Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association Scratch Rule Once entered in an event, a swimmer who is not an alternate for that event, may only withdraw or scratch from that event without penalty, in one of the following instances: a.) Timed Finals - 45 minutes before the start of the session, unless published otherwise. b.) Finals Generated by Heats within 30 minutes after the announcement of the qualifiers from Preliminary Heats. c.) Finals NOT Generated by Heats 30 minutes before the start of the final session, unless published otherwise. d.) Heats 45 minutes before the start of the session, unless published otherwise. FAILURE BY A SWIMMER TO EITHER: a.) Scratch in accordance with the above; or b.) Mount the blocks prior to the race being turned over to the starter by the meet referee constitutes a late scratch and may result in the offending swimmer being automatically scratched from all remaining events scheduled for that meet. This rule applies to Age Group and Open Meets. In fairness to the alternate swimmers, and as a courtesy to the coaches and meet officials, it is expected that scratches will be submitted to the desk as soon as possible but within the allotted time. Scratches must be submitted by the Club Coaches*. * It is recommended that in order to help our meets run more efficiently, the swimmers check in with their coach before warm up for registration. The coaches, in turn, will scratch the swimmers who have not reported in, or advised beforehand that they will be late.
