RHP Nate Pearson made his first start in a little less then a year for Dunedin and picked up the victory (5.0 inn, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 6SO) and combined to retire 16 consecutive Clearwater hitters with RHP Graham Spraker (3.0 Inn, 2H, 4 SO) registering the hold...the Blue Jays offense finally figured out Clearwater starter RHP Spencer Howard in the bottom of the fourth when Cal Stevenson ripped a homerun to right center starting the three run fourth inning rally. The Blue Jays batted around, sent 11 men to the plate and plated six runs in the 6th. Dunedin added two more runs in the bottom of the 7th on Riley Adams two run homerun to cap off a rally of 11 unanswered runs on the night. All Blue Jays hitters in the starting lineup registered at least one hit with Stevenson, Chavez Young, Christian Williams, Ryan Noda, Logan Warmoth, Adams, and Kevin Vicuna registering RBIs. GETTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: With the victory last night, Dunedin has now won seven of the last eight opening day games-the best stretch in the Florida State League in that span. Additionally, the Blue Jays have outscored the Threshers 45-18 in season openers since 2012. FAMILIAR FACES: Dunedin and Clearwater are squaring off for the second of 16 matchups in 2019; 13 of which are being played at Spectrum Field. The Blue Jays will host the Threshers for four official home games being played at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium (4/7, 5/9-11) in Clearwater. Dating back to the 2016 season, Dunedin has won the last three season series and hold a 34-24 record against the Threshers since the start of 2016. TEMPORARY HOME: With on going renovations to Dunedin Stadium, the Dunedin Blue Jays will call Jack Russell Memorial Stadium-former spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies-their home field for a total of 62 games in 2019. In Addition, Dunedin will play a total eight official home contests played at the opponents ballpark for the first time in team history. WINNING WAYS: The Jays open the 2019 campaign with a winning portfolio spread across 19 years: 218 wins since the start of 2016-3rd most in the Florida State League. 497 wins registered since the start of the 2012 season-3rd most in the Florida State League. POSTSEASON: Have made a trip to the FSL playoffs in seven of the last nine seasons and 14 of the last 19 years. OFFENSIVE PROWESS: The Blue Jays finished the 2018 regular season with the FSL S Top two hitters-rodrigo Orozco and Ivan Castillo- and look to continue their upward offense trend in 2019. Dunedin has scored 1888 runsgood for the the most in the league the last three seasons. Additionally, finished second in the league in 2018 in Batting Average (.268), Runs (617), Hits (1221), Doubles (235), Total Bases (1744), On-Base Percentage (.340), OPS (.722), and third in with 557 total RBI, BB (455), and Slugging % (.382). HAIL CESAR!: New Field Manager Cesar Martin takes over at the helm of the Dunedin Blue Jays organization. Martin led Class-A Lansing to an 80-60 record and a Wild Card birth in 2018. Martin played in the Blue Jays organziation from 2001-02 and has posted a.560 winning percentage, including two postseason appearances in his managerial career. PROSPECT PIPELINE: In addition to opening up the year with Baseball s number one prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Dunedin opens up the 2019 season with five of the top 30 Blue Jays prospects in the Toronto organization.
