UAA wrapped up non-conference play with a 3-1-2 record after starting the season undefeated at the Kendall Hockey Classic and at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush... the Seawolves are 8-5-1 all-time at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush, which started in 2008-09 with the win on Oct. 10, UAA is now 10-0-3 in its last 13 season openers and 7-0-3 in its last five Classic appearances... the last time UAA lost a season opener was Oct. 13, 2000 against Michigan State (5-4)... UAA is now 26-14-10 all-time in the Classic additionally, UAA posted a 8-0 win over the Western Ontario Mustangs in an exhibition game on Oct. 4 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex the Seawolves improved to 9-2-0 in the last 11 exhibition games. PLAYER NOTES: Individually, the Seawolves received solid back-to-back performances from freshman G Olivier Mantha in net... Mantha turned aside 37 shots on Oct. 24, before stopping 46 shots on Oct. 25... On Saturday, the La Tuque, Quebec, native stopped a season-high 24 shots in the first frame and an additional six in overtime to secure the 3-3 tie for the Seawolves... the 46 saves was a first for UAA since Jon Olthuis on March 7, 2009... Mantha completed the weekend with a.943 save percentage good for No. 11 in the nation and fourth in the WCHA overall statistics and a 1.96 goals-against average, good for No. 19 in Div. I Mantha is in a current three-game starting streak... on Friday, the Seawolves lone goal was netted by senior D Austin Coldwell on the power play with assists going to Brett Cameron and Scott Allen... Coldwell went on to score on Saturday as well for his first career goal streak... failing to pick-up a point Friday was sophomore D Chase Van Allen, breaking his career- and team-high four game point streak... Van Allen collected an assist on Saturday and has now registered at least one point in five of the six games... meanwhile, Cameron and Allen also have netted one point in five games this season... scoring his second shorthanded goal of the season on Saturday was sophomore F Dylan Hubbs Hubbs leads the WCHA with two shorties and is tied with three others at No. 1 in Div. I... Van Allen also has two shorthanded assists and continues to lead the Seawolves with seven points on the season, good for a tie at No. 9 in points per game (1.17) for Div. I defensemen and No. 3 in point scoring for the overall WCHA list... Allen leads UAA with three goals. 2014-15 SEASON PREVIEW: Aiming for their ninth overall Kendall title, the Seawolves are coming off a historic campaign in 2013-14, with their 18-16-4 record accounting for the program s first winning season in 20 years... under new head coach Matt Thomas, UAA also qualified for the WCHA Final Five, establishing itself as a contender in the revamped WCHA... with the loss of leading scorers Matt Bailey and 2013 Kendall Classic Most Outstanding Player Jordan Kwas to graduation, the Seawolves will turn to the veteran trio of junior center Blake Tatchell (7-25 32) and senior wings Scott Allen (17-14

UAA and UAF will also host their annual non-conference tournaments in October... in addition to the Nanooks, the Seawolves will host Maine and Wisconsin on Oct. 10-11 for the Kendall Hockey Classic, before seeing Air Force and Penn State at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush on Oct. 17-18. 2013-14 SEASON RECAP: The Seawolves wrapped up the 2013-14 slate as one of the best in program history... with an 18-16-4 record, UAA earned its first winning season since 1992-93 and the program s first since joining the WCHA... the Seawolves also advanced to the WCHA Final Five for just the third time in program history after defeating Alaska Fairbanks 2-1 in a best-of-3 WCHA First Round playoff series...
