Terry Wymer, Gene Steratore, Rob Kueneman Opening Tip > Sherron Dorsey-Walker of the men's basketball team has been named a 2017 Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches Good Works nominee the NABC announced Wednesday. > Oakland meets with former Summit League rival Oral Roberts Thursday for the 32nd meeting in program history. The series between the two squads began on Jan. 14, 1999 with a Golden Eagles 94-89 OT win. > Oakland and Oral Roberts each earned three Summit League Championships, which is a four-way tie for second in league history. > If the Golden Grizzlies defeat Oral Roberts on Thursday, it would snap a two-game losing streak. Oakland picked up its last win against Oral Roberts on March 8, 2011. > Oakland holds an 8-6 advantage over the Golden Eagles on its home court. > A win on Thursday over Oral Roberts would give Oakland its 750 win in program history. > A Golden Grizzly victory would mean Coach Kampe has coached 75 percent of Oakland's 750 program wins. > In Oakland's 79-66 win over UC Davis, it was the first time this season Oakland shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range. > The Black and Gold earned their 300th win since becoming DI after defeating UC Davis in Anchorage, Alaska. > Oakland is 6-0 this season when holding its opponents to 80 points or less. The Golden Grizzlies lone loss of the season was an 82-78 loss to Nevada at the Great Alaska Shootout Tournament. > Martez Walker has scored in double digits in seven consecutive games, 5-of-7 being 20-plus point performances, including a career-high 25 points against Alaska Anchorage. > Walker earned a spot on the Great Alaska Shootout Tournament team after averaging 19.3 ppg and knocking down a team best 10 triples in three games. >Stevie Clark has dished out 43 assists, including a career-high 11 against Chicago State. Clark's 43 assists is seventh-best in the country, and a OAKLAND GAME NOTES #TEAM50 Horizon League best. Oakland Record: 6-1 Head Coach: Greg Kampe (33rd season) Kampe record at Oakland: 564-416 Oral Roberts Record: 1-5 Head Coach: Scott Sutton (18th season) Musselman record at Nevada: 321-230 > The Golden Grizzlies have pulled down 292 total boards, led by Jalen Hayes who is averaging 6.7 per game. > Oakland boasts a league-best +15.9 scoring margin, holding opponents to 68.7 ppg this season, while averaging 84.6. Wright State is the only other league opponent to record a double-digit scoring margin (+10.5). > Oakland has made a 3-pointer in 877 consecutive games, 9th-best streak in the country. The Last time Oakland did not make a 3 was vs. Wayne State on Jan. 30, 1988. > Kampe is in his 33rd season at Oakland University, the third-longest tenured active D1 coach behind Jim Boeheim (Syracuse/41st season) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke/37th season). > This season Oakland is celebrating the 50th year of men s basketball. The inaugural team (1967-68) posted a 6-15 record and was coached by the late Dick Robinson. > This week the Golden Grizzlies check in at no. 25 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. > Hayes was picked to the preseason all-league first team. Hayes, a 6-foot-7 forward from Lansing, Mich., led the Horizon League a season ago by grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game. He finished second in the league with 15 doubledoubles (No. 29 in NCAA). Hayes earned all-league second team honors a season ago. > Isaiah Brock and Oakland University were informed in October that the NCAA has granted the decorated army veteran immediate eligibility. Brock is a 6-foot-8 freshman forward from Baltimore, Md. > Brock was a non-qualifier out of high school and Oakland submitted a waiver to the NCAA seeking immediate eligibility (athletic aid, practice and competition). The NCAA initially granted two of the three requests, and upon Oakland submitting additional information, the NCAA declared Isaiah eligible on all accounts. > Brock was recognized on Veterans Day on Friday night during the opener vs. BGSU. He is a decorated Army veteran receiving Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, a Army Service Ribbon, and a Certificate of Achievement.
