GOVERNOR S MESSAGE: SMOKING RESTRICTION VOTE On February 2 we held our Town Hall meeting to discuss whether Dale City Moose Lodge should restrict smoking in the lodge. It was a very good open discussion with a number of individuals attending the meeting. For those who were not able to attend, the meeting centered on whether we should restrict smoking to designated areas in the new Lodge, ban smoking completely, or continue to allow smoking as we do today. Information was shared regarding a Moose International vote to take place in July where they are putting forward a proposal to ban smoking in all Moose Lodges. Moose International feels very confident that it will be passed. Even if it does not pass, they have said they will bring it up for vote every year until it does pass. The urgency in making this decision for our Lodge is related to the finalization of the new building plans and whether we design into the building and incur the cost of a whole building ventilation system that could become obsolete after the vote in July. Based on the discussion during the Town Hall meeting and pending changes coming from Moose International we will hold a Special Meeting and vote on March 30, 2019. Voting will be done by ballot and you must show a current Moose Member card to cast a vote. The motion that will be voted on will be: restrict all cigarette, e- cigarette, and vaping at Dale City Moose Lodge 2165 to designated smoking areas and outside. ELECTIONS Reminder that the elections for the Dale City Moose Lodge Board will be held April 11 for the men. I would encourage you to come out and vote. I would also encourage you to consider running for one of the positions. Applications for positions will be behind the bar. They will be available from March 1 to March 30. All positions are open except for the 1-year and 2-year Trustee. If you want to find out information about a position talk to the current board members or past board members. Installation of officers will take place on April 14. VOLUNTEERS We have a little over 1000 members (men and women) at our Moose Lodge. Volunteers are critical. When you come to the lodge, remember to clear your table when you leave. Ask the bartender if they need to coolers behind the bar restocked, see if they need ice. We always need people to take the trash out. Giving 10-15 minutes of your time will go a long way in supporting the Moose. We always need people to help cook steaks, tacos, wings, seafood, cooks on the grill for special events. 2 hours once a month will again be a huge help in supporting YOUR lodge. We also need people on the entertainment committee, birthday committee, bingo, and special Moose Lodge events. See Larry, Terri or any of the bartenders and they will give you the information you need BREAKFAST The Dale City Moose Legion breakfast buffet and omelet bar is on the first Saturday of every month. I can guarantee you that you won t find a better deal anyone in town. For $10 you get all you eat, and drink. This has been very successful and great fund raiser for the Moose Legion. There has been the same small group doing this every month and we are asking for volunteers, men or women, to keep this going, you do not need to be in the Moose Legion. If you can t cook it does not matter. All you need to do is show up and there will be something you can do. If you can spare 4 hours on the first Saturday of the month, please let Bill Baker know. Don t let this great monthly event end because we could not find volunteers out of over 1000 members. Remember this is your lodge, give back with some of your time! MEMBER RETENTION Our fiscal year at the Lodge will be coming to an end on April 30. We have done a fantastic job in signing up new members. In fact, we have been great at doing that for so many years. However, membership retention is our issue and appears to be a problem across all of Moose. I am asking that you reach out and talk to those brothers and sisters that you signed up initially to make sure they remain Moose members and pay their dues. Over the last year we have made the Lodge the place to be: new and more bands, sporting events, trips, and family events planned for engaging and entertaining our members. Invite them back and show them what we are doing and what we are going to be doing. If each on you would make one call and talk to the person you sponsored and get them to renew, we would fill up the new Lodge. Let s push hard during the last few months of this fiscal year and make membership retention a priority for all of US. Jerry Black, Governor 2018-2019 LOOM OFFICERS Governor...
