We said goodbye to five members of the Board of Directors this spring, and while their reasons for stepping down were varied, we wish to thank each of them for their contributions to the OAHA throughout their terms and wish them well in their future endeavors. I would also like to thank those who attended our special member s meeting in London in March, especially those who stepped up to fill vacant positions on the Board of Directors and show committees. Your support and dedication has been paramount in the continuation and progress of the OAHA and I look forward to working with you throughout the year. For those members who were not in attendance at the February 5 th member s meeting, we do have some changes in store for 2012. It was decided by the membership that the OAHA would not be seeking show approval from the ApHCC for 2012, meaning that both the Middlesex Appaloosa Challenge and the Gold Rush Classic will only be offering ApHC classes. We will still offer open and youth all-breed classes, open to any horse or pony. Another change that came about at this meeting affects our yearend awards policy. Effective for 2012, members must show at all OAHA-sponsored shows in order to be eligible for year-end awards. Sponsored shows for 2012 include both the Middlesex Appaloosa Challenge and the Gold Rush Classic, although members can also accumulate (con t on next page)
2 (President s Message...continued from page 1) points towards year-end awards at the two co-pointed shows, the Kawartha Region Appaloosa Horse Club show in June, and at the North American Appaloosa Championships in Ancaster in August. In closing I would urge everyone to think about our Appaloosa horse and our association and try to move forward in 2012. With a total of four Appaloosa shows scheduled in Ontario, ranging from the London area to the Kawarthas (and a few in between), we hope to see some new and familiar faces at each exciting venue. Bring your favourite Apppaloosa out and support all four shows this year, or, if you can't show then consider helping out at one either by sponsoring a class or offering a hand. Let s show the world that our Appaloosa breed and our club are here for the future.
