5 Design & Innovation E Hull Design: Using computer aided drafting programs, we created hull shapes that were both stable yet fast in the water. Hydrostatic software calculated the stability and wetted surface area of the hull, where upon we could optimize our designs. 4 3 2 1 C D 3D Modeling: To design the cockpit we used a 3D drafted body and proportionally scaled it to the maximum and minimum size person that we were targeting for the particular model. Materials & Technology At Stellar we build advanced composite boats with premium materials imported from around the world and cutting edge aerospace processes. The combination of the decades of experience designing boats and laminates leads to some of the lightest, most durable and stiffest boats on the market! Materials Summary Carbon Fiber: The stiffest and lightest of fibers available, but also the most expensive to make. Woven Carbon Fiber: Very stiff and light weight with strands of fiber in at least 2 directions. Pre-preg Unidirectional Carbon: This is the most advanced technology, coming from Aerospace. All of the strands of carbon are lined up in one direction and infused with resin by a computer for accuracy. Woven Carbon Uni-directional Carbon Fiber Kevlar Kevlar (Aramid Fiber): Very stiff, very light and incredibly tough, but cheaper than carbon to make. Fiberglass: This is the most affordable of fibers used. Very durable, but not as stiff and light as Carbon or Kevlar fibers. Fiberglass Nomex Honeycomb Core: Another material from Aerospace, this material is very light and stiff. In a laminate, it creates a sandwich structure, which adds strength and stiffness without weight. Soric Core: Used as a network for resin to flow through during infusion of the boat. This material adds stiffness and toughness to the boat. Lamination Technology Summary We produce hand made advance composite boats, with technology learned from over 25yrs of experience, providing industry leading performance and quality. We offer four different laminates available for our range of Kayaks and Surf Skis. We recognize the demand for both high performance boats and affordable boats built to meet the rigors of the environment. Touring Kayak Construction Stellar Kayaks are designed to meet the rigors of the environment where it will be paddled. Double fiberglass taped deck joint ensures a durable bond for those rough days, while the large rubber hatches provide dry storage for your cargo. Each piece of hardware is fastened to the deck has a nut bonded and capped to the boat for a water-proof seal and durable connection. Ultra Construction (Touring Kayaks) Durable Carbon & Honeycomb laminate creating a stiff and lightweight boat with the highest performance that will slice through the chop. Clear paint finish. Excel Construction Uses very durable and tough Kevlar and Honeycomb laminate, creating a stiff and light boat similar in performance to the Ultra, yet more affordable. Tough gelcoat finish. 6 Advantage Construction A great combination of weight, stiffness, durability and price. Infused Fiberglass and Soric core-mat create a boat that is the workhorse of our fleet. Tough gelcoat finish. Sport Construction This solid fiberglass boat is the most durable laminate of our offering. Surf Ski Construction Stellar Surf Skis are designed to meet the rigors of the environment where it will be paddled. Every Surf Ski has a through running vertical stringer, fore and aft of the cockpit, to add stiffness to the boat when riding big waves or getting pounded in the surf. The contoured stern deck and curved transition to the bow deck add structural strength to prevent stress fractures and the fiberglass taped seam reinforces the deck joint. With 2 dry storage compartments, the S18S is not only a Surf Ski, but also a capable touring kayak. As a standard feature, the S18S is outfitted to accept a kick-up rudder for those who paddle in shallow areas. The hull has long water lines and a soft chine and we added a moderate concavity along the keel of the bow and stern to help with tracking in rough conditions. For windy days and following seas, a drop-down rudder off the stern will help keep your course. Higher decks allow for a dryer paddle in rough conditions and a large stern and medium bow compartment provide ample storage for your longer tours.
