The Redbirds look to snap a stretch of back-to-back home losses and get back to.500 at AutoZone Park this season with a win Friday night. Also in Thursday s game, Greg Garcia passed Keith McDonald and Skip Schumaker to move into seventh place on the Redbirds career hit list with 319 with a 3-for-4 showing. Today s game will be broadcast live on Sports 56 and 87.7 FM and internet webcast at MemphisRedbirds.com, with Steve Selby on the call. ON THE HILL: Arturo Reyes goes for his fourth-straight win in his seventh start of the season Friday night. Reyes started the season 0-2 after three starts, but he has won his last three outings and lowered his ERA from a high of 6.75 to its current mark of 4.15. In his last two starts, Reyes has worked 12.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs on 12 hits. In his two losses and no decision to start the season, Reyes held opponents to a.233 batting average while the Redbirds scored a total of two runs, and in his three wins opponents are hitting.275 against him but the Redbird offense has provided 23 runs. Memphis is slated to face Fresno right-hander Brad Peacock, who had six-straight no decisions to start the season and took a loss in his last outing. He spent time in the big leagues in every season since 2011, except for 2012, and he pitched against Memphis at AutoZone Park as a member of the Oklahoma City RedHawks on July 19, 2013, earning a win with 6.2 innings of work allowing one run on five hits and striking out 10 with no walks. THIS DATE IN REDBIRDS HISTORY: In 2006, down 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the 9th, Timo Perez hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run to give the Redbirds the win over Portland. HELLO, MIKE MAYERS: After all 34 Redbird starts were made by the same five starting pitchers, righthander Mike Mayers started and won against Sacramento on May 16. He went 5.1 innings and gave up just one run on five hits in a 5-1 Memphis win, and he struck out four. It was Mayers second-career start at Triple-A following the 2014 season finale for the Redbirds in New Orleans. The Ole Miss alum was a 2013 third-round draft pick by the Cardinals. He was transferred back to Springfield (AA) on May 20. LEFTY LITTRELL IS A REDBIRD: Left-hander Corey Littrell made his Triple-A debut with a scoreless ninth inning on May 14 against Sacramento after being transferred from Double-A Springfield earlier that day. KIEKHEFER GETS THE CALL: Left-hander Dean Kiekhefer was recalled by St. Louis on May 14 after making 11 appearances and pitching 13.1 innings with 12 hits and two runs allowed for the Redbirds to start the season. Lefties were hitting just.105 against him, and at the time of his call-up he was one of two relief pitchers in the PCL not to issue a walk. WASHINGTON, JENNER MAKE AN IMPACT: In just his third-career Triple-A game on May 8 at Nashville, David Washington hit a two-out, two-run home run, his first at the level, in the top of the ninth to tie the game at two. In the same game, Jesse Jenner made his first Triple-A appearance and was 1-for-3 in a start at catcher. The duo was transferred on May 5 after Mike Ohlman and Carlos Peguero went on the 7-Day Disabled List. TILSON HITS IN 10-STRAIGHT: Charlie Tilson had a 10-game hitting streak from April 20-May 4, the longest by a Redbird since Greg Garcia s 10-gamer from June 1-11, 2015. The Triple-A rookie hit.333 (14-42) during the streak, which was the secondlongest active streak in the league at the time it was snapped on May 4 against Omaha. PLEASED TO BE PLUNKED: Pinch-hitter Carlos Peguero was hit by an 0-2 pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth against Omaha on May 4 to give the Redbirds a 7-6 win. Memphis was up 6-1 before Omaha came back to tie it. EXTRA-BASE STRETCH: Memphis had at least one extra-base hit in the first 17 games of the season, until only having five singles in the series finale against Round Rock on April 26. Only Round Rock and Sacramento had equal streaks at the time Memphis ended. SATURDAY NIGHT SELLOUT: 10,171 fans packed AutoZone Park on April 23 for the first regularseason sellout since the renovations to the ballpark leading into the 2015 season. Those renovations included a state-of-the-art videoboard, LED ribbon board displays and additional premium seating and all-inclusive options for fans, in addition to a playing field replacement. GREG GARCIA BACK IN MEMPHIS: Infielder Greg Garcia joined the Redbirds on April 19 after being optioned by St. Louis. He played eight games in St. Louis to start the season, going 6-for-10 with six runs, a double and a home run, to go along with five walks. Garcia played 94 games in Memphis in 2015 while splitting time in the big leagues, hitting.294 with 19 doubles and two triples. Garcia is Memphis all-time leader in hit-by-pitches and is in the top-10 in eight other statistical categories (page 19). WALK-OFF WINNERS: Jonathan Rodriguez ended Memphis first home stretch in fine fashion on April 14, knocking home two runs with a two-out single to right field to give the Redbirds a 4-3 win over Oklahoma City. The Redbirds trailed 3-2 with nobody on and two outs in the ninth, and the final three hitters of the game, including Rodriguez, were down in the count 0-2 before reaching base. The Redbirds followed that up the next night with another last at-bat win, using six two-out RBI and seven runs in the last four innings to come back on three separate occasions to knock off Colorado Springs, 10-9. BACK-TO-BACK BOMBS: Carlos Peguero and Jonathan Rodriguez hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning of Memphis 8-1 win over Oklahoma City on April 13, which was the first instance of back-toback homers by Redbirds since Cody Stanley and Jeremy Hazelbaker on July 10, 2015. EVERYONE CONTRIBUTES: After having six hits in a 4-0 loss to Oklahoma City on April 11, every position player in the Memphis lineup had at least one base knock in April 12 s 4-2 loss to the Dodgers. STARTING PITCHER SUCCESS: Through one turn in the rotation, Deck McGuire, J.C. Sulbaran, Jeremy Hefner, Thomas Lee and Arturo Reyes combined for a 2.51 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks in 25.1 innings of work. The quintet helped Memphis post the Pacific Coast League s fifth-best team ERA through five games (2.60). LIGHTS-OUT BULLPEN: The Memphis bullpen went 13.1 innings without allowing an earned run from the sixth inning on April 8 through one out in the seventh inning on April 11. All seven relievers who appeared during the stretch tossed at least one scoreless inning, with only Sam Tuivailala not appearing while the streak was ongoing. JEREMY HEFNER RETURNS: In his first appearance since August 6, 2014, after a second Tommy John surgery required him to miss the 2015 season, Jeremy Hefner allowed just one hit in 5.0 innings of work for his first outing of at least five innings and only one hit in his last 88 starts. JONATHAN RODRIGUEZ DEBUTS: In his Triple-A debut on April 7, Jonathan Rodriguez smashed a threerun home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Redbirds a 6-1 lead. Rodriguez played 124 games in Springfield (AA) in 2015. OFFSEASON OWNERSHIP CHANGE: This spring, principal ownership of the Memphis Redbirds changed from the St. Louis Cardinals to Peter B. Freund. Freund is President of Trinity Packaging Corporation and Trinity Baseball Holdings. Trinity Baseball Holdings also owns the Charleston River- Dogs and the Williamsport Crosscutters. The Cardinals remain a minority owner in the Redbirds. As part of the move, third-year Redbirds General Manager Craig Unger was promoted to President and General Manager.
