Swimmers will swim three clockwise loops of the course and return to the finish line finish on the beach marked with flags through the chute at the computer-timing chip pad. Orange turn buoys and intermediate green buoys are spaced no more than 200 yards apart. Open to
swimmers age 13 & over with successful completion of an open water swim race of 1 mile or longer or an SCS red time in the 1500 meter or 1650 yard freestyle. 1 mile The event will start on the beach approximately 20 feet from the water s edge. Swimmers will swim one clockwise loop of the course and return to the finish line finish on the beach marked with flags through the chute at the computer-timing chip pad. Open to swimmers age 11 & over with successful completion of any open water swim race or an SCS red time in the 400 meter freestyle or longer race. 400 yard The event will start on the beach approximately 20 feet from the water s edge. Swimmers will swim to the first buoy, complete a right-shoulder turn and return to the finish line finish on the beach marked with flags through the chute at the computer-timing chip pad. Open to swimmers age 10 & under with successful completion of any open water swim race or an SCS red time in the 200 yard freestyle or longer race. WATER TEMPERATURE The average water temperature for this time of year IS 63 F and has been between 62 and 68 F in recent years. STARTS/FINISH The event will start on the beach approximately 20 feet from the water s edge. The finish will be on the beach marked with flags. Positioning of Faster Swimmers in Front at Start ELIGIBILTY All swimmers must be registered with USA Swimming for 2015 or foreign equivalents. You must submit a copy of your 2015 USA Swimming card or foreign equivalent with mail in entries. Online registration entries for USA Swimming swimmers will be automatically verified at https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=964&smid=6608. ENTRIES AND FEES Entries are accepted online at https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=964&smid=6608 and can be paid by credit card. Entries must be received before midnight (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Race day entries for the 1-mile and 2.4-mile races will be accepted on the beach at the check-in table; however, there will be an additional $10 fee and all swimmers entering on race day must show their current, valid USA Swimming athlete membership card and a photo ID, along with proof of meeting the entry requirements for their event (either a copy of their relevant times from the SWIMS database or event results from a relevant open water swim event. Entry fee includes refreshments, electronic timing chip, and cap. Entry fees: 2.4 mile race $45, 1 mile race $35, and 400 yard race $25. T-SHIRTS Event T-shirts can be ordered during online entry for $20. T-shirt orders must be received before midnight (Pacific Time) on Friday, May 1, 2015. No late orders will be accepted. RULES USA Swimming open water rules will govern. Current USAS Swimming and SCS Open Water procedures will be enforced and take precedence over any errors or omissions on this entry form. SAFETY/TIME LIMIT For safety reasons, participants should be adequately trained for open water competition. Orange County Lifeguards reserve the right to remove any swimmer from the course. Each swimmer must wear the provided swim cap on their head during the duration of the swim. Removal of the provided swim cap will result in the swimmer being disqualified from the race and escorted to the beach by safety personnel. Previous open water experience is recommended. Swimmers not completing the race course in the required time of 1.5 hours for the 2.4 mile race, 40 minutes for the 1 mile race, and 10 minutes for the 400 yard race will be notified that the race is over and that they must leave the water at that time. Results will show their time as Did Not Finish (DNF).
Safety watercrafts (e.g. jet skis) and lifeguards on paddleboards will monitor the entire course. Swimmers must wear body-marked race numbers on arms and cap for identification. Medical personnel will be on-site. PROOF OF TIME/PERFORMANCE 2.4 mile event Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a SCS red time in a freestyle event 800 meters/1000 yards or longer in their age group or proof of successful completion of an open water event 1 mile or longer within the past year. 1 mile event Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a SCS red time in a freestyle event 400 meters/500 yards or longer in their age group or proof of successful completion of an open water event 0.5 miles or longer within the past year. 400 yard event Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a 10 & Under SCS red time in a freestyle event 200 yards or longer or proof of successful completion of any open water event within the past year. CHIP TIMING Each swimmer will be given a timing chip to wear under his/her swim cap during the race to provide accurate times and finish places. Back-up timing will also be used in case of lost timing chips. Results and awards will be available within 30 minutes of the last swimmer finishing. Timing provided by One Time Racing. CONDITIONS The safety of swimmers is our primary concern. Therefore, this event may be delayed or canceled due to poor conditions. The Event Director and Orange County Lifeguards will make this decision. SWIMWEAR All entrants will receive an official race cap. This cap must be worn during the entire race. No fins, buoys, or other devices will be allowed. Wetsuits are not permitted. AWARDS Medals will be awarded to the top 3 males and females in each age group. Age groups are: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15 & over. Awards will be presented within 30 minutes of the last swimmer finishing. REFUNDS No refunds will be given.
