BIXLER SETS SCORING RECORD A College of Saint Mary record that lasted for 35 years now belongs to Karyn Bixler. The 5-11 senior guard set the CSM basketball career scoring record Saturday in the Flame s 75-40 victory over Central Christian College in Omaha, Neb. Bixler, who needed 11 points to break the record, scored 14 on 4-for-8 shooting, lifting her career total to 1,345. Her basket from the low left block with 5:56 left in the first half broke the record of 1,341 set by Ann Heller, who played from 1974-1978. This record means a lot and shows that hard work pays off, said Bixler. I have an amazing support system and I couldn t have done this without my teammates, family, coaches and fans. Bixler currently ranks in the top ten in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference in scoring average (9th), points (5th), steals (2nd), rebounds (4th), blocks (2nd), and assists (4th). It wouldn t be that fulfilling for Karyn if we didn t get the win, CSM coach Chuck Brewer said, and we re all proud of her and we were excited that we could celebrate it at home in front of family, friends, and the CSM community. Next up for Bixler is the 1,500 career point plateau. The Flames have nine regular season games remaining this season, not including any post season contests. She needs to average 17.2 points to reach this mark. BIXLER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior guard Karyn Bixler of College of Saint Mary has been named MCAC Women s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20. Bixler (Omaha, Neb.) led the Flames to a 3-0 week, including a 70-65 upset of No. 3 College of the Ozarks, by averaging 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last week. Against Ozarks, she had 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Bixler also became CSM s career scoring leader during Saturday s win over Central Christian College. For the week, she was 15-of-25 from the field (60.0 percent). The Flames are now 15-6 this season.

FLAMES UPSET #3 OZARKS All streaks are meant to come to an end. Tonight at the Lied Fitness Center an estimated 534 fans saw College of Saint Mary defeat 3rd rated College of the Ozarks 70-65. The win improves College of Saint Mary to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Flames are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top 25 poll. College of the Ozarks drops to 16-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Trailing 63-53 with 3:45 remaining in the game, College of Saint Mary went on a 17-2 run to stun No. 3 College of the Ozarks. The Flames win snapped the Bobcats 24 game conference winning streak that dated back to February 2011. I m very happy for our players, said head coach Chuck Brewer. I m proud of the hard work our women put in tonight. Senior Jessica Zaruba had a team high 22 points for CSM. Zaruba also had eight assists and eight rebounds. Senior Karyn Bixler added 20 points and seven rebounds. Bixler finished 6 of 7 from the field and 8 of 12 from the free throw line. Tiffany Anzalone chipped in 12 points and blocked two shots. This is a great win for us, but we have another game on Saturday, Brewer cautiously added in reference to CSM s matchup with Central Christian College in less than 24 hours. You can t count out any team in this conference. We need to maintain our focus and carry momentum over from one game to another. After losing back-to-back games to start the conference portion of their schedule in January, the Flames have rattled off four straight wins. CSM will travel to Point Lookout, Missouri on Feb. 8 for a rematch of tonight s action.
