I hope everyone is as excited as I am to start the show season. The area clubs have blessed us with some great changes to our local shows with both a new date and a venue change! I hope we can help them have successful well attended shows! We as a club still have a lot of work left to do for our upcoming EMHC horse show in July and are in need of volunteers to help at the show along with helping get ready for the show. If you are only available one day or maybe a part of a day, that is just fine, we could still use your help. We are more than willing to train you on the different tasks as well if needed. Please contact Lisa, Brett or Judy with questions. Also DON T forget to renew your memberships if you haven t already don so as it s looking like we will have some amazing Highpoint and year end awards this year for our members thanks to a very helpful volunteer! Thank you. A Note from the President Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes like meaningful. Joshua J. COMBINED DRIVING Introduction to Combined Driving Clinic Saturday, April 23, 2016 Happy Trails Arena, Ethel, Washington Brought to you by Equestrians Institute Driving Division This clinic is for drivers and grooms/navigators who are already experienced and safe drivers but who would like to learn new skills or refresh their knowledge of the sport and art of Combined Driving. You may attend this clinic by yourself or you may bring your groom/navigator at no additional fee. In the afternoon hands-on portion of the clinic, you may drive your own safe carriage with your own well-trained driving horse, or you may ride along with an experienced CDE driver on his or her competition turnout. You will receive lesson materials, lecture by experienced CDE competitors, and handy guides for you to refer to when you go out on your own. We'll address such issues as: I've driven in the breed ring... woods... my local club... what are the differences for Combined Driving? I've heard of a CDE. What's a DT? ADT? Can my horse do it? Do I have appropriate equipment? Is Dressage really the basis of everything else? How do I figure my marathon times? What the heck is vet check? We cross bridges? Water? Really? Cones driving is easy... isn't it? Where to turn for more help... resources... events... Tentative schedule 8:00 to 12 noon -- Classroom lecture, discussion, questions and answers 12 noon to 1:00 -- Lunch provided. View kinds of carriages, harness, turnout 1:00 to 2:00 -- Discussion and preparation for a mock CDE 2:00 to 4:00 -- Drive a brief mock CDE with your own horse or ride along with an experienced turnout Registration will open on March 14 and close on April 9; earlier if full.
