg, Brady Elder (2 3- pointers) and Carson Rentz for a 34-20 lead. DSU led 55-36 at halftime and never trailed for the rest of the game. The Trojans maintained their double-digits lead in the second-half, outscoring the Lions 57-37 in the final twenty minutes of the game. All five Trojans starters scored in double-digits and hit at least a 3-pointer in the game. led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down six rebounds. Elder added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. Josh McGreal had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rentz had 18 points off the bench. Muilenburg scored 13 points and Brady Van Holland with 10 points. DSU shot 53.7 percent from the field (36-of-57). NSAA TABS FOLKERS FOR WEEKLY HONOR Madison, S.D. (Nov. 12, 2018) Justin Folkers of Dakota State (S.D.) was tabbed as the North Star Athletic Association Men s Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor, the third edition of the weekly honor was announced by the conference office. Folkers 6-foot-9 senior forward posted his third double-double of the season after Trojans 105-98 double overtime thriller over Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 10. He poured in a career-high 32 points on his 11-of-19 field goal shooting, including 6-of-9 from the 3-point line. He also converted 4-of-5 freethrows. Folkers drained a 3-pointer with just 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation and extended the game into overtime tied at 82-82. Folkers also tied his career-high 12 rebounds in the game, all defensive rebounds. He surpassed the 1,000-point milestone at DSU on Nov. 3 versus Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at Sanford Pentagon. 3

During his tenure at Dakota State, the men's basketball program has undergone a transformation from a bottom dweller to a top quality team in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball. Garner guided the Trojans to back-to-back North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) regular-season co-champions and the NSAA's automatic bid to the national tournament after winning the conference postseason tournament from 2014-16. He had took his squads to the NAIA Division II National Tournament four times in a span of five years. The Trojans established a new school record for most consecutive victories in 2015-16, winning nine straight games including capturing the NSAA Men's Basketball Postseason Conference Tournament Championship Game held at DSU Fieldhouse. He was named to the NSAA Conference Coach-of-the-Year after guiding the Trojans to back-to-back conference tournament champions and regular-season conference titles. Garner has surpassed former men's basketball head coach Brian McDermott for the second-most victories as the head coach at Dakota State in 2015-16. Garner has accumulated a total of 136 victories since his arrival at DSU in 2009-10. Along the way, Garner guided his teams to back-to-back Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Postseason Tournament Champions, appearances in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament (advancing to the 'Elite Eight' in 2013) and recorded the most wins (25) in DSU men's basketball team history in 2013. Garner's teams had recorded double digits wins for seven consecutive seasons for the first time in 20 years. He is 136-114 overall record (.544 winning percentage) during his coaching era at Dakota State and 509-413 career collegiate record. Garner was named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013. He recorded his 400th career collegiate win on Nov. 1, 2011 with a 79-53 win over Grace (Neb.) at DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State produced seven All-Conference players, an All- American Second Team athlete, two NAIA All-American Honorable Mention athletes and three Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes during Garner's coaching tenure at Dakota State. Garner's collegiate experience is primarily on the Division I and II levels. Prior to coming to Dakota State, he has served as the assistant coach for Iowa Energy, a team with the NBA Development League, for two seasons (2007-08 and 2008-09). He served as head basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University from 1997-06. From 1991-97, he led the men's team at Fort Hays State University. His 1995-96 team won the NCAA Division II Tournament, capping a perfect 34-0 season. That same year, Garner was named the NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Garner also served stints as head coach at Drake University and Missouri Southern University. He has been an assistant at the University of Missouri and Tulsa University. His coaching career has included multiple appearances at the NCAA Division II Tournament. His Southeast Missouri State team reached the NCAA Division I Tournament in 2000. His record of 63-2 from 1995-97 at Fort Hays State was the best among collegiate coaches. In June 2011, Garner was inducted in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame for his successful coaching era at Fort Hays State University. NATHANIEL RAUEN Assistant Coach 2nd Season Alma Mater: Dakota State (S.D.) Nathaniel Rauen will be entering his sixth year with the Trojan men's basketball program four years as an athlete on the team and starting his second season on the coaching staff. Rauen, originally from Zumbrota, Minn., was a four-year letter winner for the Trojans. He was an integral member of the DSU men's basketball team that won back-to-back North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) men's basketball regularseason and postseason conference titles in 2015 and 2016. In addition, the Trojans qualified for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament those seasons. He was also a four-time North Star Winter Sports Scholar-Athlete. Upon graduation with his degree in secondary math education in 2017, Rauen enrolled in the MSET graduate program at Dakota State University. He is completing his third semester of the master's program and plans to graduate this December. Rauen was the head junior varsity as well as a graduate assistant coach this past season for the Trojan men's basketball program. He resides in Madison, S.D. TREVOR FLEMMER Assistant Coach 1st Season Alma Mater: Presentation (S.D.) Trevor Flemmer is entering his first season as Dakota State University men's basketball assistant coach. He comes from Briar Cliff (Iowa) University where he was a graduate assistant coach in 2017-18 season, taking the Chargers to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament quarterfinals. He was also the junior varsity head coach. Prior coming to Briar Cliff, Flemmer was an assistant men's basketball coach at Riverland Community College in Austin, Minn. He helped guided the squad to a 22-8 record (22 wins was a school record). As an assistant at Riverland, his duties included developing practice plans, assisting during practices and games, recruiting athletes and developing workouts for specific position. Flemmer was also the head strength and conditioning coach for Riverland CC men's basketball team. While coaching at Riverland CC, Flemmer coached cross-fit from 2016 to 2017 and was also the team strength coach at Presentation (S.D.) in 2016. Before coaching cross-fit, Flemmer was the head baseball coach for a 14-year old baseball team in Aberdeen, S.D. from 2013-15. Flemmer played collegiate basketball at Presentation from 2012-16. He graduated from Presentation with a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2016. He earned NAIA scholar-athlete distinction, as well as North Star Athletic Association Scholar athlete award. He was the NSAA Champion of Character recipient during the 2015-16 season.
